MARKETS

WAGNER GRAIN LETTER CHICAGO,. Dec. 4. Early Belling by-many late bulls broke the corn market yesterday and the market failed to regain a firm tone. The grain situation, however, shows no positive position beyond promise of some extra -receipts. Secretary Glass's announcement Is a long distance weight on grains. Right now the coal situation indicates that when mines start a big rush of coal will be on, and com movement cannot , assume any large proportions until January. There are no signs of a coal crisis end but the agreement can be only a few days away.' This suggests a peculiar market In which bulge realizing is due. , December .cotton touched 40 cents; a- new record. . There Is much talk that' the Increase proposed to the miners is most liberal

POSTPONES ACTION ON nODEFELO PROPERTY Because of the inability of Byram I Robbins, city attorney, who is counsel I for Dr. Krueger, now on trial in the circuit court, to be present at the , board of works meeting Thursday morning, a conference with A. H. Ro-. defeld was postponed until a later date. The consultation was to deter-!

mine a fair price for the proyerty owned by the Rodefeld Manufacturing company on West Main street, which the board wishes to buy for an approach to the new Main street bridge. The hearing for the opening and extension of South Fifth street from H to I streets, was postponed until

the first Monday after the first of the year, in order to give the citizens , who will be effected more time toi work on the project. City Engineer Davis reported that

the school signs, "tor guards to the approach of the city schools, could be purchased and erected for $4.50 a piece. It would take approximately 50 signs, which would make a total cost of about $225. No action was taken. The city engineer was instructed to communicate with the Fort Wayne board of works to ascertain what city department should take care of red lights placed on the right and left traffic signs at night The board has already voted to place red lights or lanterns on the street signs as a protection for drivers at night. Some friction has arisen among two of the city departments as to who should take care of the putting out and tak

ing - in of the lights, and as Fort Wayne uses the lights it was .believed to be a good ' plan to ' inquire about their system. . .
