MALE QUARTET, FINAL NUMBER OF CONCERT SERIES, BEST IN COUNTRY

What is conceded by those -who I know to be the finest ensemble of ! men's voices to be heard in the entire ! United States, the Columbia Stellar i Male Quartet, will make its appear- j ance in this city as one of the attrac-, tions in the All-Star Popular Series I on the evening of April 16th. jA y There are a number of refiVjfls ; which make it easy to understand how j this organization has attained such j great popularity. In the first place. each of its four members has won distinction as a soloist of extraordinary n both from the vocal and artistic , standpoint. They have a!! four been : trained in the old Italian or bel canto i method, and their long association lias : f.erved to blend their separate perfections into one harmonious ensemble. : Last, but by no means least, is the fact that their programmes are so i carefully selected that anyone who has j the slightest love for music is sure to I find in them many things to his liking. i The tenor. Reed Miller, is known from coast to coast, wherever religious music finds a response. He is the leading oratorio singer in the T'nifed States, and is the only sinfrer who has ' ever been engaged to sing leading parts for ten successive seasons with ;

the New York Oratorio Society, addition. Reed Miller has been aged for a number of seasons to

critics last season with his proficiency on the violin, Charles Larrison, tenor, and Amparito Farrar, the beautiful young American lyric, who the boys of the A. E. F. declare the most pop

MURRETTE .A band or real Indians appears in ' Wagon Tncks," the new William S. Hart Artcraft picture which is on view at the Murrette theatre today. They attack a wagon train in the most thrilling manner but are only restrained from butchering the emigrants as a result of the bravery of one man and the forced sacrifice of a coward. The picture is well worth seeing.

Foulke read extracts from what

he termed the rubbish of some of the verse libre of today, one of the poems being "The Red Bridge." He said that after reading the poem he was unable to tell what the red bridge was.

SUGAR EXPECTED Although wholesale dealers are pro- j portioning among local retail merchants all the sugar which they can i obtain for Richmond, the sugar situation has become steadily worse, and Tuesday morning a majority of gro- j cers reported that they had no sugar1 , no molasses, and not much candy, j "Not until the beet sugar, which is I now nearly 2 weeks late, arrives, can i we look for any relief." said Elmer j Eggemeyer, Tuesday. Eggerneyer ex-' plained that shipments of cane sugar , west of the Alleghenies have been stopped in the hope that the east can 1 be supplied with the cane sugar on j hand, and that the beet sugar crop'

will come to the rescue of the west within a few days. "The situation is pretty bad throughout the country," he said. It can bo traced to foreign shipments, which, were made at a good price, before the demand of the United States was estimated," said Eggemeyer. Local wholesale dealers explain that they have been getting an occasional car load, but that a mere car load shipment amounts 10 nothing in the face of the terrific demand from every side. Jobbers are trying to supply every customer equally with what can be obtained, they say. Hotels and restaurants have been serving powdered sugar, lump sugar, pink tea sugar and other varieties when granulated was not obtainable, and molasses has been used for sweeteaing in many cares. Brown sugar has also been used

S.'01'TH BEN U, Ir.d. Oct. 15. League of nitionr or no league of nations, the people of Ireland want their freedom." said Eamonn DaVaiera. "President of the republic of Ireland." here Tufsday night. 'No league of nations that denies the right of the people of Ireland to free and untrammeled development among the nations of the earth, can held for long ihe eonfidence of the thinking people of the world, and it can not keep peace in Ireland. There will bo no peace until England withdraws her army of occupation or until the last vestige of patriotic spirit in Ireland has been murdered."
