Governors Offer Aid to Mitchell and Wilson in Fighting High Prices. WASHINGTON. Aug. 30. Impetus ras given to the government's campaign to reduce the cost of living at a conference today at which the closest co-oneration between Federal and
etate authorities wa assured. I Six governors, Gardner, of Missouri; Milllken. of Maine; Burnquist, of Minnesota; Campbell, of Arizona; Sproul. of Pennsylvania, and Cooper, of South Carolina, and Lieutenant Governor McDowell, of Montana, representing the National Conference of Governors, passed several hours studying the situation with Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer and called at the White House to offer to President Wilson the full machinery of the states in the effort to restore a normal price level. Expect Quick Results As a result, there was greater loptimism in the capital today over the outlook than had been evident In a number of days. With the far-reaching state organizations carrying the message of economy and increased production Into every county and aiding the Federal authorities in bringing to Justice
hoarders and profiteers, officials believed excellent results could be obtained in the next 30 days which would avert the menace of transportation utrlkes to obtain higher wages.

Why Pash Out Clutch
When Starting Motor? A good many people ask thi Ques
tion, "What's the use of pushing out
the clutch when you start your motor, as long as the shift lever is in neutral and there is practically no load on the
engine?" The question sounds like a
logical one but as a matter of ract u is based on a wrong supposition. There Is really a considerable load on the engine. Just on account of the shaft and gears that must be turned. Just try this test if you want to 6ee how much this load amounts to. Turn your engine over by hand some morning with the clutch in. Then hav someone hold the clutch pedal down, or fasten it down with blocks and try it again. If you turn the engine over rapidly you'll see that there is quite a difference and the lead is much greater when the engine spins at the rate the starting motor turns it. It pays to keep in mind the fact that thickened oil has a very definite braking action and this action is very greatly lessened when you push down on your clutch pedal.

After Bleinheim he received the Manor of Woodstock in the park of which Blenheim palace was erected.
