M. C. Bishop, Indiana state super visor for the : Inter-Church World Movement .survey," will probably be present at " a conference of Wayne county workers which is to be held in the Richmond Y. M. C. A., the latter nart of this week or the first part of
next,, according to Lester W,. Carlander, Wayne county supervisor for. the survey. . .Those that will assist In the rural survey have not been named by Car- . i . til V.
lander nut a complete iorce wui w organized by the latter part of the week. - The Richmond survey will not be started until later in the year.
.Work of the same description is being done in each of the 3,000 rural counties of the country. With all the available forces of the various Protestant denominations of the county engaged in the work, the resulting census Is expected to be complete and authoritative. Based upon the ascertained facts, the movement will next seek to -work out a unified program '.which will be submitted to the evangelical constituency of the . United States for concerted action. " '" 'Each Body Will Work. In. this program each separate religious . body will undertake its Just part of 'the whole work. Each will preserve its own identity, control its own treasury and" working agencies, and will continue its own. labors in the recruiting of workers and funds.
"The movement has nothing to do
with . organic church union or doc
trinal -matters and does not propose to set up an super-commission with executive powers," said Carlander. It
simply seeks to show all the Christian bodies how they can work together for one cause, without any of them yielding any fundamental of belief, practice -or independence. "The movement assumes two things: That all evangelical, bodies are agreed upon the importance of contracting every effort .upon making the whole world Christian, so that Christian solutions can be applied to all the social, moral and industrial problems of the day; and that no evangelical body will refuse its support to a unified program to realize these aims, provided the program is definite, comprehensive, equitable to all and is clearly the best plan that has been devised." "No such plan, however, can be furnished until all the facts are in hands. It is to obtain the facts that the movement has begun . taking an inventory of the actual down to the last i household and last community of all humanity in relation to the religious needs and moral, spiritual, industrial and social environments. The foreign survey is being made through missionaries in the field, governmental agencies, reliable private sources and missionary headquarters in the United States. Workers Will Cover County The Wayne county rural workers, to be named by Carlander the latter part of the week, will collect the necessary information to make the Wayne county end of the movement a success. These .workers will collect information upon every church in the-county, its membership, its financial condition, whether its families are receiving pastoral ' care. These - workers
are to report upon cnurcn groupings,

This body is also composed of representatives at least one clergyman

The Inter-Church world movement Is of Southern origin. The idea of such an undertaking was set forth by the Foreign Missionary board of the Presbyterian church, south, last fall.

A committee of 20 was appointed to
draw an outline plan.
This was done and the outline was
approved at a later conference. A geaeral committee at first composed of
100 menut later enlarged to 151 was appointed. Then an executive committee was selected. A , general conference of 500 representatives from 200 Protestant Societies was held in Cleveland, O., in May, where the movement was approved. It has been indorsed since then by boards whose membership comes from 76 denominations, representing 200,000 churches
and a constituency of 50,000,000 persons. The movement is not concerned with missionary activities alone, but with all the great problems of the Christian church. For the execution of its purpose it has drawn together men technically trained in similar work tn the various denominational and interdenominational organizations.
