ROSE POLY INDIAN EYE TOO MUCH FOR
t. CLOSES BATTLE The basketball scrap 'with Wabash on Feb. 20, Is the only straw left for Cocah Mowe's basketballers to grasp either first or second place in the I. C. A. L. A win over the Scarlet team by a larger majority than Wabash defeated Earlham. will give the Quakers ground upon which to base claims for I. C. A. L. honors. Rose Poly has the Bign of the Turfc. upon the Earlham team. The 30 to 28 defeat accorded Earlham at Terre Haute Saturday night was entirely unexpected. As usual, Earlham outplayed, out-passed but could not out-score the Engineers. The first half ended with Earlham on the long end of an 18 to 12 score and the handful of Earlham rooters imagined they were "settin pretty." However, Standau, Rhinehart and Conover began a long range bombardment of the Quaker goal In the final half that quickly overhauled this lead Lawler did-his best to bring home the bacon. Five field and four free
shots were marked to his credit. Hall and Carey came In for four and three
goals each. Standau with five field
shots, and Rhinehart and Conover with three each, led the scoring for
the Engineer squad. RANAniTNTWF
INTEREST IN RAGE
It Is said that a good deal of interest has been aroused among Canadian -"yachtsmen by the coming contest for the American cup, between Sir Thomas Llpton's challenger, and the defending sloop chosen by the New York Yacht club. The yachtsmen of the Great Lakes are keeping a weather I eye on the cup race developments. There are many smart yachts and fkilful sailors on the lakes. The sport languished during the war but next season it is due for abig comeback. Should Sir Thomas Lipton fail in his
coming effort to lift the great yachting emblem it would not be surprising to learn that the Canadians would be
the next in line with a challenge.
Cup race developments and conditions favor this. The reduction in waterline length and the change in the head rig both would seem to
bring the cup yacht nearer to Cana
dian conceptions of such a craft. Also there is the sporting spirit and plenty of money in Canada for such a
venture.
Last season two clubs in the Virginia league were managed by men who only a few years ago were stars in the American league. They were Chief Bender and Rube Oldring. Next season Gabby Street, the former star
catcher of the "Washington Senators and who was for years one of the leading backstops In the big show, will be the only former major leaguer piloting a club in the organization. He recently signed to manage the Suffolk club. Street succeeds Oldi'ing. , The acquisition of Babe Ruth evidently is popular, with some of the New York Yankees, for many of the
men hail the coming of the "Bos-

tory in the 1920 league race. Duffy
Lewis, crack left fielder of the Yankees, in a letter to a friend, has said that there will be nothing to the coming race but New York, substantiating his belief by several good reasons. The report has been circulated that Lewfs is a holdout and is trying to put on the screws for more money. This is not true. Lewis notified the lub that he believed he was entitled to a certain salary, and that he did not care to sign the contract which ihey sent to him. There is nothing but" the most friendly feeling toward the club on the part of Lewis, but he knows his worth and has set forth his itropopition in courteous, but firm and
business-like fashion. In fairness to Lewis, it may be said that his demands are not so great as to impose a financial hardship upon the club. Tommy Griffith has returned his contract to the Brooklyn culb, but did not send any note about more money. According to the warbling outfielder, the contract sent him called for a good advance over his 1919 salary, but he Is determined to stay in retirement.
PURDUE AT TOP OF BASKET HEAP
After the smoke of the week-end basketball games has cleared away, basketball fans find Purdue at the top of the heap. The 36 to 19 defeat handed Wabash, came as a surprise to basketball followers. As Purdue defeated DePauw by only a one-point margin, the race for state honors Is between these teams. Indiana and Wabash are eliminated by virtue of defeats at the hands of Purdue. Earlham was counted upon as a contender at the start of the season but subsequent defeats have put the Quakers out of the running for I. C. A. L. honors. Indiana was expected to defeat Northwestern Friday night and the 32 to 11 victory was no surprise. Northwestern will not cut much of a figure in Big Ten circles, while Indiana is touted highly. Another week-end surprise was the 33 to 22 victory registered by the State Normal five over the Dentals. Pope favored the "teeth-pullers" as Butler and Franklin defeated the Teachers by large scores. Notre Dame lost another game Saturday night, Marquette carrying off the long end of a 23 to 22 score. It seems as though the Irish are reserving their prowess for the gridiron.
R. H. S. TUNEING UP FOR SPICELAND FIVE
Practice for the Spiceland game at Spiceland Friday night, will be started by the R. H. S. basketball squad in the coliseum Tuesday afternoon. Spiceland badly walloped Richmond ia th opening game of the season for the Red and White and this week's practice will have a special incentive. Despite the trimming administered Ly Technical last Friday night, R. H. S. rooters are in an optimistic state of mind. Technical is rated as one
of the strongest high school teams, in
Indiana and Richmond s performance
of holding the upper side of the score
for 30 minutes or play, is creditable.
Fans believe that had Dollins not left the game, the final score would
have been much smaller. His absence broke the air-tight defense of
fhe locals. They hope Richmond will be return
ed winner over Spiceland, as Spice
land has not improved in team play,
With the exception of the Newcastle
game, Richmond has shown consider
able improvement in each scrap. Dope
favors Richmond, as Muncie defeated
Spiceland by a comfortable majority
and Richmond defeated Muncie.
Both the first and seconds will go through a stiff workout in the coliseum Tuesday afternoon, to erase ?muscle kinks."

of the country, including the present

Suburban League Plans Wait on Central League Plans for a suburban baseball league for next summer, were halted at a meeting of managers in George Brehm's store Sunday afternoon. These managers believe it would be impossible to have successful Sunday ball with Richmond having Class B league ball. For this reason, plans were halted. Representatives from the following teams were present at Sunday's meeting: New Madison, Eldorado, AllStars. Whitewater, Richmond Senators, Boton, Lynn, Centerville, Hagerstown and Eaton. Final action upon the league will be taken at a meeting on February 22.

Whitewater Runs Up Big Score on Cambridge City
Whitewater sprang the unexpected Saturday night and defeated Cambridge City high school basketball five, 49 to 25, at Whitewater. Encouraged by recent victories, Cambridge City rooters were confident of a win. Whitewater has been going at a steady clip, although not having an opportunity to meet the same classy teams as Cambridge. - The first half was featured by close guarding of both teams, which ended with the Whitewater team leading 14 to 10. The Cambridge City defense weakened in the final half and the home team quickly ran up a commanding lead. Grey featured for the winning combination, while Chase performed best for the losers.

BETTER THAN CALOMEL Thousands Have Discovered Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets are a Harmless Substitute Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets the substitute for calomel are a mild but sure laxative, and their effect on the liver is almost instantaneous. These little olivecolored tablets are the result of Dr. Edwards determination not to treat liver and bowel complaints with calomel. The pleasant little tablets do the good that calomel does, but have no bad after effects. They don't injure the teeth like strong liquids or calomel. They take hold of the trouble and quickly correct it. Why cure the liver at the expense of the teeth? Calomel sometimes plays havoc with the gums. So do strong liquids. It is best not to take calomel. Let Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets takers place. Headaches, dullness" and that lazy feeling come from constipation and a disordered liver. Take Dr. Edwards Olive Tablets when you feel "logy"and "heavy." They "clear" clouded brain and "perk up" the spirits. 10c and 25c
