; ; WHEN SEASON GOMES

GRAND RAPIDS,- Mich., Dec 24. The Central and Three-I leagues ."will

work together -when the time comes for

their respective - territories to be redlstrlcted, announced E. .W. Diekerson, J (resident of the prospective Central eajrue, after a conference Monday

with A. R. Tearney of Chicago, presWent of the Western and Three-I

leagues.

It Is Tearney's desire to Increase the Three-I ; league to -Include eight clubs next season, and the ,two new clubs which be wanted to Include In the circuit . may be . members of the new Central league. If the Michigan

cities are dropped from the MichiganOntario league..' " '.

It Is almost certain that Saginaw,

Flint, Battle Creek and Bay City will

not be represented m the M..-o. league next season, and that being; the case.

Dlckerson will try to land them for

the Central.

It Is believed the cities Tearney

wants for the Three-I league are Fort Wayne and Richmond. If the Central Is forced to take In teams outside the state, which is contrary to the wishes of President Morrissey of the Grand

Rapids club. Fort Wayne and men xaond probably will be admitted. Wants No Outsiders.

"I do not see why the league should

go outside the state for cities when it

has just as good ones right here in the state," said Morrissey. "Saginaw, Bay City, Flint, Jackson and Kalamazoo ' are, in my opinion.

Inst as coed baseball towns as wheel

inr. Springfield, Terre Haute, Rich

mond. Brie. Canton and other cities In

other states several hundred miles wav. I would rather spend my money

In classier baseball than in traveling expenses. The Central league played to good crowds for years "and few of the clubs broke even, for the reason that the traveling expenses were so

great that they ate up the receipts. "Flint Is almost as large as Grand Rapids. Bay City. Saginaw. Jackson and Kalamazoo are all better towns

from the standpoint of business pros

perity than any. of those In other states which have applied for franchises" in tae reorranized Central. I do not be

lieve that the people are so blind as

to not take kindly to an all-Mlhcigan circuit, simply hecause it does not cover a wider territory, once we show nm that we are rivlnr them as good

or better baseball than ever presented here before by the. Central league. "My Plan is to give Grand Rapids the verv best team that a highly ca

pable manager can sign up at salary figures higher than any salary limit ever observed by the Central In the

part. When we can save f l.ooo

month in traveling expenses we can give the people a third better baseball came than the old Central league

played."

J Gatherings From the eWorld of Sport

Connie Mack has already broken a

vow that he made .during the American league meeting Then the leader

of the anaemic White Elephants swore a solemn oath that he would not trade

or sell . the worst ball player on his

team. However. . Connie walked right Into the - mart of trade and acquired Lyle Bigbee from Clyde Wared of the

Seattle club and slipped them Merlin

Kopp, .Bobbie Geary, a right handed pitcher, and Ray Bates, who at present is more or less on the payroll of the Los Angeles club of the Pacific Coast league. .

Both sides are well satisfied with

the trade. Bigbee, -with proper handling should develop into a good pitcher, and it ia believed that the fatherly advice that. Connie Mack gives his

ball players will have a good effect on Lyle. One of the troubles with Bigbee last year was the inability of BUI Clymer to show the proper amount of. patience with the big spitballist.

Bigbee is credited with having as good

a spitball as there was in the Pacific

Coast league, and until he and Clymer had their famous "run in" be waB one of the leading slab lights of the league on a steadily losing ball club.

When Lyle returned to the club he

had been out of. training for two or

three weeks, and a pitcher of bis

caliber has to be worked regularly or

he loses bis effectiveness. Connie Mack has heard enough of Bigbee's ability to desire to take a chance on the right hander, and the fact that he was ready to trade two experienced ball players and a good prospect as a pitcher for the Seattle hurler shows that he probably has had some advance information on the boy.

According to Manager Ware's Idea

now there is another youngster named Jack, who la just beginning his fistic

career. Still another brother is the press agent of the family. He declares that Jack has the footwork of Abe. the punch of Monte and the

brains of Caesar. Caesar Attell certainly was smart enough to know when to quit, but It looks as though Abe's young brother- Is rather, slighting him In giving Caesar credit for having the brains of the family. By the time the Olympic games approach it, is not known how many sprinters capable of doing "even time" for the hundred yards or hundred meters will have developed. A new aspirant to a place among the foremost of flyers is an Australian, R. R. Burguez, a newcomer at sprinting. At the Queensland track and field championshpis Burguez did the hundred yards in 9 9-10 seconds and won with such ease that old time athletes predict he will be the next man to be chronicled in 9 3-5 seconds. Burguez is a tall fellow, with wonderful stride and like lightning off his mark. As the Australians have already begun to prepare a team for the Olympic games, they are overjoyed at the sudden appearance of so good a sprinter.

Strong opposition of this kind will be the best form of practice that can be had. It is toward the tournament next March that the R. H. until recently secretary of the New

York Giants? That s what Madame Rumor says, says she. Foster has been connected with baseball many years. He was named secretary of the New York National league club in 1912,. following the death of John T. Brush. Foster was well known as a baseball writer at that time, and went .into the executive end of the sport with a clear idea of what the ' public demands of the men running the sport. He was editor' of Spalding's record book at the time and still holds that position.. Foster is known to the college grid fans in the cast also, having handled the big games ctaged at the Polo grounds. Foster's friendship with the former president, Harry Hempstead, is said to be the reason for the board of directors letting Foster out. Mrs. Hempstead, daughter of John T. Brush, inherited stock from her father and refused to sell it to George A. Stoneham, John McGraw and Judge McQuade, when they purchased the other stock of the club. The board probably decided they did not want a secretary friendly to the minority interests, although Foster's ability to handle the club's affairs was not questioned.

The Ounce of Prevention It i the "ounce of prevention which today inspires medical science in its fight for the race. Vaccines, sanitation, health departments, all carry forward the good work of Sickness Prevention. Science has now developed an agent that effectively meets the condition which is the originating point of over 909b of all sicknessconstipation. That effective ageai is Nujol. The dangers of constipation are so widespread because through self-poisoning it reduces the body's power of resistance. Nujol by relieving constipation prevents the absorption of poisons which otherwise would be taken into the blood and undermine the whole system. Leading medical authorities agree that pills, salts, castor oil, etc., simply fore and weaken the system. But Nujol is different. Nujol softens the food waste and ' encourages the intestinal muscles to act natutally. Nujol helps Nature establish easy, thorough bowel evacuation at regular intervals the healthiest habit in the world. Get a bottle from your druggist today.
