Three wins against 2 defeats is the record up to date and by Saturday evening Coach Mowe has hopes of having 4 wins marked up. Wittenburg and Wabash are the two teams which upset Earlham, It was pure luck that enabled Wabash to make so large a score against the Quakers, as S touchdowns were handed the Scarlet Butler, Franklin and Wilmington are the teams that lost The entire squad will be put through stiff workout Tuesday afternoon and evening, as Coach Mowe believes In hard practjoe. All of the Quakers emerged from the Butler scrap uninjured and will be on the Job Tuesday afternoon. Bowling Notes By winning three straight games at the T alleys Monday evening, the Easy Pull bowling quintet demonstrated to the Hoosler team which of the two had the right to lead the league. The Easy Pulls are now at the top of the procession. Ernie Way shocked all those present by gathering 214 pins in the final game. This handicap is flared upon the bowling average of the players for last year. Miami Gets Ready for Cincinnati After Victory OXFORD, O., Nov. IS. Miami University's football team arrived home from Alliance yesterday, in fine shape after their victory over Mt. Union College, Saturday. Several of the men have scratches, but none was injured in any way. Work has now begun in preparation for the closing game jot the season with the University of Cincinnati in that city on Thanksgiving day. This is considered by far the most important game of the season. Cincinnati has not defeated Miami for five years on the Turkey Day occasion, though last year's game was a 0 to 0 tie. CATARRH DOES HARM Whether It Is of the Nose, Throat or Other Organs, Get Rid of It Catarrh of the nose or throat when It becomes chronic weakens the delicate lung tissues, deranges the digestive organs, and may lead to consumption. It impairs the taste, smell and hearing, and affects the voice. It is a constitutional disease and requires a constitutional remedy. Support of Fans Urged for Independents' Games Preparations towards Sunday's
game with Eaton will be made by Enzles Reserves at a practice that is to be held In the South Tenth street park, Tuesday evening. Captain Sheridan is anxious to stow away a igame on the win side and all mem bers of the squad are urged to be present Richmond fans have never in the past given independent football teams support, and have caused nearly all the games to be played away from here. Portland, with a population about one fifth that of Richmond, has an attendance of about 1.000 at every home game of the Portland team. Backed by this patronage, Portland has one of the best teams in Indiana and can offord to pay the players good salaries for their services. Those playing on the Reserves do so for the love of the game and do not receive any recompense. For this reason games with Pine Village, Ham mond, Wabash A. A. and other fast teams cannot be scheduled. H. S, BASKETBALL MEN HAVE WORKOUT An unofficial practice for the basketball aspirants of Richmond high school was to be held in the gymnasium, Tuesday afternoon, but the first official call for candidates will be made next Monday afternoon, announced Coach Fries who will have charge of the R. H. S. basketball hope fuls this season. The practice held Tuesday afternoon will not Include any member of the football squad. The first two games of the schedule have been cancelled by Manager Ver non in the belief that two weeks is not time enough for Coach Fries to pick and drill a team that would be capable of putting up any opposition against Anderson and Mnncie. These teams have been playing scheduled games since Nov. 1 and by Dec. 5 and 6 would be going at top form, while the defenders of the red and white would be untrained. Coach Fries has never seen any of the R. M. S. hopefuls in action but he believes he has a classy batch of material. Four letter men, Dollins, Price, Harding and Loehr, are included. Others who have had experience are Vogelsong, Hoerner, Latta, Vore and Emslie. Biggest Football Day of Year, Next Saturday Hooslerdom is driving on to Its biggest football Saturday of the season. Indiana and Purdue will vie with each other in the big games of the day. Indiana meets the formidable Syracuse eleven, while Purdue clashes with the equally formidable Notre Dame combination. These games are not the only ones by any means in which Hoosier Institutions will participate. DePauw will run into the strongest opposition it has met this season when it faces the Centre College eleven at Louisville. Wabash will enter the Northland to meet Marquette at" Milwaukee. Earlham invades Ohio territory to clash with St. Xavier at Cincinnati, St. Louis "U" will enter the home of the Engineers at Terre Haute, while Chicago Tech will pit strength with Valparaiso at Valparaiso. The first taste of football near the week-end will be dished out when Butler will make its last effort to win a game this season by bearding the Franklin team in its den on Friday. So, it can be seen that Indiana col leges will face a busy week in preparation for the big clashes on the schedule. While Indiana is putting on the little football feast, the East and West will be having title games. The classic Harvard and Yale battle will be fought out at Cambridge, while Ohio State and Illinois will meet for the Big Ten honors at Columbus. Altho "Big Boy" Evans says the "stuff" can't last forever, said "stuff" lasted long enough last night to enable a number of bowlers to put on th; classiest exhibition of bowling ever witnessed in Richmond, when King, Hoffman, Bennett, Smith, Evans. Meyers, Slade and Blomeyer hit the maples for