What Makes Bolshevists? What makes bolshevists? Labor has one answer; capital another. It is left for a speaker at the Social Unit conference which recently closed in Cincinnati, to cite still a third. He said, "Loneliness." Not the loneliness of the country; of the desert; of the plain. The loneliness of the crowded city, teeming with activity, but with no place for the plain man, except as a cog in the machine. "Our life has become so comptex," said the
speaker, "and the units through which we work the troubled waters of this present day
are so huge, that each individual is nothing as' over against a great impersonal organization. When I, the plain citizen, am nothing, I develop
either pessimism, cynicism, or hatred. When there are enough of me we have bolshevism." What is the answer? The speaker said, "A rebirth of neighborliness -organized, made efficient. Community organization under a definite plan, which will give every man and woman a chance to work closely with his fellows for some common end; to adjust his point of view to theirs; to feel himself an important member of the whole." There is a deep spiritual truth in what this speaker said. Another way of saying the same thing would be "The way to prevent bolshevism is more democracy of the old-fashioned, human, mutually helpful variety. Less bureauocracy ; less centralized control ; more self government ; more co-operation. Community organization gathering all- the human resources of a neighborhood around simple, common problems seems one way. If the Social Unit can present a plan, it has a great place to fill in steering the ship of state through

Facts about your name; its history; Its meaning; whence It was derived; Its significance; your lucky day and lucky Jewel. BY MILDRED MARSHALL
(Copyright. 1919. by The Wheeler Syndicate. Inc.) FANNY Fanny, -which was originally considered a diminutive of Frances, has become sufficiently an individual entity to bo regarded as a separate name entirely. It3 origin is in reality very complicated as it is one of a dozen dissimilar names that come from the
Frey of Teutonic mythology. Freya was the goddess of love, but she like- i vise drives over the battlefields in her car drawn by cats and chooses j half the slain whom she escorts to th-ir prats at the banquet of Valhalla. The modern Fanny Is apparently of i the days of Quern Anne, coming into j notice "with the beaultful Lady Fanny: Shirley, who made it a great favorite and almost a proverb for prettiness find simplicity, eo that the wits of George II's time called John, Lord Ilervey "Lord Fanny" for his effeminacy. Fanny Is often given at baptism instead of the full name. Fran-, sec, and bv an odd caprice, it has late- j ly been adopted in both France and Germany instead of their national con-; tractions. j
One poet, doubtless seeding to celebrate the beauty of the lovely Lady Shirley, wrote a "'Sons to Fanny" which has lyrical charm: "Nature, tby fair and smiling face Has now a double power to bless; For 'tis the glass in which I trace 3Iy absent Fanny's loveliness. Her heavenly eyes above me shine, The rose reflects her modest blush. She breathes in every eglantine, She sings in evevry worbling thrush. Hhat her dear form alone I see, Need not excite surprise in any; For Fanny's all the world to me, And all the world to me is Fanny". Fannv's iewel is the wondrously
slble to place these men on tn uninhabited island where human foot had never trod. It would not be five minutes before they would have their hands in the pockets of the naked savages." "What did you do last night?" "Oh, I read for a couple of hours." "I thought you were going to the movies." "I did go. Ninety per cent of the feature consisted of sub-titles."

THE GEORGE MATTHEW ADAMS DAILY TALK
ON BORROWING TROUBLE We have to pay for everything. But some things cost more than others trouble, for Instance! Of course trouble comes to us many times without oar asking. And that cannot be helped. But we can make plans to meet it however. We can tell It for instance, that we have all we can use and to go away. And when we take that attitude, it usually does leave us. For It cannot stay around one who simply will not have it. But to borrow trouble that is evidence of great ignorance. For you have to begin to pay it back one minute after borrowing it. The late Ella Wheeler Wilcox Immortalized herself with just a few lines of rhyme. Here they are known around the world: "Laugh, and the world laughs with you, Weep, and you weep alone For this sad old earth Must borrow Its mirth But ha3 trouble enough of Its own." Everything was invented for a purpose, nevertheless. And trouble has its place. Without it, we would not know how to face life. I have never met anyone who did not have their troubles, nor anyone who was not anxious to get rid of them. And I have experienced the offering of troubles to me "on loan" by the bushel! But the most unprofitable operation on earth Is to borrow trouble. Go into debt to help someone or to serve a good end but leave the trouble borrowing business alone.

Congress extended the scope of the approaching 1&20 census by providing that a census of forestry and forest products should be taken. These subjects were never spocificially covered by any past census act.

By darkening yeur hnir with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound, no one can tell, because it does it so natuni'ly, so evenly. Well, this party, came to my office one day, after having been away for about six months, and I never in all my life saw a man look in bettor health, or seem to feel better. I am an extra hearty eater, especially of meats and such foods as often produce bad effects, but none of these tilings disagree with me any more. So now, as I have discovered the value of Tanlac I am ready to honor it as one of the most beneficial of all medicines. I have prescribed it, in cases of rheumatism, kidney and bladder disorders and a run down condition, with wonderful results. I feel that I ought, tor the benefit of suffering humanity, to give my experience with Tanlac to the general public."
