raaae ine mistake of passing the first two men, Logan and Dehner. Logan stole third. Logan proceeded to pull a double steal with Dehner, scoring the first run of the game, Dehner going to second. One run wasn't enough so Hill clouted a long two bagger to deep center, scoring Dehner. After these two runs Jordan tightened, and got the next three men. Dayton tried to tie the count in the fourth, when Wiesel singled, but H. Jordan, trying to sacrifice, forced Wisael at second whereupon Hudson hit into a double play, Minner to Logan to Holmes. Bases Full; No Runs. In the Quaker half of the fourth it began to look as though they were going to annex several runs, for Cooney singled, Fitzgibbons got on through an error and Minner given a free ticket filling the bases with none down. Reddinghaus tried hard, but his best effort was three strikes, and all Logan could do as to pop a little fly to the pitcher. Cooney roosting on third grew tired of the performance and tried to steal home, but was out a mile. In the fifth, Dayton again threatened. After Tavenor grounded to Holmes Kavanaugh singled and went to third on Renssenzehn's hit to right. RensBenzehn stole second, and Minner, trying to fan Jordan, walked him instead, which made three on and the head of Dayton's batting order facing him. Pete put on smoke and fanned Malthy and Sherry popped to Reddinghaus. Richmond came right back in the fifth after Dehner and Holmes had fanned. Hill hit one to center, stole second and scored on Coonye's bingle. The score: Dayton Ab. R. H. O. A. E. Malthy, ss 3 0 0 2 4 0 Sherry, 3b 3 0 0 3 2 0 Wissel, If 3 0 0 1 0 0 H. NEW YORK SPORTS WRITERS CONCEDE PENNANT TO REDS

PHILADELPHIA. Pa., Aug. 25. With seven and one-half games to the good, sport writers, fans and players are generally conceding to Pat Moran and his crowd of Reds, the title of league champs for the season of 1919. The Reds have just 28 more games to play, and if they win 20 of these games, not much except a dissolution of the National league can keep them from winning. This. however, will not be necessary, for the Giants, with 31 games to play, would have to win every game in order to pull out ahead of the Redlegs. That the Reds have practically won the pennant is even admitted by NewYork writers, following Saturday's results, when the Giants were trimmed while the Reds took a pair from Pniladelphia. If the Reds win only half of their remaining games, and they have been playing at on .800 clip on their eastern trip, the Giants will have to win 28. The Reds wind up their series at Philadelphia today with a double bill, and with Eller and Ruether slated for the pitching end of the Reds' lineup, ihe games stand a good chance of dropping into the win column. Both Cincy pitchers have had much needed rests and are in the best condition for the game. Eppa Rixey will start the first game for the Phillies, but there is some doubt as to who will do honors in the other contest Hogg and Smith are the only available slabmen on Cravath's list. Following the Philadelphia series, the Reds come back to Pittsburg, and from there start another series on the home lot. Unless bad luck overtakes the team in the next five games, they will return with their lead in the National league greatly strengthened, and the hardest series of the season behind them.

Centerville Gets Pennant Bee; Wins From Reserves of Conner sville, 4 to 0 CENTERVILLE, Ind., Aug. 25. In the best game of ball seen here this season, Centerville defeated the strong ConnersvilleReserves Sunday, by a 4 to 0 score: Sturm, pitching for Centerville, was backed by brilliant support, and was able to hold the Reserves to 3 hits, of the scratch variety. Centerville got to McCarthy in the first inning and pounded 2 runs off his delivery. In the seventh inning they annexed 2 more. Judging from Centerville's record it seems that they are entitled to a game with the Quakers to decided the championship of Wayne county. Such a game would prove of great interest to the fans. The largest crowd of the season turned out for the game and they were well pleased. Centerville has no game booked for next Sunday as vet. R. H.E. Joe Jackson and his load. Although the outfield of the Chicago White Sox averages up well in hitting:, it has been a disappointment to the Chicago fans. Two years ago three members of it were traveling in the charmed circle. Joe Jackson, Kddie Murphy and Happy Felsch were hitting over .300. John Collins and Nemo Leibold were weak, but rested on the bench most of the time. This season it was hoped that the Sox gardeners would hit their old stride and do the lion's share in wrecking the hopes of ihe other A. L. clubs. Jackson is hitting harder than ever, but Felsch, Collins and Leibold have failed to strike a fast pace.
