GRAIN QUOTATIONS
WAGNER'S GRAIN LETTER CHICAGO, Oct. 17. Corn and --als higher on advance of 25 cents in hogs and upturn in Jaunary lard to $25.65. Firmness of cotton talk of light early winter corn movement due to large wheat receipts, and the weekly report of corn hardly in condition to crib yet. Most corn will require two weeks of cold weather. Many locals believe corn Is a long distance buy. Forecast is for fair and warmer. If lard continues to advance higher corn prices will result. If cotton sells at 40 cents and lard at 30 cents, the effect on corn can be estimated. CHICAGO GRAIN RANGE Furnished by E. W. WAGNER &. CO., 212 Union National Bank Buttering. Phone 1720. HAVANA, Oct. 17. Orders have been issued by the Cuban Naval general staff that the cruiser Cuba be held iu readiness to form part of the guard of honor escorting the body of Armado Narvi, late Mexican embassador to Uruguay and Argentint which is being conveyed to Vera Cruz oboard
the cruiser Uruguay. The Uruguay is expected to reach here soon, but the exact time has not been announced.
WAYNE RATE
(Continued from Page One)
The assessments were made some time ago. With the tax rate announc-
ed, each tax payer will now be able to determine the effect of the new tax system in his own case. "In counties previously announced, it has been found that the amount of taxes paid by many people will be less than under the old tax rates, notwithstanding the extraordinary costs of
the war period and extensive public j improvements, such as road building) and increased cost of schools," says j the state board announcement. "The j tax commissioners attribute such re- j suits to a fuller listing of taxables. to the inclusion of great amounts of intangibles that hitherto evaded assess-; ment successfully, and to a more even '
and just distribution of the tax burden.
