GAS CO. ASKS THAT PREBLE RESTRAINING ORDER BE DISSOLVED

EATON, O., Not. 26. Argument of a motion by counsel for the Ohio

Gas & Electric company of Middletown, O., to dissolve a restraining

order granted the Preble county com

missioners against the company was heard Tuesday by Judge A. C. Rislnger in common pleas court, but tho proceedings were not completed and were adjourned until next Monday, after the company's side of the controversy had been presented. The restraining order was granted to prevent the company proceeding 'with the erection of poles and stringing wires along a road in the southeastern part of the county. The commissioners claimed the company's workmen were obstructing the road and furthermore the company had no franchise, from Preble county for

erecting a line In the county. The line was being constructed to West Elkton, Preble county, for the purpose of furnishing the village current for lighting and power purposes. It is undersood the commissioners are opposing construction of the line only because the county is without supervision as to the location of pole3, etc., since the company has no franchise from the county. The restraining order was granted some days ago by Judge W. J. Wright, of Lebanon, who was presiding in common pleas court in the absence of Judge Risinger. Dr. Churchill Speaks. Dr. S. P. Carter entertained the members of the Preble County Medical society Tuesday afternoon at his home in West Manchester. Dr. Churchill, of Richmond, Ind.. and Dr. J. E. Get Rid of Scrub Sire; HaUe Better Livestock

By P. G. HOLDEN. THE scrub must go I The highest type of citizenship, the best homes, the best folks are found where livestock has been the most used and the most improved. The higher the type of cltilenship, the fewer the scrub animals. Go where we may, we will always find that when people get through: robbing the soil and begin to develop a permanent, home-making agriculture, then we will find livestock. But breeds of livestock cannot be improved without the constant use of good sires. Because the sire Is mated to a large number of females, the selection of the sire is of great importance. A good sire Is one that possesses, to a marked degree, the type we want In the offspring and the prepotency to fix that type. The sire of greatest value is not the one that sires a few exceptional

If the Head of Our Herd Is a Scrub Like This, How Can We Get Any. where? animals. It is the one whose offspring are all above the average. The 6tre should be pure bred, but not a pure bred with a yellow streak. A aire may have a fancy pedigree, yet be a scrub individual, poorly shaped and partially or wholly impotent. A "pedigree and a certificate of registration are valuable only when they come with a useful aire, only when they show that he had useful ancestors, bred by honest men. A pure-brod sire may be of good type ; may have good ancestors ; may be prepotent, but he cannot improve our stock unless his offspring have good feed and good care. Butcher the scrub sire, whether be is a scrub individual or is of scrub breeding. Keep only the best females. Cut out scrub feeding. Let's begin NOW to swim upstream. Don't brand yourself as a scrub man by refusing to improve your livestock or by failure to improve it when you try. The scrub must go.

All of the retail coal dealers in tho

city have a supply, and are being supplied with small quantities as needed,

and except for a few persons who neglected to lay in their winter's fuel supply, the coal shortage will not be felt seriously for some time. Approximately 75 per cent of consumers in the city have a supply, and it is believed that the remaining 23 per cent can be supplied fror-. the reserve now being held by tpV ds. Only continued economy, however, will maintain the present coal supply, and consumers are warned against relaxing their conservation policies.

TONER APPEALS FOR SOLIDARITY IN 6.O.P.

ANDERSON, InL. Nov. 2 Edward C. Toner, candidate for the Repub

lican nomination for governor, In a

speech before the Roosevelt dub here Tuesday night, appealed to the rank and file of the party to stand by the

state administration and its record. He rapped what he termed the Republican "apologists' and declared that "those who Ignore the tremendous benefits which come from the tax law and engage in plcaynnlsh attacks upon a few minor details of the law, are giving aid to the Democrats." Hr. Toner took a decisive stand upon the Goodrich tax law and declared that if any errors exist in the measure they can be easily corrected. He defended that part of the law which gives the state board of tax commissioners power to limit bonded indebtedness and declared that such authority was necessary during the first year of the new law. Democratic Propaganda "There are in Indiana entirely too many apologists In the Republican' party." said Mr. Toner. "That's pre

cisely the situation. Short-sighted Re

publicans have heard the echo of an insidious Democratic propaganda and have caught it up and carried it on. They unwittingly are giving aid and comfort to the Democratic party. No

man ngntruny can claim the support and suffrage of loyal Republicans while In the same breath he repudiates the acts of a Republican Legislature and a Republican administration who has faithfully carried out the Republican party's solemn pledges. "These men are anoloeista for the

Republican party at a time when they should be praising an unparalleled record of Republican achievement. For I assert that the record of the Republican party in Indiana durincr the
