WOMAN'S CLUB TO RECONSIDER LEAGUE RESOLVE

Debates Held Over Resolution -Referred Back May be Sent to Senate.

Although a majority of the 220 women present at the lyncheon and business meeting of the Women's Departmental club Wednesday rose In favor of a resolution urging the speedy ratification of the League of Nations by the senate, a question was brought up before the vote of the "nos" could be taken, which finally resulted In a reconsideration of the motion. A special meeting will be called by Mrs. Paul Comstock, president of the club, at an early date for final action. Sponsers of the resolution included Mrs. Stephen Markley, who presented it. Miss Sarah Hill, Mrs. Paul Ross, Mrs. D. W. Dennis, Mrs. S. E. Smith, Mrs. Benjamin Johnson, Mrs. D. W. Scott, Mrs. A. W. Roach, Mrs. W. H. Romey and Mrs. Charles Bond. The resolution follows: "Whereae, We, the members of the Women's Departmental club of Richmond, Ind., believe that the controversy about the proposed League of Nations Is one of the most important that this nation has ever been called upon to decide, and the peace of the world is the legitimate interest of every woman In the world, whether mother, wife, sister or daughter of those who have been or may hereafter be called upon to hold their lives in sacrifice for a nation's freedow; and, Hope No More War. "Whereas, We hope that the sacrifices of this war may not have been in vain and that future generations may never be the victims of another such wanton attack against their peace; and, "Whereas. This League of Nations was produced in its present form after many months of earnest labor and conference by the representatives of twenty-seven nations, and the idea of a League of Nations has been the desire of many peoples, and upon it they have placed their hope that the Demon of War might be held in leash. "Therefore, Be It Resolved, That it is the sentiment of the members of this club that American's hope of peace for the future, as well as that of the rest of the world, can be more fully assured if the proposed League of Nations is successfully established, and we, therefore, pledge it our support and urge that it be speedily ratified by the senate of the United States." After the words of the resolution itself had been read before the club, Miss Sarah Hill addressed the women, quoting from Republican as well as Democratic, sources in its favor emphasizing her belief that America cannot retain her policy of selfish isolation, and that the league will not mean a participation in world wars, but their end. Miss Hill's speech In part follows: "In this the most critical period of our national history, when we have helped to win the world war, we are face to face with the danger of seeing the fruits of our agonized struggle Fwept from us and we left standing amid the wreckage in bordaee to the fear of the recurrence r. ;notlifr hell i:pon earth at some r.c far distant time. "To my mind the League of Nations is the onp hope of escape, so far as can be seen: nothing better has been offered us. When it has been ratified and is operative, it will show weak places here and there, just as our own constitution has done; and there wiU te wise men in the nation leagued together who will have broad enough vision to revise what has been found faulty, as our own statesmen have been doing during the past century rnd a half that we have been a federation. Henry Ford has pronounced history "bunk," but there is comfort i'ow in reading the struggle through which the writers of our constitution passed and the fight made against it by its pessimistic opponents. It has become the almost sacred foundation of our liberty. "In a club like this there will be clivers opinions, and there may be a number who have very real fears concerning the League. As a club, let us have no heart-burnings over any differences that may arise, for this association must mean education for every member. The thinking, reasoning process is vital. For the purpose of cultivating these we are banded together, and above all, our discussions must be conducted with perfect good temper r.nd with liberality and charity for the opinion of others. I have always felt that 'grown-ups' who will not so control their tempers should step down into the kindergarten class. Great Men Favor. "And. by the way. is it not under the circumstance that the President. ex-

President Taft, Root, Hughes. President Lowell and most of the men who are in favor of the League are able to make their statements about it, and present its claims. In very cool, dispassionate manner, which almost the entire opposition have treated with open contempt and ridicule the President of the United States They have stooped to personalities and thrown their dignity and courtesy to the winds. Free speech is the inalienable right of every American. The chief executive will always be in line for criticism, as Is right, where the criticism is just; but the tactic is a very poor flower of democracy, and speed the day when every American will elevate himself by treating with courtesy the President of our country, whether elected by his own party or by the opposition. "About the league Itself. Locally it was most unfortunate that it should have been presented in the form that it was by Senator Watson. He was committed to its opposition, and in fairness to the community the league should have had a supporter to debate the matter with him. Very few of us knew much about it; we sincerely wanted information; we filled the Coliseum. Senator Watson is popular with Wayne county Republicans. He gave us his interpretation, and most of us accepted it and have kept closed minds on the subject since, for few of us enjoy thinking for ourselves. It is easier to take what is handed to us In the line of thought. Appealed to Partisans. "His 'America for the Americans' brought down the house every time, and probably a majority went away with a feeling of enmity towards every one of the Allies, as well as towards our former enemies; and, further, we were impressed with the thought that we Americans are here by Divine right and hold our place against all others by that same right. The ghost of the kaiser walks in America. "America is a steward; she is a Samaritan; she has oil and coin (and 1 am glad to be obliged to omit wine from the quotation); it is her high

