Four of last year's team were lost by graduation Captain Robinson, Munns. . Fry and Brate, the latter all-state. guard. This left only two regular players. Moor and French, also Brewer, a subforward. These throe are out for positions this season, and In addition there Is the following promising sew material:.. Forwards Munns, young brother of last year's star player; Heeter, who made a fine record at 8tirers high school. One of the surprises of the evening was the poor showing made by champion Art King, 146, being a sample of his scores. Hill's Laddies pulled the unexpected when they captured 2 games from Wilson's Cleaners. Consistent bowling turned the trick as not over 25 pins separated the two teams In all 3 games. High score for the evening was awarded to Slade, anchor man for the Cleaners, , when he toppled over 246 pins in the first game. High average for the evening went to Smith, of the Cokes, who . hung up a general average of 204. Perhaps he had decided at that time he would win the national amateur golf title some time, but he didn't Bay much about it. But that chap, S. Davidson Herron, now holds that title, winning It last summer against the best field of golfers brought together since the war ended. Herron is now only twenty-two. He Is a husky bird, though, weighing 205 pounds. . This weight helps - him in getting distance in his drives, one. of the outstanding features of his play. He's a college man. Went to Princeton. Graduated in 1918. Played golf In college, too, being a member of the college team four years. He broke 'into the national tournament game in 1915 when he tied Ned Sawyer in- the preliminary qualifying round of the title tourney at Detroit. Golfs his only real hobby. He tried football one year at Princeton, then passed it up. Richmond Chances Good in Spiceland Contest With but two weeks' practice, Richmond high will go into Friday evening's game with Spiceland, the favorite, inspite of the fact that Spiceland has been playing since the first of October, . At the conclusion of Thursday even ing's light workout, Coach Fries announced that Loehr and Reid at for ward, Dollins at center, Harding and Martin at guards, would compose the quintet to start the game against Spiceland. In addition Fries will have about 10x subs on hand.. , This is one of the strongest lineups that has ever represented Richmond at the start of the season.- When Price gets back in the game, Richmond will have one of the -most formidable tea3 In the state. Plans for making tho public aware that Karlham was playing its first game of the season were made. ; These plana are to center around three organizations, the band, drum -corps and rooters' division. Coach Mowe, Coach Hlggins, and several of the faculty. t Coach Mowe said that although he looked for the Indiana Dentals to cause Earlham .considerable trouble, Earlham would win. Marines Stage First Game With Whitewater Quintet The Richmond Marines, Independent basketball five playing out of the city, . will start their first game of the season against the . Whitewater Independents, at Whitewater, Fridey evening. The Marines Include such players as Carl Runnels and Dick Mansfield, as forwards, Harold Hunnels at the tipoff position, and Maurice DiUion and James Sherry holding down floor guard and back guard, respectively. Any other teams wishing games with the Marines should apply to the sporting editor of the Palladium. Tigers to Clash With Wilberforce Saturday f i A- large number of rooters are expected to accompany the Richmond Tigers for their first game of the season against the Wilberforce quintet, at Xenla, Ohio, Saturday evening. Walter Dennis has been coaching the team for the past month and says that it will be able to give a good account of itself. Wilberforce has not lost a game this season, and has victories over Indianapolis, Dayton and Springfield teams. The lineup of the locals in Saturday's game will include Hill, Dempsey and Carter, at forward, Tevls at center and Walker and Arnold, guards. Gee and Spears are subs.
