ALUMNI TROOPING Y BACK FOR BUTLER
GAME; HOPE VICTORY
b
Led by Glen Wood, famous Earlham
yell leader, members of the class of '14 will turn out in large numbers for the homecoming game of the Earlham football season, with Butler Saturday afternoon. The class of '14 will compose only a small part of the alumni expected, for under the direction of Prof. Trueblood, preparations for the largest home-coming-crowd of history are being made. The delegation will come from all parts of the country but the largest batch is expected from Indianapolis. A special car has been chartered, and the old grads of the capital city will root for their alma mater. All indications point to an easy vic
tory for the Quakers, but the present
year has been hard on the old dope
bucket. Butler Has Won Two. The last two contests between the old rivals has resulted in 2 victories for the Irvington school. In 1916 Earl
ham came out on the short end of a 27 to 0 score and In 1917 in one of the hardest fought games of the season, Butler took the winning side of '6 to 0 count. This year, Earlham hopes to take revenge, and nothing short of an overwhelming score will please the Earlham rooters. A defeat of Butler will give Earlham a claim to the position of runner up in the I. C. A. L. race, providing Wabash "beats Franklin. If the unexpected happens and Wabash is trampled, Earlham will have an equal claim upon the J. C. A. L. championship. Even though Wabash does win from Coach Thurber's eleven, Earlham could put in a claim as Depauw had difficulty
In winning from Franklin and then
'fought a tie game with Wabash. Yet
Earlham outplayed the Baptists, In all stages of their game. Carey, the lengthy center, will be able to get into Saturday's scrap, as will Hall, the husky tackle. These additions further boost the dope and make the Quaker line-up stronger than any previous time this year.
City Will Have Polo, Decision at Meeting A four-team polo league will be formed, it was decided and captains were "appointed, at a meeting held by polo enthusiasts of the city in George Brebem's store. Monday evening.
Carl Reid will manage a team from the Starr Piano company; Harry O'Metz for the Hlmes Diary; Tax Bradfield, the Greek Candy company, and Harry Feasel, the Miller-Kempers.
Walt Evans, Lou and Sox Quigley and Harrison Fry are the premier polo players in the city and all 4 have bad
good offers from, eastern teams but
would not accept. Lou Quigley has been the most sought after one of the
4, however. These players will be di
vided, one to each team of the city
league.
A schedule and the line-up will be decided upon at' another meeting to be held in George Brehm's Wednesday
evening.
CONTROL OF SPIT2BERGEN
IS GIVEN TO NORWAY
(By Associated Press)
PARIS, Nov. 11. Through a decision of the Supreme council, Norway is
given political sovereignty over Spitz
bergen, sometimes called "No Man's Land of the Arctic." Spitzbergen is
rich in coal and iron and several attempts to exploit these resources has
already been made.
Seams of coal estimated to contain
5,000,000 tons to the square mile are
reported by a Scottish explorer, who has recently completed an exhaustive
geological survey of the Island.

BIG TEAMS MEET IN MANY GAMES
Just two more Saturdays and the foot ball classics will have gone on record for 1919. There are a few important, contests to be decided after Nov. 22, but the bulk of the big contests will be out of the way before Turkey day. In the battle between Wabash and Franklin at Indianapolis Park Saturday, the I. C. A. L. title will be decided. DePauw and Purdue battle at Lafayette. Butler journeys to Richmond to make xme more bid for a victory. Notre jbame and Michigan Aggies hook urp at Notre Damo. Rose Poly playsValparaiso at Valparaiso, while Indiana goes to Evanston to do battle wfth Northwestern. Michigan and Illinois clash at Urban in a contest which should be a rVnriiler. Illinois will lock horns with the Badgers at Madison. Then Iowa meets Chicago. The Maroons should win this game. Indiana and North
western play a Big Ten game, but the outcome matters little in the final standing. Yale and Princeton take the field at
New Haven. Forty-two games have been played between the Tigers and the Bull Doss. Twenty-three times Yale has won, while 10 have gone to Princeton. The next big game of the east will be between Colgate and Syracuse. Penn plays Pittsburg with the Panthers ruling favorites. Dartmouth should whip Brown, while Harvard should trim Tufts. Penn State looks upon the Cornell battle as a soft cpot in its schedules, while Washington
and Jefferson should have little trouble in trimming Bethany. , Earlham has gone wild over its defeat of Franklin and can't see any reason why Butler should not be trounced at Richmond Saturday. Butler has yet to enter the win column and has two games left on the card. An effort will be made to slip over a victory on Earlham, despite the fact that it will not rule the favorite. Taking advantage of two week's of rest, the Christians will be in perfect shape to meet the Quakers.
