(3PICELAND PLAYS 1 NEWCASTLE; OTHER GAMES INTERESTING

v Basketball Friday Night. Spleeland at Newcastle. C Liberty at Rushville. , U Whitewater at Cambridge City. , s Fountain City at Mooreland. n Hagerstown at Mtddletown. t , Verona at New. Paris. ""' 'Centervllle at NeV Lisbon. -". The largest crowd that -ever wit- , nessed a basketball game In Newcas- . tie Is expected at the Newcastle game - against Spleeland, Friday evening. ' The teams are contenders for the Newcastle district honors and the game-will furnish a basis for picking r the winner of next spring's tourney. . , Both Newcastle and Spleeland have , been traveling at a giddy pace. Spiceland having defeated Richmond by 82 to 9, and Newcastle defeated New ' Hartford. The latter team has been doped as one of the strongest in the state by vlrture ol its victory over Shelbyvllle and Shortridge high, of 'Indianapolis. Richmond sympathies are with the Newcastle aggregation, - for local rooters believe Newcastle t will not be able to trample on the Red : and White. Liberty and Rushville also will have

the record Rushville crowd of the year ' when the two teams clash at - Rushville. Friday evening. Samuels, the l giant Liberty center, has returned to

school, and Liberty stock has jumped '" upward. Rushville formerly produced one of the best teams In this vicinity but for the past two seasons has not done much. However, this year the team

has been winning most of its 'games,

and is expected to make Liberty step

-lively.

Whitewater Hopes to Win. Although Cambridge City has the

lightest team 4n this district. Whiter water is not at all confident of ant nexlng the scrap that is to be played at Cambridge City Friday evening. The team play of Cambridge City has caused it to be a fit opponent for the best teams in the district This was proved at the Brookville game, for until 3 of the best players left the game on account of injuries. Brookville was on the short end of the score. Whitewater has one of the best teams in this vicinity, and Friday's game ought to be a rip-roarer from start to finish. All of the Camabridge players have recovered from injuries received in the Brookville game. Fountain City expects little trouble against Mooreland Friday evening. The Hagerstown seconds defeated Mooreland and the Fountain City coach says that his team will also start its second team. Little is known about the strength of the Mlddletown quintet, with, whom Hagerstown Is booked Friday evening. The game is to be played at Middletown and Hagerstown will take no chances but will start its entire first team. New Paris Vs. Verona. Another unknown team will break into this district when New Paris takes on the Verona high school at Keff Paris. New Paris has been going good so far this season and expects little difficulty in taking the scalp of Verona. The fast travelling Centervllle team journeys to New Lisbon Friday eveningund expects little difficulty. Cen

tervllle has signified its Intention of

V entering the tournament at Richmond

next spring and judging from the record made so far this season, will cause

other entrants to. sit up and take notice, f

Notre Dame Players to 'IMeet City Net Artists ' . 4 .. .. . A team composed of basketball players of Notre Dame, ineligible for the varsity, but members of the squad, will be seen in Richmond as opponents of the Old-Hi team on Friday, Dec. 26. Definite arrangements have not been completed . but announcements to this effect will be made later. -

Junior High Sports

The Large Whites were victorious in two out of three basketball contests in the Oarfield gym, Wednesday afternoon. The Beesons trimmed the Andersons by a 10 to 9 score. Chonis' large White team forfeited to the Bentlage five and the Johnsons forfeited to the Calkins. Absence of players was the cause for forfeiting. Cambridge City Baptists Want Basketball Games A basketball ' team ' has been organized by the Young Men's class of the Baptist church at Cambridge Cltyy and games are wanted with Independent teams in this vicinity. This team is composed of former Cambridge City high school players

and will offer-stiff opposition to any learby quintets. All games must be played on Saturday evening. -Those desiring games are to get in touch with Clifford oldham, Cambridge City, Indiana.

EARLIIAM STACKS UP AS EQUAL OF WABASH QUINTET

It looks like Earlham and Wabash have basketball teams of equal strength. Wabash defeated the Indiana Dentals by a 24 to 12 score Wednesday evening, which is the same score that the Dentals were trimmed by Earlham. Thin la MfiAniarlnv to f!ne.h Mol.

as the Wabash scrap is the only game i on the Quaker schedule that is causing him much . worry. . Wabash has practically the same team that won I. C. A. L. honors last year, and in tddition has Xhe cream of last year's igh school stars, j Mowe is now, however, centering his efforts upon taking the scalp of the

Cedarville college five. Little is known of the strength of this team with the exception that all of the players reach above the 72 inch mark and carry a considerable average of beef. Mowe says he will start his entire first team.

Ten players will be taken on the trip. They were to leave on the t:40 p, m. train f or Xeaia. Ohio. It is thought that the team will arrive back in Richmond on the 12 p. m. train. Friday is the last day of school, for this year, and basketball practice will have to be discontinued until two days before school starts. . Members of the team are going to be asked to report on Jan. 4. This will give Mowe a week in which to condition the team before the Rose Poly game on Jan. 9. It is probable that an Earlham freshman team will be formed and games will be sheduled with fast high school teams. Nothing will be done, however until after the Christmas holidays. - . A picked freshman team has already beaten the Monroe high school teamFive members of the Quaker first squad will compose the freshman quintet, which would include Fades at center, Ooar and Hadley, forwards, and Davis and Hlnshaw, guards. .

ball year, the Wabash five defeated

the Indiana Dentals by a 24-12 score in the f new, gym Wednesday 'night. Both teams , showed dearly the lack of practice; but on several occasions showed flashes of brilliant play.', . Hunt starred for the Scarlet, counting foun field goals during the halt he

played, besides being a power at. directing the work of the team. The

Scarlet captain showed some remarkable dribbling end floor work, threading the Dent defense like it. was a sieve. Reeves showed -best for the Dents, counting three field markers and playing a superior passing game. McPreson threw a single field goal ana scored twice on free throws from the foul line. . . . '. ' ' This was the first game on the new floor in the gym, and the Dents, accustomed to the small Indianapolis floors, missed many passes on the regulation tslse' floor, in. the new gym.
