BLOOD IN, EYES OF r EARLHAM, BUTLER, FOR SCRAP TONIGHT
. Overconfidence will not prevail when the opening whistle Is sounded for the Earlham-Butler basketball scrap In the coliseum tonight. The . squad realizes this ailinent was partly responsible for the surprise sprung by Rose Poly. The team may start the game minus three regulars, as Johnson, Lawler and Hall are stfll "under the weather" from the 'manhandling received from Wabash last week, and heavy colds contracted this week. Davis, weighing around 180 pounds, can step in at backguard, in case Captain Johnson is out of the scrap. Robinson and Goar make a high class pair of forwards and would fit snugly in the breach made by the absence of Hall and Lawler. Herb Carey and Cy Pitts are in tip-top shape, although Edwards . and Raiford could relieve thi3 pair and still cause Coach Mowe to have a formidable line-up. Coach John Head is bringing his squad of eight Butler basket tossers to avenge previous defeats by Earlham. Butler was swamped under the Quaker attack on two occasions last season, and the treatment still rankleB. Butler Hopes to Win. Backers of the Indianapolis school are confident their team will either trim the Quakers or else hold them to a small score. The Butler team is composed of letter men, under the leadership of a crafty and experienced mentor He has not been working with the team all season, yet one week after he took over the reins, Rutler caused Rose Poly to go five minutes overtime before the Engineers could 0 " win The next week Butler defeated state Normal Now all the energies of the coach and team are centered upon Coach Mowe's squad. Earlham rooters are expecting the , Christians to put up a stiff argument in tonight's scrap as Butler always shows the best form of the season when, pitted against Earlham. This was proven in the football contest last fall. No curtain raiser will be played as Butler has to make train connections. This means that play will be started promptly at 7:30. Bacon, who refereed the last home game of the Earlham clan, will be on the job for the Butler game. FANS WANT LEAGUE BALL; PEP NEEDED Baseball fans are evidencing a cooperative spirit to save the valuable plant of the Richmond Exhibition company, which Is doomed to be dismantled unless the directors receive the fcupport of the city. The directors have been urged by many persons interested in sports to make every possible effort to maintain the company and to obtain league ball for Richmond this season. Elsewhere in this Issue will be found a detailed statement of the financial aspects of the situation and a presentation of what will be required to meet the emergency. Fans evidently want league ball in 1920. The wish can be gratified if : the supporters of the sport rally to 4 the aid of the dir-e"i-s of the Richjnond Exhibition company. They have preserved the park for ball purposes since the season of 1917. They can not be expected to go ahead with the project unless support of a tangible kind is forthcoming.
Bowling Notes
Last night's bowling at Twigg's alleys was according to "dope," as the A. S. M. team was picked to win two out of three games from the Wilson Cleaner aggregation, while Hill's Laddies were counted upon to trim the fast slipping Kaysee team. Wilson's Cleaners rolled three better games than the Seeders, but the greater handicap of the latter offset the better scores of the former. The same condition held true in the Kay-see-Laddie title. High score and high average for the evening were awarded "Big Boy" Evans, who topped 223 pins for high score and a general average of 198. The above games marked the close of the third section of the City league schedule. The final section will start next Tuesday night, but with six teams of the league having increased handicaps, Feltman's Tramps and the "Cokes" being the only exceptions to the rule. Following la a detailed account of last night's performance: Wilson's Cleaners. (Handicap, 146 pins.)

The Shamrocks were formerly the Marines but have been playing under
the Shamrock title this season. The Panhandles are a new team in the field, but they have met the strongest fives in this vicinity. The Shamrocks have used practically the same line-up for three years, starting out when the members of the squad were in high school. The Panhandles include ' "Chick" Graffis, former high school star, and "Bill" Williams, also a former high school player. The Shamrocks will start next Wednesday's game with George Cannon and Carl Runnels at forward, Don Cutler at the pivot position, and Harold Runnels and Gaylor
in the guard positions. Brehm, Dillon, Faye and Aiken are other members.

