Coal Conservation The plea made by the state public utilities commission for conservation of coal should be acted upon with dispatch and good faith by every one in Indiana. The coal strike is far from settled, and even if the miners and operators come
to terms, many days will elapse before a normal output of coal is delivered to the railroads for shipment. In the meantime the greatest economy of the fuel is the order of the day. Superintendent Dillon of the light plant has asked business men to discontinue unnecessary lighting and to curtail the use of electricity wherever possible. His request goes to the homes also. Every bulb that is kept lighted with
out serving a distinct purpose is a waste of energy. Some may complain at the request of the superintendent, but it is far better to heed the warning now than to go without lights later on. If citizens by the co-operative efforts to reduce the consumption of light and power can conserve the coal supply of the plant, they are doing a pat
riotic service in an hour when it is most needed.
Many of us, unknowingly and unwittingly, have become profligate in the use of electricity. It is a handy utility. A turn of the switch, or the pressing of a button, and our rooms are flooded with light. Too often, we forget that the same pressure on the switch and button will extinguish the light, thereby effecting an economy. There is so little trouble in obtaining the use of the utility that we turn it on and permit it to burn many hours without satisfying a particular need.
1 If it required an expenditure of energy on our part, or if it were troublesome to obtain the ser-
The important thing for us to remember now is that we must conserve on the use of electricity or perhaps be forced to forego its use entirely later. Superintendent Dillon has sounded a caution and warning. Wise citizens will unite in obeying it for the common good. If we disregard it, we will pay the penalty.

Nora, which has always seemed as-1 But love in yours, my Nora Creina,
sociated with beauty to the extent of frequently being synonomous, really comes under the class of military names and since it is derived from that which a soldier most esteems, it signifies honor. Honor was a deity in ancient Rome, but Honorius first appears as a proper name in one of the appellations of the Spanish father of the great Theodosius. It was inherited by that imbecile being, his grandson, the last genuine Roman Emperor and also by a niece called Justa Grata Honoria, who dishonored all three of her honorablo names. But some lingering allegiance to the last rulers of the Umpire perpetuated their names and finally we hrv H-rnrinp. n. N".iQtrin maiden
