W., bolshevists and reds are shooting our service men, dynamiting cur public buildings and fomenting endless trouble, the Department of Labor and the Bureau of Immigration tell us they know not how to proceed with the enemies of our country that have been turned over to them by the Department of Justice. The Department of Justice says the reds will be deported and the Department of Labor claims "disposition of the criminal band rests entirely within its jurisdiction", to quote the Indianapolis Star. Heads of the immigration bureau say it may be a year before the reds can be deported. What America needs is less red tape and more direct action in handling members of organizations pledged to destroy our institutions. The American people are tired of dilatory methods

and a shifting of responsibility from bureau to last one. Humanity suffered as perhaps never

it 9,998,771, and the presumed dead at 2,991,800. The direct cost is given at $186,000,000,000. Among the indirect costs it places the capitalized value of soldier human life at $33,551,276,280. Property losses are divided as follows: On land, $29,960,000,000; to shipping and cargo,

$6,800,000,000.

tions $45,000,000,000. War relief added $1,000,000,000. These figures are staggering. They do not include the many intangible elements that cannot be computed by the statistician. - What of the starving children and suffering mothers, the helpless cripples and unfortunates! No one can measure the misery and woe of the war torn countries and represent the agony in dollars and cents. The cries of the mothers hurried into exile, the wails of the orphans, the appeals of the aged, the suffering of the refugees will forever escape the effort of the analyst to enter them in the book of judgment. Only those who endured that agony will know what it cost in spiritual and nervous exhaustion.
