She Married An Average Man

BY ZOB BECKX.B3T

For a moment I didn't reply to Jim's remark that "in married life one generally has to choose between Independence and happiness." I was thinking It over. "If that Is so." I answered, "it is because married lite is wrong, and not because independence ia wrong. 1 have not yet given up hope, Jim. of making our marriage a partnership, in which you and 1 have equal rights 1o independent action and equal obligations to contribute. "1 am no tyrant, Ann. You may

Lave all the independence you want in your own sphere. But when a woman goes out of her sphere " "Oh, Jim, I simply will not go over that ancient ground again, that eternal dispute as to a woman's sphere. A woman's sphere is whatever she fan do best. A wife might be able to keep a store wll and not know how to make biscuits. Her husband might be an excellent cook and utterly fail In business. It's all too well established to argue about This whole horrid discussion grows out of the fact that you have asked your mother to visit us without even telling me. We're getting away from the point." "Mother is coming next Tuesday," said Jim, in a martyred voice "Where will she sleep?" I asked, cold resentment creeping over me "Why, in the epare room, of course." "We have no 6pare room, Jim. You mean, of course, the room I work in, the only " "Yes. Ann," Jim Interrupted, in Icy tones, "if your work is so difficult and delicate that you cannot shift it to the sitting room temporarily, I will not insist, of course. I can have mother stay at a hotel." It was with the greatest effort I kept back the tears. I realize now they were tears of selfishness and anger. One is never so angry as when 'i one Is in the wrong. Nevertheless, wrong or not. I could not at the moment force myself to be amiable and ielding. I was too mad at Jim. at myself, at circumstances, at every-

thin. "No one will stay at a hotel, my dear," 1 said, my heart pounding with futile resentment, "unless. It is I. I shall be perfectly courteous to your mother, Jim. But I cannot give up my work. If 1 find I cannot do it at home under the circumstances, I shall go elsewhere." "You are very unreasonable. My mother will make no trouble. On the contrary, she will help you in a hundred ways. I should think you would appreciate her kindness, Instead of showing such an inhospitable spirit" Jim's reply wos self-controlled and made in kindly tones. I felt ashamed of myself, yet exasperated beyond words with the the whole situation. Is there any four-room apartment in the universe big enough to accommodate comfortably a man, his mother and his wife and her work? The thought flashed into my mind that nine-tenths of all the friction in this

world comes from people trying to live together. If I had my way homes

would be built on the "cottage system," a little house for the husband,

a little house for the wife, and a separate one for each visiitng relative!

But because I was ashamed of my unregenerate thoughts I crossed the room, kissed Jim's unresponsive cheek, and tried to tame myself Into a forebearing, wifely mood. What Bort of woman is Jim's mother, I wonder? (To be continued.)

Don't Be Bald

How to Make Hair Grow Strong, Thick and Lustrous.

Tells How She Did It With a HomeMade Remedy. Mrs. E. H. Boots, a well-known resident of Buchanan County, Ia., who darkened her gray hair, made the following statement: "Any lady or gentleman can darken their gray or faded hair, and make it soft and glossy with this simple remedy, which they can mix at home. To half a pint of water add 1 ounce of bay rum, one small box of Barbo Compound and i ounce of glycerine. These ingredients can be purchased at any drug store at very little cost. Apply to the hair every other day until the gray hair is darkened sufficiently. It does not color the scalp; is not greasy and does not rub off. It will make a gray-haired person look 10 to 20 years younger." Adv.

Few of us get bald in a day and we all have ample warning when our hair is thinning out. Parisian sage is a most efficient hair invigorator, but to quickly stop any further loss of hair and promote a new growth it must be rubbed into the scalp so the starved hair roots can really absorb it and get the vital stimulation so badly needed. You will surely be delighted with the first application, for your hair and scalp should look and feel 100 per cent better. Parisian sage is not expensive. It's a scientific preparation that supplies hair needs a clean, non-sticky, antiseptic liquid that is sold at good drug stores everywhere with a guarantee to give satisfaction or money refunded. Good looking hair is half the battle in any man's or woman's personal appearance. Neglect means dull, thin, Hfnlosa hair and finallv baldness.

1 while a little attention now should

insure thick and lustrous hair for years to come. No matter what your hair troubles try a Parisian massage tonight you will not be disappointed. Adv.

The Dreco man, the noted expert who recently came to this section for the purpose of assisting in the elimination of the many diseases prevalent in this section, has issued a formal statement with the request that it be given wide publicity through the columns of the newspaper. Since arriving in the South, the Dreco man's time has been filled in holding public receptions, at which time he has always been glad to meet the men and women who desired his suggestions on the treatment and relief of many ills and malignant diseases common to the average business and working man and woman. When seen recently he said "It is probable that nine-tenths of all disease could be prevented if proper care were laken of the stomach. Poor digestion and defective assimilation is the primary cause of most kidney, liver, bladder, bowel and blood troubles here. It hat- also been proven that almost every disease can be effectively relieved by removing the cause of the trouble instead of just merely treating the symptoms. My greatest success in the alleviation of human ailments has probably been directly duo to my work along these lines. "Whenever men and women work and strive in shop, office, factory and among the weary wives and mothers who bear the burdens of domestic work, I have found that healthy life

and joy of living go hand in hand with the strengthening of the bodily funcand the driving out of the disease by the removal of the cause. "There are many people in this section who, through sickness, disease and trouble have given up all hope of being cured. It is to jubt these classes of people I wish to convey the thought that no man or woman is past help. No matter how serious the disease may seem to be, r.o matter how many things you have iried, no matter how old you are, I feel certain that if you will only test the merits of my wonderful "Miracle Medicine", as it has been called, but which is known professionally as Dreco, you will find that the very elements that go to make up this new scientific medicine, are of such nature that they cannot be taken into the system without their effects being immediately felt. Dreco is by no means a cure-all. It is a careful combination of roots, herbs, barks, flowers and the extracts therefrom, all blended together with the design to relieve malignant ailments arising from defective stomachs and digestive canals, by striking directly at the cause of the trouble in nature's own way. Mr. Powers, the well known Dreco expert, lia.s headquarters at Thistlethwaite's Drug Store, 6th and Main Sts., to meet the local public and explain the merits of this great remedv. See him today.
