Ameltia Galli-Curci,, the famous opera singer who appeared in Richmond some time ago. is co-starred in one cf the series of pictures the title of which is "The Madonna of the Slums." Some of the other stars who appear in the productions follow: David Belasco, who has succesfully produced more tharuOO plays, Daniel Frohman. pocket, a safe-cracker owing two years to San Quentin prison, who finds refuge with his pal, Dominie, in Winnicrest Hall when he is believed to be the long absent master of the house Dick Castleman, only to be exposed by his pal when Dominie hears ot his engagement to Jean Logan, obliging him to reveal himself as the real Dick Castleman and to explain that his deception was practised for the purpose of bringing back the lost soul of his pal, Harold Lockwood has a most colorful role in a picture which it is believed will be numbered among the most succesful vehicles he has ever had. "Pals First" is a picturized version of the stage success of the same name prepared by Lee Wilson Dodd from the novel by Francis Perry Elliott, published by Messrs. Harper and Brothers. In the cast, as support to Mr. Lockwood, appear Ruby de Rerr.er, James Lackaye, Richard R. Neill, Anthony P. Byrd, Pauline Dempsey, Frank de Vernon, Walter P. Lewis and Rollo Lloyd. Edwin Carewe directed the picture. As Danny Rowland, the hero, Lockwood does the best work of his brilliant career. Only an actor of the most finished abilities could have essayed this light, romantic, spirited role of a rogue and a gentleman, and kept his audience in sympathy with the character. His sense of comedy is equal to the finest in the history of the screen, a talent, which, coupled with his romantic gifts, places him far above the run of most stars.

MURRAY When a millionaire marries a girl whose father Is bankrupt, he ought to have a pretty good hunch that she likes his "dough" as much as his personality especially when she has already turned him down at a previous proposal. In "The Rescuing Angel," a new Paramount picture starring Shirley Mason, Miss Mason plays the role of Angela, the girl who is caught in just such a peculiar situation. To cap the climax, a boyish lover whom she cared for but had to discard for a man with money, resented her attitude, and to prevent her marying his rival explains to the rival that the girl wanted to marry him merely for his money. The boy didn't know, however, that the marriage bad already taken nlare.

One might sav the noor fish should

have known that it was his money that j she wanted, and not him, and should

not nave had to be told that by a mere

boy. But wait a minutemaybe one would be wrong and perhaps the girl did love him. Maybe in the beginning she didn't even know that she loved him, but discovered it afterwards. If you want to find out all about it see "The Rescuing Angel" at thee Murray theatre today. MURRETTE ' Elsie Ferguson, the beautiful Artcraft star, has a superb photoplay in "His Parisian Wife," her latest starring vehicle written by Eve Unsell and directed by Emlle Chautard, and which is shown at the Murrette theatre today. Miss Ferguson plays the part of a girl reporter of Paris and the role is said to afford her ample opportunities for the display of her rich dramatic talents. As Fauvette, Miss Ferguson weds a Boston lawyer whose parents refuse to recognize her as their daughter-in-law, and their hostility toward her, based upon a complete misunderstanding of her nature, leads to a separation from her husband. The eternal triangle enters into the story later with happy results, for the brie and her husband are reconciled after the former has won her spurs as a novelist of rare powers. The storyis one of unusual interest and deep heart appeal and its development to a logical denouement is accomplished without a jarring note. David Powell is the leading man. WASHINGTON Harold Lockwood has the most congenial role of his brilliant career as Danny Rowland in "Pals First," a six act Screen Classics, Inc., production, distributed by Metro, which opened at the Washington Theatre yesterday. As Danny Rowland, a thief, a pick-
