Piano Dealers Charged With Profitering by Londoners; Big Advance (By Associated Press) LONDON. Sept. 26 Profiteering in Jianos is the latest complaint of the people of London, the claim being made that a piano which before the war sold for $160 now costs $275. One firm, according to a leader in the retail trade, has advanced its price fully 100 per cent while others have added 60 per cent to the selling price of their best instruments. "We are charging $400 for nondescript pianos" said one dealer, which before the war we sold for $150. The cheapest upright pianos made by one firm now sells for $500, before the war it brought $225. A baby grand is today $1,050; before the war it was $420. Another model of a grand is $1,175 and in pre-war days it was $475. And the net cash price to the retailer is $575. "Any order that I give is accepted according to the fluctuations in the wage rate and moreover whether wages go up or not the price of pianos goes up every month."

British Railway Leaders Held Conference Today (By Associated Press) LONDON, Sept. 26 It is impossible to forecast the result of the negotiations in the railroad dispute which will reopen at noon today and there is a possibility that a strike may be called at midnight tonight but the outlook is more hopeful than it was 24 hours ago. It is the consensus of opinion among newspapers that yesterday's conferences helped to clear away misunderstandings and tended to create a ground for agreements Members of the executive committee of the national union of railway men refused to make a statement last night but individual delegates, speaking unofficially showed a cheerful and hopeful spirit although one said: "We are still a long way from the end."

CHILEAN STRIKE SETTLED.

VALPARAISO. Sept. 26. The shipping strike which has interfered seriously with marine activities out of Chilean ports has been settled by arbitration. Other labor disputes throughout the country are also reported to be in a fair way towards settlement, the tramway men and the workmen in sugar refineries having already reached an agreement with their companies.