H. S. WITH HOPES HIGH, AT NEWCASTLE The Richmond high school basket
ball squad, accompanied by Coach Fries and Manager Vernon, ' were to leave for Newcastle on the 3:50 p. m. train, Friday. A large delegation of
rooters accompanied the team and a number of automobile parties will make the trip. Coach Fries excused the squad from practicing Thursday afternoon, as the effects of the continuous workouts are beginning to tell. Prospects for a victory over the Rose City team are bright. Although critics agree Richmond could wallop Cambridge City, and though the latter team trimmed Rushville, beat New Castle, the "dope bucket" has a habit of upsetting this season. Light on Tournament Tonight's game will shed light as to probable winner of the district tourney at Newcastle the first part of March. If Richmond wins from the representatives of the reen and White, then they will have the edge as Newcastle has beaten Spiceland.- considered one of the strongest contenders, twice. Coach Fries announced just before leaving, that Dollins at center, Loehr and Reed forwards, and Wilson and Price, would compose Richmond lineup at the start of the game. Monger will be held in readiness, as he is considered a member of the Varsity. In addition, Motley and Harkins were taken as substitutes.
The Economy Independent basketball team won a hard fought game from the Spartansburg Independents, at Spartansburg, Wednesday evening, 19 to 13. The game resembled football at times, but Economy won out solely by superior team work. Fleming and Clements led .the scoring for the winners, each garnering three field goals. The Economy
five will meet the Hagerstown Independents, at Hagerstown, Saturday night.
H. S. GAMES AT OXFORD. OXFORD, Ohio, Jan. 23 Tho McGuffey high school basket ball teams first and second will this evening play the first and second teams of the Camden high school. The games will be played in Miami university gymnasium. The Oxford high school boys will, at the same time, play the College Corner high sch?ol team, in the town hall.
Oscar Mathleton. Oscar Mathieson, great Norwegian skater, ha3 tried twice to dethrone
Bobby McLean, American speed king
and world s champion skater. Each time he failed. And now In a few
days, Oscar will get another chance.
McLean has sailed for Norway to
meet Mathieson in a series of six races there. Mathieson had beaten everyone in Norway and nearby European countries could produce in the skating game for several years previous to 1916 and fairly raced himself out of competition in Europe. McLean had been setting the Ice world on fire on this side of the Atlantic In the meantime and Mathieson challenged, the U. S. star for the world's title. McLean accepted and the men were signed for a series of 12 races. Six of the races were staged at Chicago and eix in St. Paul. And, sweet patoodie. McLean won 11 of the 12 races and lost the other because of an accident. One of the course flags became loose and fell on the ice. McLean tripped over this and fell. Last winter Mathieson came to America again in an attempt to beat McLean and Bobby bested him in the
j four races in which they met. Mathieson, on both trips, staed that the I Emaller rinks here handicapped him i and that he could not hit his best
j speed. The appearance of McLean on
the larger Norwegian courses will prove the mprit of Mathieson's statement. That Mathieson is a wonderful skater is admitted. But "American skating experts are banking on McLean to return with his crown untarnished.

SETTLE TITLE HERE
Next Monday's 10 round bout be-, tween Joe Walters, of Conner svill. and Yank Druley, of Centervllle, will settle the welterweight championship of Indiana, claimed by both scrappers . Walters is a trifle too heavy for a welterweight, however, but still is too light for a middleweight. For this reason he trains hard to get rid of superfluous weight Jimmie Dalton, who is to oppose Frankle Nessler in the last bout of the evening, arrived in Richmond Thursday and went through a stiff workout for the enjoyment of a large number of Richmond fight fans who gathered in Billy Benson's gymnasium
on Main street Nessler Is being picked to have the better of Monday's tilt but onlookers of Dalton's workout differ. . All proceeds, above expenses, of Monday's tourney, will be given to the Richmond Exhibition company as a starter towards the liquidation of the $3,500 dollar debt of the company. Local fans are strong for the prospect of league ball In Richmond next sum-

GOAL COMPANY FOREMAN TELLS ABOUT TROUBLE
"No, sir, I wasn't much surprised when I got on the scales the other day and found that I had gained twentytwo pounds in weight, for I have been eating like a wolf and picking up rapidly ever since I finished my first bottle of Tanlac less than two months ago." The above statement was made by George Colton, of 1114 East 21st St, Kansas City, Mo., while discussing the merits of the medicine, recently. Mr. Colton has been foreman for one of the large coal companies in Kansas City for a great many years, and is highly respected by all who know him. .'My wife and I both tested Tanlac." he continued, "and it has helped us so much that we want everybody to know about It. As for my own case, my kidneys had been bothering me for seven years or more .and there were such fearful pains in the small of my back at times that I could not get up or down without help. My kidneys disturbed me bo often at night that I could get very little sleep and I was In such a badly run down condition that I was forced to stay away from my work for days at a time. My appetite was very poor and my stomach so upset that I could not eat anything but wiat would sour and cause the worst kind of pains in the pit of my stomach. I lost a great deal in weight, often had dizzy spells, and was seldom free from headache. "Well, nothing ever helped me until after I got Tanlac and goodness only knows how much money I have paid out trying to get relief. I have heard a great .deal about Tanlac but
never, thought much about it being
wnat I needed until my wire took it up with such wonderful results. She
had been suffering for a long time from very much the same kind of troubles, and after seeing how the medicine was building her up, I began taking it myself. She was in such a bad condition that none of the neighbors thought she would get well and the had lost nearly all hope herself. But in just a few weeks after she began taking Tanlac she was feeling like a new woman, and has gained ten pounds in weight Well, the way Tanlac has helped me is Just as remarkable as the way it helped my wife. By the time my first bottle was gone, I was feeling like a different man. I am a well man now, and I mean to say by that, that I haven't a pain of any kind, My kidneys never bother me any more and my appetite couldn't be better. I never miss a day from my work now and there's nothing too good for my wife and myself to say for Tanlac. Anyone wishing to do so may either write or call on us and we will gladly tell them our experience with what we consider the grandest medicine on earth." Tanlac is sold in Richmond by Clem Thistlethwaite; n Greensfork by C. D. Corine; in Cambridge City by Mr. Dean Hquse; in Pershing by Sourbeer & Rodenberg; in Centerville by Centervllle Pharmacy, and In Milton by W. L. Parkins. Adv.
