REDS PUT OVER DECIDING GAME AGAINST GIANTS
Cincinnati Wins League Championship From Giants in Tuesday's Game. CINCINNATI, Sept. 17. After one of the most sensational climbs ever made by a National league club, Cincinnati copped the deciding game from the Giants, and made the Reds the National league champions for 1919. Walter Reuther had Just enough stuff, so that -with airtight support, he managed to put the deciding game of the season In Red win column. Reuther managed to tighten up when it became necessary, and twice a Giant rally was sidetracked. The Reds have just seven more games to play, all of them here, and regardlea of what might happen, they will face the White Sox in just two weeks. They have already won 92 games, and are ten full games ahead of the Giants, who have only eleven more games to play.' The Reds started the race that really put them in line for the championship when they defeated New Tork four games in six on their last eastern trip, and to wind up, finally, all argument over possible winners, by defeating the contenders, la a fitting climax. Three men figured in yesterday's game, who have piloted the Reds. Hank O'Day, arbiter of the bases, led the team in 1912: Christy Mathewson, who led the Giants In their final fight was the Red manager In 1917, but the work of those two is entirely eclipsed by that of P. J. Moran, who Is the first man since 1882 to put the Reds over the top. The team rests Wednesday and opens Thursday with a three game peries against Brooklyn. The team and fans will celebrate Groh's birthday. Tuesday's score: New York 200 100 0003 12 2 Cincinnati 800 000 lOx 4 8 0 Tony, Nehf and Gonzales; Ruether and Rariden. CLARK GRIFFITH LIKES CHANGES OF WHITE SOX IN WORLD'S SERIES
Clark Griffith has come in early with his world series prediction to avoid the rush. "To begin with," said Griffith, recently, "I have never seen the Reds play this season. I know some of the older men and know what they can do. I do know the White Sox and I know what they can do. I have had practical demonstrations of what they can do. The White Sex have every essential of a championship baseball team. They have a whirlwind attack, a wonderful defence, and every move they make is cirected by keen baseball brains. "There Is no fluke about the position of the White Sox. It Is true that the Tigers had a bit of tough luck in the start of the season, but jut the : same ine cauaj-jo i.am is a it-ai, u.uvwi i ... , - 1 ,....u ill me gia-.b llU-. Thfv lnnil tlio lpsEriift in hittine. base-ruEciny, scoring runs, extra base hits and everything else. When they set -the highest standards in those things by which champions are measured we can only conclude that they are champions. Are Ball Killers. "Just a take their hatting order first. Nemo Leibold is a lead off man of tho type. He is hard to pitch to ?nd has a good eye. If the balls are bad lie won't take a cut at them. I they are In he is as liable to crack it for two or three as ho 13 to get a single. Then there is Eddie Collins. Collins is about the greatest second sacker that the game ever produced. He is a great hit and run man; or he can, I stand in and slug. You know a good. i hit and run player does not smash the j I ball when that rU'.y is on. lie meets' I the ball and punches it. Collins can I jun the bases too. ' "Then there i? no less a person than j Buck Weaver. Buck is about as good as Collin.". I think he is the greatest third baseman in the world today. .He ; can go and get a ball, he can throw j has fine hands and is smart. i Then comes Joe Jp.rkpon. Jackson j is hittin.. 250, and is liable to bust one clean out of the lot. Happy Felsch is I hitting about .260 now, but he is a ; dangerous factor. Chick Gandil is a fhard bitted and is playing wonderful bell right now. Don't let any shallow skulls tell you that Chick is not a good player. "It has been said," continued Griff, "that if it were not for Eddie Cicotte snd Claude Williams the Sox would ! be nowhere. Perhaps that is right. ' but you can take it from me that if it ! were not for the White Sox Cicotte and Williams might not be anywhere. Never Step Fighting. When a pitcher can go in there and know he has the sort of team that if the opposition makes three runs his mob will make four it gives him the heart to do big things. That Is the , type of men the White Sox are. They never stop fighting. j "Defensively the Sox are marvels and nothing iess. I am going to tell you something now that may surprise you." said Griff earnestly. "I am going to tell you that Happy Felsch is the greatest center fielder in baseball. NATIONAL LEAGUE
"I know there Is Speaker, I know all about Speaker; he is a great ball player, but he is not one whit better than Felsch, and I think that Felsch is just a bit better than he. Mind you, I am talking of defensive work now. It 13 practically impossible to liit a ball over Felch's head. He is a ball falcon in fielding the ground hits, and he has one of the fhost marvellous arms that ever swung from a mau's shoulder. "Now, as I said In the first place, I don't know much about the Red3. They are certainly the best team in the National league, for they have proved it. Pat Moran deserves a lot of credit for the work he has done. He may win the big battle, but I have told you what he will have to face." RAZOR TRUST ORGANIZED (By Associated Pressi NEW YORK, Sept. 17. Formation of the American Safety Razor corporation, a combination of the Gem, EveryReady and Star companies, which it is said will control 90 per cent of the dollar safety razor business of the world, was announced here today. The new company is capitalized at $20,000,000. The largest yield of bone from a single whale was taken in 1SS3, and amounted to 3,110 pounds. iBcgaact--BaBiaEg!m

