WASHINGTON. Motion picture devotees are coming to learn that dogs are wonderful motion picture actors. Some of the most effective bits of play in many of the screen's biggest productions have been done by canine players, in fact a photodrama has Just been completed at Universal City under the direction of Norman Dawn in which dogs are the only actors. One of the most touching scenes in "The Right to Happiness," the latest big starring vehicle for Dorothy Phillips, which is now showing at the Washington Theatre by a big Russian wolf-hound, a handsome intelligent fellow, too, by the way. The incident occurs early in the picture where the palatial home of an

American millionaire in Russia has been set afire by Russian Cossacks during a pogrom against the Jewish element, fn the house are two little girls. The nurse hides one of the babes in a big box and the other in a huge oven. The dog remains in the house until the fire has gained much headway, trying to rescue his little playmate, whom he knows has been concealed in the oven. Every movement of the dog in hie successful attempt to open the- ponderous door is plainly shown on the screen. After opening the door the dog leads the child through the blazing rooms to safety. Allen Holubar, the creator of "The Right to Happiness," also employed an appealing dog incident in "The Heart of Humanity," when a Red Cross dog files at the throat of a German soldier and kills him. MURRAY. Thomas H. Ince's new production, released as a Paramount-Artcraft picture, "Behind the Door," scored a great hit at the Murray theatre yes

terday. It is an admirable photoplay starring Hobart Bosworth, a vigorous actor, supported by such players as Jane Novak, Oto Hoffman, Wallace. Beery and J. P. Lockney. The story is admirably presented, there being a thrill in every scene. RICHMOND. One of the most fascinating comedies of young love ever 6hown will open an engagement at the Richmond theatre Wednesday, with Albert Ray and Elinor Fair as tho stars. This is "The Lost Princess," a-Fox photoplay based on the flight from her troubled kingdom in Europe of a young princess, who Incognito works for her living on a big American newspaper where she finds that the love and protecting arm of a red-blooded young American are better than all she left behind in Europe. Sprightly young Ray and pretty Miss Fair made the best possible use of this uncommon and unusually good Btory, capturing the lively sympathy of the audience at tho very beginning and holding it. PALACE. "The Shuttle," Constance Talmaoge's current Select Star Series release, haB been adapted by Margaret Turnbull and Harvey Thew from the

novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett, whose popularity brought the book through ten editions. This picture, directed by Rollin Sturgeon, gives Miss Talmadge as Bettina Vanderpoel a role admirably suited for portrayal of high-spirited, lovable, truly-American girls. With "The Shuttle", the last of the famous Tiger Trail stories and a good comedy is being shown at the Palace theater. MURRAY. Should you visit The Murray this first half, pay particular attention to the comedian of the colored team of Williams and Taylor, and you will be reminded of Bert Williams, the famous comedian of "The Follies." This artist looks like Williams; sings a song like him, and talks like him, but he goes farther, and does a dance that Williams never did in his Irfe, or ever will do. His partner doing "straight". Is equally as clever, and between the two they scored the biggest hit last evening, we feel safe in saying, ever

rung up by a vaudeville team in Richmond. Their comedy is clean and good, and their closing dance sent them away with the hit honors. If you relish the wail of the clarinet, the se

ductive tones of the saxaphone, the banjo, violin and trombone with a pretty girl singing the latest songs, do not fail to see Dot Marsell and her "Blue Grass Four." Miss Marsell's gowns alone (the society editor says they are creations) are joys to behold for tho feminine heart, while even a man must realize the Indenture in somebody's pocketbook. Anyway, the act is full of class and ability, and you never saw a better act in any of the Keith houses. The male member of Fredicks & Palmer must have won himself a French bride when he was "over there," for her accent and mannerisms bespeak very much the nativity of our ally. We do not blame him, for she is very prety and clever, and with her talented husband, form a combination of which vaudeville will gladly welcome. They add not a little to making this bill one of the best of the season. This show should play

all week, and if you care for good vaudeville, see this bill.
