If They Break Even, Giants Must Win Twenty-tour and Lose Five. YORK, Pa., Aug. 29. With Heinle Groh at the head of the team, the Cincinnati Reds won favor in tha

hearts of the local baseball fan3 here Thursday afternoon, in spite of the fact that they defeated a local semipro team, 8 to 1. Oroh's custom of putting in the entiro regular line-up to start the game, and allowing them to play three or four Innings before sticking la subttitutes, has been very pleasing. Following New York's dismal defeat Thursday afternoon at Philadelphia, the Reds are now in the same relative position with New York as they were when they started on their three day layoff Wednesday. With a full nine game lead, and the team playing in true championship style, it will have to win only three fourths of the remaining games to clinch, no matter what kind of a support the Giants take. If the Reds win 19 more games this peason, there can be no possible chance for the Giants to overtake them. With only 29 more games to play, the Giants have already lost 41, whereas the Reds, by losing six of their remaining 25 games, wiil be a full game ahead of New York at the end of flje season. Following is a table showing how the teams will have to play to change the standing at the end of the season.

For the Giants to win they will have

In the last game of the regular schedule of the S. A. L., at Exhibition park, Saturday at 1:30 p. m., the Starrs and Robinsons, and Seeders and Wayne Works, will clash. It is thought the leading teams will be able to defeat their opponents, but if one of them wins while the other loses, things will be simplified. If the leaders win Saturday, and both win again on September 6r when a postponed game is scheduled, 'a special game will have to be played to decide the championship of the S A. L., as the two teams are tied. Both of the tailcnd teams are considerably strengthened and ther.e is a likelihood of the dope being rudely upset, for they will both try hard. Ceeder Fans Depressed. The attendance at. the games has

been slim lately. When the A. S. M. team was going good, with Hawekotte and Haas as a battery, large crowds of Seeder rooters would turn out to see their team win, but since the loss of the star battery the spirit has been taken out of them. The Seeders still have a good team and are capable of giving the Starrs a run for their money, as was demonstrated in the last two games, and if the Seeder fans would turn out and root for them, the Seeders would play wicked ball. The fact that four of the Starr team play on the Richmond Quakers is also very depressing to the Seeder rooters, who say the Starrs have the only club in the league. In Saturday's game, Bulldog Run-