Children are great Bread eaters, and they can cat as much as they like and it will not hurt them for it is a body builder. Generous slices of bread with good butter and occasionally jam is a wholesome food for the kiddies as is bread and milk, for it gives to the young and old the nutritive power needed by the human body. Close second to bread and butter and bread and milk comes toast. Served dry or buttered hot is a great meal for one's breakfast, toast served with hot milk is a nourishing and tempting dish for the convalescent.

Independents Will Meet Wednesday for Practice; Brown is Chosen Captain Brown, former captain of the Muncle Avondales, independent football team of that city, will act as captain of the Engles' 828 Army Reserves, the name chosen for the local independent football team, at its last meeting. Team Manager Taylor has announc - ed a meeting to be held in the Y M. C. A. at eight o'clock, Wednesday evening. Chalk talks will be given. ! and styles of play and business affairs of the squad, will be mapped out. Earlhcm to Have Heavy Line This Year Mctve Stages First Scrimmage Earlham pigskin chasers had their first taste of the real game in Thursday evening's practice at Reid field. Coach Mowe divided the squad and put his charges through a stiff Bcrimmage for about a half an hour, in addition to their usual workout. Mowo is greatly pleased with the prospects for the team, especially in weight. All of the men who are trying for the team have plenty of "heft" and the line will probably average over 175 pounds. Considerable attention will be paid by the coach to the back field, and every effort will be made to get the backs drilled into condition for the first game. The squirt has been ordered to practice five niehts a week.

Taylor's A. Manager Vigran is in Cincinnati, and will probably arrange for Sunday's contest. The Marmon's 34's, one of the fastest ball teams in Indiana, tried some time ago to book a game and may play here. Hasrerstown demands a game with the Quakers, but it is not likely that their demands will receive attention. Only two more games will be played by the Quakers, as a carnival will occupy Exhibition park, beginning Sept. 2?, for the week and Sunday, Sept. L'S, will close the baseball season in Richmond. Sei. 17 While "disturbing" reports were being received concerning the chairmanship of th National commission la which Judge Landis of Chicago was mentioned a3 a successor to Chairman Herrmann. Mr. Herrmann, president of the National League pennant winning club, seemed not at all Interested and spent a quiet evening with friends, following the victory of the Cincinnati team over the Gianta yesterday. "It's a great day for Cincinnati. We won the pennant with the best team in the league. Pat Moran deserves a world of credit, as do all the" players. I do not want to mention the world's series till I recover from the joy due to winning tho pennant," Mr. Herrmann said. Program Is Planned. "In recognition of the extraordinary work done by the Cincinnati club, the Chamber of Commerce has planned an elaborate program as a tribute to the players. September 27 is the day set for the testimonial, when the Chicago Cubs will be the opponents at Redlaad field. "Take it from me, a great strain Is over", said Manager Moran of the Reds. "1 am proud of my boys; they
fought every inch of the Journey and did not put on the brakes for an instant. I do not want to make a prediction on the world's series, but I can assure the fans that the Reds will play the same kind of ball against the White Sox as they did in the National league, and I think that brand will win anywhere." Moran was accorded a fine demonstration when the game with the Giants -was over. Nearly all the New York players congratulated Moran.