COLUMBUS, Ohio. Nov. 11. Ohio has good crops to be thankful for thin year. Its wheat crop was large and
now follows a good corn crop, the har
vesting of which has not been com-, pleted. "With a record-breaking average yield of 44 bushels per acre, Ohio produced a corn crop this year of 159,544,000 bushels," says J. L. Cochrun, in charge of the Ohio crop reporting service. "This exceeds last year's crop by about 26,000,000 bushels and the ten-year average producing of the state by nearly 13,000.000 bushel. The quality of the crop is 92 per cent, nine points above the ten-year average. About 11 per cent of the total acre
age planted to corn this year was cut for silos, with an average yield of 8.4 tons per acre. "The early crop of potatoes this year was a poor one, but the prolonged season and rain helped the late pota
toes and brought the average yield for
the crop as a whole up to 62 bushels per acre. This gives the. state a pro
duction of 9,300,000 bushels, about
2,000,000 bushels less than last year's
crop and nearly 5,000,000 bushels under the average production for the Dast 10 years.
The Bangor (Me) High School will
have a complete moving picture equip ment.
Jack Kearns is concentrating his at
tention on the consummation oi a
match between Jack Dempsey ana joe Beckett. If Beckett cannot be induced
to come to this country, Dempsey, who
has reconsidered an earlier determination not to defend his title on foreign
Boll, will cross the seas to fight England's premier heavyweight. This much was learned at a meeting recently between Kearns and Dave Mac-
kay, a Newark, promoter, wno sougai to obtain Kearns' consent to a bout involving Dempsey and either Willie Meehan or Battling Levinsky In New
ark on Dec. 8.
Of course I am willing to listen to
any offers for bouts for Dempsey, said Kearns, "but the one I am most Interested in just now is that which
has been made to me for a Dempsey-
Beckett bout at New Orleans. Dan Tortorich. the promoter in that city,
has offered Jack $150,000 for his end
of a bout with the English champion,
and pressure is now being brought to bear on Beckett to make him agree to come over here, something which he
doesn't appear to be very anxious to
do. I'll say this right now: If I be
come convinced that Beckett will not
cross the ocean to fight Jack and if
he doesn't come at the behest of the
people who are now after him he won't
come at all we will go to England . "The fight game Is remarkably pop
ular in England just now. Why, a friend of mine who recently returned
to the United States told me today he
had paid $175 for a ringside seat for the Beckett-McGoorty bout. Kearns' eyes gleaned as he thought of the excellent pickings which Merrie England now affords, and the longer he talked the larger grew the sums he mentioned. "An- English spotsman told me the other day he would give Jack $100,000 for his end of a fight with Beckett in
London. I asked him how much he
thought it would draw and he said in
the neighborhood of 81,000,000. I
thought he was jokng, but he assured me he wasn't. I told him in that case I'd demand $250,000 for Dempsey and
he said he'd have to talk the proposition over with his associates in England before he could offer me that amount." The careless manner in which Kearns discussed such huge sums soon had Mackay talking ' the same way. "If you succeed in bringing Beckett to this country,"he said, "I am prepared to offer you $200,000 for your end." "I'll consider that offer if the Englishman ever does come," responded Kearns. Kearns says reports made to him by those who have recently come from
England indicate that the British followers of the glove game think Beck
ett is unbeatable. "They tell me that even if the Brit
ish fans had an opportunity to see!
