RICHMOND HI ENDS SUCCESSFUL SEASON
Although defeated, Richmond high displayed the best football in Saturday's p.rjie afiaianst the St. Mary's lovon,. exhibited all season. In the first part of the same the, lighter Richmond eleven displayed a much more varied attack than did the visitors. Coach Rock is to be complimented upon the showing the team has made in the jast two games. These showed real 1 on the part of Richmond. Rock had to start the season with but :'. players thai had ever taken part in a football game. Vet, Hamilton, one of the festest teams in Ohio and composed entirely of letter men, was held to a 32 to 6 rfcorc. The next Newcastle held Richmond to a 6 to 6 tie. Ixmlsville Manual Training, a much more experienced and heavier team, gave Richmond the short end of a 25 to 6 gcore. This was one of the best games played ly the local team. Then followed the defeat by Stivers of Dayton. Richmond broke into the win column by trimming Warsaw 18 to 7. The final Earn of the season saw St. Mary's winner of the 37 to 13 game. Locals Start Strong. It looked fotr a time Saturday as though Richmond was to hand the invaders the same treatment handed Warsaw. After St. Mary's had scored a touchdown, Kmslie sent Richmond into two line smashes for a couple of yards and then taking the ball himself, made a diagonal run across the field for a touchdown. Later with the ball on Richmond's 40 yard line, Shart attempted to punt but Motley broke through the line and grabbed the ball as it left the punter's toe and raced for a touchdown. Emslle kicked goal. St. Mary's then opened up an aerial attack and scored another touchdown. The half ended with the score 13 to 12 In favor of Richmond. St. Mary's continued the aerial attack in the second half and Richmond .weakened by the loss of Emslie and Harding, was unable to stop it. Kmslie played a sensational game as his speedy running and clever dodging enabled him to squirm past the Catholic tackle?. Price also uncorked some long runs. Shart, the Dayton fullback, was the star for the visitors, his 50 yard run for a touchdown being one of the bright spots. Dollins pTayed av sterling game at tackie and Russel demonstrated to the St. Mary's center how the position should be played. Loehr also put up a good exhibition. Although not being able to gain much ground on the offensive, he was a "bear" on defensive work. Lineup and Summary Richmond Position St. Mary's Zuttermeister ..L. T Moloney E MilesMotley R. Two Tons of Grid Material To Cincinnati From Miami
OXFORD, O.. Nor. 24. Miami University will take thirty-three men to Cincinnati Thanksgiving Day to meet the University of Cincinnati in the annual gridiron contest between the two institutions. Their combined weight is 5.5:::: pounds. The heaviest weighs 225. the lightest 137. Announcement was made today that arrangements had been completed for the running of a special train to Cincinnati Thursday morning, leaving hr-re at 7:45 and returning, leaving Cincinnati at 11: Z0 at night. Tickets for the game were placed on sale here this morning, and the supply was soon exhausted. Practically the entire student body will attend th--game, also there will be a large crowd of town people. While no predictions are being mad'? by Coach Little or Physical Director Brodbeck as to the result of the con test, every man m tne squad is loua In his claims that Cincinnati will be defeated. The Miami Sturcne. the weekly newspaper of the university, came out last week with a big black headline, "We Must Beat Cincinnati or Bust." Fast Colored Quint Will Represent Local Body The "Richmond Colored Athletic Association." organized to promote athletics among the colored people of Richmond, has a basketball team which will play its first game with the Wilberforce colored quintet, at Wilberforce, Saturday, Dec. 13. Tevis, captain and center, is one of the best men for the center position in Richmod. Howard, Walker and Hill are to pay guards. Carter, Arnold, Dempsey and Hockinsmith are listed as forwards. Walter Dennis is president of the R. C. A. A., and will coach the basketball team. "Jack" Tevis will act as assistant manager. Burton Howard is vice president and Grand Suears is secretary-treasurer. The Capitol five, of Columbus, Ohio, will play the local team on the coliseum floor, Saturday, Dec. 20. The next game scheduled is with the Springfield Independents, on Jan. 9, and on January 22, this team will play a return game. No date has been schudled, but the Indianapolis colored V. M. C. A. will be seen in action on the local floor. A team artveling out of Chicago probably will play the locals here, in December. When possible, home games will be played on the coliseum floor, but when some other team has the floor, the Garfield gym will be used. Notre Dame State Champs; J. U. Team is Lionized for Victory Over Syracuse Notre Dame annexed the state football title Saturday by defeating Purdue at Lafayette, 33 to 13, while Indiana finished the season with a great victory over Syracuse, 12 to G. While the victory of Notre Dame was an expected happening, it was thought that Syracuse would have an easy victory over Indiana, for the easterners came to this section with a great record. The games marked the close of the season for Indiana and Purdue, but Notre Dame has one panic yet to play, that with Morningside, next Thursday. The Catholics went through a season without a defeat, chalking up var-
ied amounts of scores' on opponents. The closest scrap registered agaist Rockne's eleven was made by the Army, when the Irish had to open up their attack tow in by a 12 to 9 count. True, the Irish have one more game to play, and that at Sioux CityThursday, against Morningside, but
unless- the biggest upset of the west comes to pass, Notre Dame followers will look back to the 1919 season as one of the greatest an Irish team ever went through with. BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Nov. 24. Indiana's wonderful football team is being lionized on all sides for its wonderful victory over Syracuse Saturday. Monday evening the pigskin heroes are to be the guests at a banquet given by the Phi Psi fraternity house. Considering the fact that this frat does not have a man on the eleven, the compliment is especially appreciated. The Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, Rotary club and Miss Agnes Wells, dean of women, are also planning big banquets in honor of the gridiron gladiators. Head Coach Stiehm has ordered a miniature gold football for every man who played in the Syracuse game. In addition to the monogram sweaters, the athletic association will award a lighter jersey to every man on the squad. BIG TEN STANDING Won. Lost. The outcome of the game was a surprise, as the "dope" favored the visitors. Edwards was the individual star for the locals. FIRST FORMAL CALL FOR H. S. QUINTET
The first call for basketball at Richmond high school was made Mondamorning by Coach Fries. The practice was to be held in the high school gymnasium immediately afier the close of schooL Coach P'ries and Miss Wickmeyer, girls' athletic director, held a conference Monday morning to arrange practice schedules. On the days that the girls are to have use of the gym, the men's squad will work out in the coliseum. Basketball prospects are bright. The squad will include 4 letter men and will be coached by a mentor who has had 9 years' experience. Four of these 9 years were spent by Fries in charge of the basketball teams of Ripon college. Coach Fries is a firm believer in the 4 man offensive, and will drill the team exclusively in the 5 man defense. The 5 man defense was the means employed by Richmond to throw a scare into the champion Bloomington team at the state tourney last year. Milroy and Hagerstown are touted as the most formidable teams in th's district although no games have been scheduled with either of these schools. Coach Fries will have a little over 3 weeks in which to whip a team into shape. The first game is with the Spiceland academy five on the coliseum floor. Games with Muncie and Anderson, have been cancelled. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and C, being to a early a date. Manager Vernon is angling for a game with the Manual Training high school, of Louisville, Ky., for Dec. 19. No definite results have been reached yet, however. A game with the Hamilton, Ohio, quintet will also be scheduled, if possible. Following is the correct schedule up to date: Dec. 12 Spiceland here. Jan. 9 Huntington here. Jan. 16 Muncie here.
