Victory Today Means Championship New York Loses Qpener, 3 to 0. CINCINNATI, O., Sept. 16. One more mighty effort, for the Reds have but to win today's game from New York, and they may be proclaimed the champions of the oldest Major baseball organization. Yesterday's work, -which ended In a 3 to 0 victory for the Reds, put. the snuffer down tight. Pat Duncan, one of the youngest
members of the Red outfit, stepped into the limelight again, and after making four timers in the second, and put the game on ice, he drew a walk with the bases full In the fifth, thereby adding another tally to the already i victorious score. Slim Sallee had it on the Giants at all stages, and his support was perfect, Kop's slight boot being at a time when no difference in the final score could result. Benton, on the other hand flew to the heavens In the fifth round, and after filling the bases on hits .allowed two passes, and two runs. Hope Victory Today. Monday's game, which was played before a record Monday crowd, showed
plainly just why the Reds are out in front of the league and although McG raw's men played good ball .they could not put up the class that the Cincinnati aggregation showed. The final result of yesterday's contest made it all the more probable that the Reds will come through with another victory today and put Cincinnati among the famous cities of the baseball world. The Reds are now nine games in front, and the fans are clearing their throats for the hearty cheer that will mark the close of the race, with Cincinnati first across the wire. The Giants have practically admitted their defeat, and are already pulling for the Reds to win from Chicago in the big aftermath event. McGraw did not appear In uniform in Monday's game, and left last night for New York, putting Mathewson In charge. And here's the reason: NEW YORK ... 000 000 0000 7 1 CINCINNATI ... 010 020 003 7 1 Benton, Dubuc, Ryan and Gonzales; Sallee and Rariden.

Manager Yigran was in Cincinnati Tuesday and there is a probability of a game with some fast team from that rity. if the A. B. C.'s are not scheduled. The Goldes, one of the best teams traveling from Cincinnati, tried for a game with the locals earlier, but the Quakers had no open date. The Goldes, Alexons, Potters' Tramps and Oakley teams are mentioned by Vigran. Lee Dehner. the star left fielder of th Quakers and whose presence was missed from the line-up In Sunday's game, has written Vigran that owing to some oysters he had eaten Saturday night, and which made him very sick, he was unable to get to Richmond Sunday.

The Corset that Shapes and Stays
The corset is a beneficent auxiliary to Nature. It enables the woman to express herself in the figure she chooses to be. It is all nonsense for great editors and other male critics to tell women that they should "be satisfied with the natural figure which God gave them" or didn't. For men themselves are not so satisfied. The difference between the tall, angular, skinny man before and after the tailor shapes his coat, is the difference between being presentable and being an eye-sore. Those square athletic shoulders, ladies, which you so admire in the man psh! they're tailor-made !
It is genuine economy for the woman to buy a good corset. A very sensible Miss Richmond expresses it this way : "I pay a little more than I did for my corset now. I found that the corsets I used to buy
were taking my shape instead of holding their own. The reverse of this is now
happening the
better corset stays as I bought it and my shape is constantly that of the corset. Besides, itjasts a year, while I used to buy two or three corsets during the year." There is an almost ideal merchandising relation between the woman who buys and the woman who sells the corset. The saleswoman usually a "perfect 36" is in herown person, able to show the buyer, then and there, how her special corset looks, acts and wears. She will recommend the soft, pliable corset to the athletic woman, the stiff but graceful one to the tailored woman, and the light, dainty one to the dancer. The manufacturer of corsets is also talking to the corset-buyer through the PALLADIUM listen to him, ladies. These men are investing their capital, experience and time in improving the American woman's figure; in consider
ing her comfort, appearance and purse heed their advice before you buy any corset. In other words