an average of 193 in a total of 48 games. Bob Hoffman was the individual star of the evening when the Peoria Kid ran through 9 games with an average of 219. Apparently Bob doesn't need our sympathy, yet the Fates were very unkind to him last evening. In his seventh game, after having 219, 222 and 268 scores to his credit, Bob smiled confidently, took a hitch in his trousers, ordered a coke, spoke a few words of encouragement to his three fingered ball, and started a game Ends Stubborn Coughs in a Hurry Tnr real WTwtlvenr.. thla old home-made remedy baano equal. Katil? and cheaply prepared. YouTi never know how quickly a bad couah can be conquered, until you try this famous old home-made remedy. Anyone who has coughed all day and ail night, will sav that the immediate relief given is almost like magic. It takes but a moment to prepare, and reallv there is nothing better for coughs. Into a pint bottle, put 2Va ounces of Tinex; then add plain granulated sugar vrup to make a full pint. Or you can use clarified molasses, honey, or corn svrup, instead of sugar syrup. Either way, the full pint saves about twothirds of the money usually spent for cough preparations, and gives you a more positive, effective remedv. It keeps perfectly, and tastes pleasant children like it. You can feel this take hold instantly, soothing and healing the membranes in all the air passages. It promptly loosens a dry, tight cough, and soon you will notice the phlegm thin out and then disappear altogether. A day's use will usually break up an ordinary throat or chest cold, and it is also splendid for bronchitis, croup, hoarseness, and bronchial asthma. Pirex is a most valuable concentrated compound of genuine Norway pine extract, the most reliable remedy for throat and chest ailments. King's high scare for the alleys an cient history. For 10 straight frames Bob shot true to the. marknot once was there a doubt as to whether it should hare been a strike. On his eleventh ball the Fates played their part, when in some way Bob struck his ankle in rolling, only getting 5 pins. His 12th ball got the remaining 5, giving him a total of 2S5. It was tough. Bob you must know that we were all for you. "Huff" wasnt the only star of the evening Walter Bennett also stepped Into the front ranks with an average of 212 for 8 games, his high score tor the evening being 258, and the Hoc Arthur King' kicked in for an average of 207 far 9 games. Bennett also gave a burlesque on - ,.L 1 up a score of 109. Walter, Walter if we didn't know that you are capable of better things we would actually be ashamed of you. This man Huffman Is practically a new man on the Richmond alleys nevertheless a man of "Huff's" type can't stay new long. We asked him last night where he was from and he led us over to one corner and whisper ed one lone word Peoria. We haven't decided yet whether that was meant as a confession or a boast Ray Slade had a pretty game started, when he succeeded In getting C straight strikes, but broke it up in the seventh frame when he only got 9 pina and then proceeded to blow the other one. All told the games rolled last night were mighty good and John (Count) Gengler, the Chicago wizard might well begin to consider Richmond's bowlers as possible contenders for some of his fame. Of course, a large degree of the credit goes to Old Faithful Father Ryan, who is always on hand with a smile and a word of encouragement We found Pete Schneider, Wib Sturm and Wib Fully practicing up last night We wonder what conspiracy Is under way now. INDIANA-ILLINOIS RATES TORE EQUAL? INDIANAPOLIS, Ind- Nov. 18. The discrimination in freight rates between Indiana and Illinois that has hampered Indiana industry and commerce for more than a score of years will be wiped out by Dec 1, members of the Public Service Commission believe. This opinion Is based upon authoritative information the commission has received from the railroad administration that the recommenda
tions made Saturday by the Interstate Commerce Commission will be acted upon at once by Walker D. nines, director general of railroads. "Should the director general fan to the roads are returned to private con troL" EL L Lewis, chairman of the commission, said, "the fact remains that the victory for Hoosler shippers is complete. The fact that the Interstate Com merce Commission has recognised the unfairness of the Indiana-Illinois rate situation is enough to bring Joy to Indiana shippers. The national regu latory body, which, under the terms of over railroad rates, is now on record on the Esch bill, will have complete control of the matter and would not fail to give Indiana the relief it deserves. Richmond corsetiers say nay, that up to $10 corsets are a necessity. In accord with modern dress, women must be corseted and many stout figures can not be fitted under $5, when the war tax comes on, they explain. Therefore they say there is an unfair discrimination between the stout lady who to be fitted had to wear a $6 one and the thin lady who looks "fit" in a $2.98 corset which goes without tax. Evidently a goodly number of Chi cago women agree with Richmond salesman and wearers, for Congressman Mann of Illinois, started to Washington Monday, carrying with him a petition signed by 625 "legal voters and residents of the state of Illinois," praying for relief from the luxury tax on corsets. This petition sets forth that corsets are "a necessity and not a luxury." Local physicians varied on the subject "Women have to wear them. They are a necessary support if for no other reason than to keep skirts from pulling from the waist line," said a sur geon.