privilege to help the wonnded nan who fell among thieves. "A selfish woman Is a blot on creation; a selfish man is not quite eo unnatural, and a selfish nation Is an abomination, especially when it has been endowed as has America ith every good gift that God can bestow. "Service Is the slogan this time." Announcement was made before the club of a future club house for women in this city. Although this is still a dream, the chair mentioned the ultimate accomplishment of the plan in an optimistic way. Reports of the proposed activities of the various departments of the club were made, and the chair called attention to the convention of the state federation of clubs to be held in Kokomo October 21 to 24. Richmond's club is entitled to six delegates. Other members going- will be furnished credentials. Mrs. A. W. Roach will attend the convention officially, as acting president of the National War Mothers' organization.

One Way To Cultivate Smiles That Captivate

"Alas for the pretty girl who, when sha opens her mouth In a smile, gives a view of teeth more deplorable than the ruins of the Rhelms cathedral. Instantly she repels instead of attracting', and she has only the consolation she Is In no danger of being kissed." remarks the president of the National Mouth Hygiene Association. What a pity women generally are not more familiar with this feature of beauty culture. Consider that more than a hundred varieties of micro-organisms are found in the mouth! Is it any wonder so many have ugly teeth and gums, unsightly fillings, crowns and artificial teeth? Germs not only cause tooth decay but serious gum affections. Tooth and gum troubles generally can be avoided by regular brushing with Once-a-Week Tooth Polish because a polished tooth prevents decay, also because this product effectually removes from all teeth the obstinate fatty films under which germs accumulate. And this remarkable Once-a-Week Tooth Polish, which any druggist can supply, completely removes all discolorations. keeping the teeth beautifully white and sparkling. Adv.

It will bring back the joy of living and doing; give you rugged health, strength and restful sleep. If you are all run down, weak, thin or nervous, Phosphated Iron will build you up and make you feel like a live one; it never disappoints. Everyone Should Drink Hot Water in the Morning Wash away all the stomach, liver, and bowel poisons before breakfast.

To feel your test day in and day out, to feel clean inside; no sour bile to coat your tongue and sicken your breath or dull your head; no constipation, bilious attacks, sick headache, colds, rheumatism or gassy, acid stomach, you must bathe on the inside like you bathe outside. This is vastly more important, because the skin pores do not absorb impurities into the blood, while the bowel pores do. To keep these poisons and toxins well flushed from the stomach, liver, kidneys and bowels, drink before breakfast each day, a glass of hot water with a teaspoonful of limestone phosphate in it. This will cleanse, purify and freshen the entire alimentary tract before eating more food. Get a quarter pound of limestone phosphate from your pharmacist. It is Inexpensive and almost tasteless. Drink phosphated hot water every morning to rid your system of these vile poisons and toxins; also to prevent their formation. Adv.

3 Million Dollars but It bought MUSIC t No finer example of courage is known to the world of science than Thomas A. Edison's work in perfecting the phonograph. The skeptics rose m full ch orus when he proposed a better phonograph, an instrument "that could produce music as human as the artists who first gave it utterance." Mr. Edison's experiments exhausted the entire field of research in sound reproduction. He built and rebuilt until his final, perfected model cost him Three Million Dollars. And the result? Ask some one who attended the Amy Ellerman-Fleming Sisters recital Wednesday evening. There was the public proof. Miss Ellerman sang in comparison with the RECREATION of her voice by the New Edison. The Fleming Sisters Instrumental Trio played in comparison .with .the .RECREATION of their art by the New Edison. And no one could distinguish the living art from its RECREATION.

REED'S

BUILT THIS BUSINESS A few days ago a bride and groom came into our store to be shown thru, as they wished to furnish their new home. Of course, the salesman gladly did so and as a result sold them their outfit, and before leaving asked them what induced them most to come to "Reed's". This is the answer: "Well, we had thought of going elsewhere, but mamma has purchased everything for her home of you since you opened this store; and she has been so well pleased with the QUALITY, PRICES and SERVICE that we felt we could take no chances on going elsewhere." Of course, we felt highly elated, but frankly, we would have been disappointed with any other answer, because this is the end to which we constantly strive to please each customer to their entire satisfaction and make every transaction as important as tho our future business depended on that particular sale. Our prices, quality and sen-ice are the only reasons for this, together with our faith in the trade. That's the reason the trade have faith in us. We invite you to our store whether buying or not.
