CINCINNATI GOES WILD OVER WORLD CHAMPION REDS

CINCINNATI. Ohio, Oct. 10. Hilarious Cincinnati rose this morning to celebrate as a public holiday the triumphal return of the Reds from Chicago, where they won the baseball championship of the world yesterday from the Chicago White Sox. A proclamation calling on all citizens to observe the day as a public holiday from 8 o'clock until noon, had been issued by acting Mayor Carl Jacobs, and was widely observed, many business houses remaining closed. The proclamation urged all Cincinnati fans to be present at Fountain Square at 10 o'clock to pay homage to the world champions. Joy following the news of the winning of tbj world's eeries by the Cincinnati Nationals ran at flood tide last night, and whili impromptu processions formed and marched through all

sections of the city, representative

While in the salty depths the H-2 operated her radio telcjrraph, beinjr the enly submarine in the world, according to Lieut. HAMILTON FEARING LOCALS-SAYS BEAR STORY; ROOTERS GO Richmond Line-Up Hoi comb, R. E.; Vogelsong, R. T.; Price, R. G.; Russel, C; Zuttenneister, L. G; Hoerner, L. T.; Motley, L. E.; Emslie (capt) Q; Dollins, F. B.; Loehr. R. H.; Harding, L. H. Above are the men who will probably start the game for Richmond la Saturday's game with Hamilton. According to the Hamilton papers, Richmond has a great team and is expected to tear the Hamilton outfit into small pieces. This paper says that Richmond's center, Russel. is a huge player and for a pastime, tears up people smaller than himself. This may all be propaganda to stir up pep. Coach Rxck, at least, is expecting a hard battle. Any team that can trim Hughes High of Cincinnati, is more than capable of giving the local a little opposition. Trial Practice Today. Final practice for the squad will be held Friday afternoon, and consist of a light signal practice.. Following the practice, Coach Rock will hold a kull session. A pep meeting will be held in the auditorium, Friday morning and a large number of rooters, expected to accompany the team to Hamilton,

will make arrangements to go in a

body. New Castle is next on the R. H. S schedule, and the by word of the stu

dent body is "Trim Hamilton and

then beat New Castle."

SHANTUNG MAY BE BROUGHT UP EARLY

WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 Return to Washington next Tuesday to Senator j. Johnson. Republican, of California, from his western speaking tour in opposition to the league of nations, is considered by a number of Senators as involving the possibility of a speedy vole on the amendment to the Shantung provision of the treaty. Attempts of leaders to bring the Shantung amendment to a vote have failed of unanimous consent owing to the desire of Senator Borah, Republi

can, Idaho, and others to have the California senator back in Washington before the vote was taken. Pending the vote the program of the senate calls for more speeches on treaty subjects. Lloyd George Refuses to Consider Miners' Demand

LONDON. Oct. 10 From one labor

difficulty the government passes to

another. No sooner was the railway ;

men's wage crisis surmounted or deferred than the miners' demand for the nationalization of mines confronts the cabinet. Premier Lloyd George informed a deputation yesterday that the government was unable to adopt the proposals made by the coal commission headed by Sir John Sankey, and the miners are greatly dissatisfied. Frank Hodges, secretary of the miners' federation, said after the premier's statement at yesterday's conference that "the government's attitude had created a very grave situation," and the utterances of other labor men show they universally share this view.