Dempsey in action theyd still hold to! the belief that he would be soft for' Beckett," he said. "Any time Jack '
steps into the ring with Beckett, the
Britons will make Beckett the favor-, ite in the betting. Can you imagine j
that?"
When great line men are discussed'
in these days and times, some of the
veterans of football hark back to the i days of Carlisle's glory on the grid-j iron, and speak of the mighty Bemus j Pierce. Pierce played .with his broth-1 ers, Jerry and Hawley, on the same' team with Thaddeus Red Water, the '
Cheyenne, who is now an agent of Uncle Sam in the Indian service. Bemus Pierce scaled nearly 225 pounds, but he was tall and solid as a rock. Despite his great bulk he was fast as a streak, and no line player of recent years has shown more real ability.
Reserves Prepare (or
Strong Anderson Team
Confident that pure luck helped Eaton win Sunday, Engle's Reserves will stage an arclight practice in the South Tenth street park, Tuesday evening, in preparation for the game with Anderson Sunday. According to dope, the Reserves will
be running into formidable opposition. Included among the victories of the upstate team are a 75 to 0 defeat against For Harrison and a 21 to 9 trimming of the Marmon 34's, of Indianapolis. This does not worry the Reserves. Two players of exceptional merit will be Included in the Reserve line-up Sunday, but their names will not be divulged.

King Finds Long Needed Re
lief in Trutona After Other Medicines Failed.
BRAZIL, Ind., Nov. 11. "I have fouiid in Trutona the one medicine that has given me long looked-for and desired relief," John D. King. 815 West North street, said recently. Mr. Kin? was formerly a mine boss at the Monarch Mine and he is known to hundreds of miners in this vicinity. "For the past two years I've been suffering from rheumatism," he continued. "My stomach was out of shape, too. I had no appetite, eating very little of any food as 1 never got any satisfaction out of what I ate. I had the rheumatic pains all over my
body almost. Needless to say, I was very weak and felt all run down. 'I had tried a number of different medicines and treatments for my ailments but they didn't relieve me any at all. But Trutona has given me the relief I have so long needed. Why, I can eat a meal now and thoroughly enjoy it. Yes sir, glad to recommend Trutona."
Mr. King's is but one of thousands of cases where Trutona has given long
needed relief after other medicines
failed. If you are suffering from stomach, bowel or liv troubles, nervousness or the like, gi."j Trutona a trial today. Trutona is now being introduced and explained In Richmond at Clem Thistlethwaite's Drug Stores. Adv.
HEAVY H. S, LINE TO OPPOSE WARSAW
More determined than ever to finish the season in winning style, the Richmond high school football team, under the guidance of Coach Rock, will start a gruelling workout at the playgrounds Tuesday afternoon and will continue until Friday. Rain spoiled all chances for practice Monday, but Coach Rock held a "skull practice" which was about as benenclal as a pnysical practice. The guard positions on the Richmond line have been the weak spots in recent games and it is through these holes that the opposing backs
plunge. Credit should be given to Robinson and Nusbaum, both lightweights, who have been trying to plug the gap. It is probable that husky Dollins will be shifted to one of the guard positions in the Warsaw game, and Price to tho other guard. Both players weigh over 165 pounds and with the two tackles, Vogelsong and
Hoerner, coupled with Clark and Zut
temeister- on the ends and Russel astride the ball, a line averaging 160 pounds will oppose the Warsaw backs. The backfield in this case would compose Loehr and Motley at halves, with Emslie at quarter and Harding holding down full back. While the prices of copper In Japan shows an upward tendency, this Is said to be entirely due to the rapid reduction.
