Talks to a late hour and informal
session arter the formal program, featured the Republican women's luncheon at the "Westcott Saturday afternoon. More than 200 was the final count of atatendance. Special tables were set in the parlor. Toasts were not completed until late in the afternoon. Governor Jamos P. Goodrich sat at a long table placed at the south end of the main dining room, and gorgeously decorated with chrysanthemums sent by the Joseph H. Hill company. On the governor.s right sat Miss Esther Griffin White, Wayne county woman's chairman. Mrs. Charles Butler, associate secretary of the state Republican committee sat on the state executive's left. Also seated at the official table were L. S. Bowman, former Wayne county auditor, and chairman of the Wayne county central committee, now state auditor; Mrs. Elizabeth Claypool Earl, of Connersville, woman's chairman of the Sixth district; James M. Knapp of Hagerstown, representative in. the state legislature; William Woodward, county Republican chairman; Ed Paul, of Cambridge, and Walter Bossert of Liberty, Sixth district chairman. Each one of this party answered to toasts. In his address the governor outlined some of the important constructive legislative actions of the 1919 session of that bod.r which he characterized as the most, constructive legislation ever accomplished in a single session. In brief, his resume included: Legislative Accomplishments.. Democrats placed in positions where they were the logical men; teachers' salaries raised; employment r bureau organized; feeble minded colony for proper segregation; women v placed on state board of education; women's department of the indu3tlral board secured; formattlon of insurance and banking department which removed from state auditor's office departments not pertinent thereto; a state purchasing agent appointed; live stock sanitary commission. The governor also stated that he thought It expedient that political polls be taken of every precinct In the county as soon as possible. Several charming vocal numbers by Howard Hltz, a local singer of increasing popularity, was a decided atdition to the luncheon, as was the playing of the Earlham sextette, accompanied by Miss Edna Marlatt, on the piano. Enthusiastic applause was given the musicians. The Westcott hotel management was complimented upon the excellency of service and the 4 course turkey luncheon.
Malsby Urges Interest in National Guard Enlistment Plans are now under way for th3
formation of a unit of the new Indiana j National Guard In this city, announced !
Captain Malsby of Company K, Monday. At the urgent request of a number of local citizens, Adjutant General Harry 13. Smith, head of the state's military forces, has granted permission for the formation of a company here. "This honor will be more thoroughly appreciated when it is known that under the new plan of organizatioa promulgated by the War Department onlv a verv limited number of com
panies can be raised in each state, and : there is much competition among the
larger cities of the state for the honor of raising companies in the new Indiana National Guards. "One of the principal factors which Induced General Smith to Include this city In the list was the splendid record made by the officers and men of the local mlMtia company in helping to maintain law and order in the Calumet district in the last few months. The formation of the National Guard company will, of course, mean the muster out of the local militia unit. It Is realized that a number of the members of the militia company will not be able to enroll in the guard outfit on account of business reasons, and they may retire with a sense of duty well done. "They 'sat on the lid' during the world war, and formed an admirable second lino of defense. However, in
! their retirement they will not lose in
terest in the military affairs of tho i
community, but, on the contrary, a? one of them recently expressed it, every man that It compelled to retire should get a recruit for the guard organization take his place."
A program will be given in the afternoon as follows: Vocal solo, Mrs. R. S. Peele of Centerville; talL by Miss Lela Gaddis of Purdue university; demonstration on Christmas Candy Making by Miss Stella Harman; and a piano solo by Miss Ruth Otte.

League Will Win Yet, Says B. B. Johnson B. B. Johnson of Richmond, reasserts has belief that the League of Nations will win yet, in a communication to an Indianapolis paper. He says: "The world peace treaty with the league of nations attached has failed of ratification in the senate. It was ' so emasculated that its meaning was perverted and its real friends were compelled to defeat it. The result discredits the American name, humiliates the American people and misrepresents the American character bo -fore the nations. Nobody claimed the treaty was perfect. Everybody knew it was and inevitably must be a compromise document. But it was a long step in the right direction that of "pes.ee on earth and good will toward men." It represented the purest aspirations of humanity. It was the golden rule applied to national as it has long been applied to individual life. A great majority of American citizens were in favor of it. They believed in its spirit and purposes. They stll so believe and they will yet vindicate the United States and its president before the world. "Those who opposed the treaty were as nondescript in their motives as they were in their politics. Most of them were angry from some cause. Some of them repudiated their deliberate declarations made heretofore in order to vent personal spite. Partisan prejudice and political jealousy were added to personal envy with some. Deny it as they may, protest as they will, that is what the great mass of people think and that will be the rerdict of history on these senatorial marplots. But let these selfish schemers not deceive themselves. Let them beware. The Lord God is not mocked! He still rules in his Heaven and He will still overrule the work of evil men to the permanent good of His children. "These men may rejoice for a season but their rejoicing will be short lived. They have dug a pit for another, but they themselves will be buried therein and oblivion or Infamy
1 will be their portion. They do not unLayderstand th- true philosophy of life.
law of compensation. Their victory is but temporary. In very truth these men have defeated themselves. Out of their own mouths are they condemned. Evil and error can not endure. "Truth rnihl to earth will rise again ; The eternal years of God are hers; While error, wounded, writhes in pain And dies p. mid her worshipers. This sentiment is as tru" as it is old. "IV P.. JOHNSON."
