THIRTEEN LUCKY FOR REDS; SHUT OUT SUPERBAS
Hod Eller Holds Brooklyn to Two Hits, While Leaders Fttten Batting Averages. GIANT-RED STANDING. W. L. Pet. Wln-IF-Lose 'Reds 63 30 .677 .681 .670 Giants . 58 30 .659 .663 .651 CINCINNATI. O., Aug. 8. Pat Moran and his noble athletes, gave Brooklyn a slight idea of the inside workings of a championship baseball club Friday afternoon -when Hod Eller. and eight assistants shut the Superbas out to the score of 13 to 0. The Reds scored thirteen runs, but any one of these -would have been sufficient for Eller, who allowed only two hits.
So far as Brooklyn was concerned, they might Just as well have taken third base into the dugout. And while Eller was doing this, the rest of the boys stepped out and strengthened their batting average by sixteen good sound hits. Hod himself, assisted by Greasy Neale, led the bitting procession, both men getting three safties In four times at bat. One of Neales drives was for two bases. Phillies Are Next. Thursday's game winds up the series with Brooklyn, with a two to one count for the Reds. Friday, Pat's chargers start against the Phillies, who come to Redvllle with a record of seven wins In eight games. The Giants got busy and copped a contest for themselves in Thursday's game, and move on to Chicago for Friday, where they will give battle to the third-placers. The Cubs are far behind the league leaders, but are strong enough to give Protest John and his cohorts something to worry about. Sherwood Magee played in Thursday's game, and probably will relieve Bressler in the garden for good, as Manager Moran is trying to get the Rube back into pitching form in time for the Red's next Journey east. I Jeffries and Corbett have looked I him over from the standpoint of two (great heavyweights who have been ' through the mill. Jeffries Is imj pressed with Lincoln's massive build . and great strength two attributes
that made Jeffries a powerful fighter. Corbett is impressed with Lincoln's light-footedness and general speed despite his massive build. Together they have decided he is the logical man Just now to risk his Jan and other parts of his anatomy in the ring with Dempsey. As to the Time Jeffries wants the fight staged not earlier than Thanksgiving which will give them five months in which to teach Lincoln the fine points of the same and condition him especially for ring work. As 10 Lincoln's age. The movie booklets don't publish such personal facts. He looks to be still on the sunny side of thirty-five, however, which is younger than the late lamented Willard was. vOf course, the whole ding-busted business may be a neat press agent yarn, but Lincoln has the size and build to set the boys a-talking. And it gives the fans at least one new name to mention in their fanning bees about the new champ and his future.

Indianapolis Confident Of Winning Sunday Game
That Richmond will have some real opposition in Sunday's game is the opinion expressed by J. W. Brown, manager of the Indianapolis All-Stars, who are to play here Sunday, In a letter sent to Sam Vigran, local manager. The Indianapolis ball-tossers come here with a big reputation and they expect to give Richmond a trimming, says the letter, but Sam says he expects to send them home with the small end of the score. A large crowd is expected.

f; ARE WELL MATCHED, ;i STATISTICS SHOW pS- NEW YORK. Aug. 8. How far the J?' . Giants and the Reds outclass the rest .ftbs of the jajonai league teams and how evenly these two teams are matched "2, i may be seen by a glance at the . tables which follow, showing the of409 fenslve and defensive strength of the R6 1 teams- ' Since the season began they have
p . 1 averaged 1.1 runs more per game ,, : than their opponents. The Giants
rhow up better on the attack than the Reds, but the Cincinnati hurlers
on the other hand are better than
the Giant moundsmen so that there is
little to choose between the two
teams so far as the figures show. The Giants have been whitewashed Just twice during the season once by Pittsburg and onco by the Reds. Cincinnati has been shut out three times. The Giant pitchers have registered six shutouts, while the Cincinnati boxmen have held their opponents runIpss fourteen times three of their shutouts having been recorded during the past week. It. must be taken into consideration that the Giants have strengthened their staff to a large extent through the acquifition of Douglass and Nehf
i and from now on they will probably
hold their opponents in closer check than they have during their games to date. On the other hand it might be well to note that the Reds are showing a slow but sure Improvement both on the attack and in the defense. A month ago the average number of runs scored per game by their opponents was 3.3, while the average number of runs scored by the Reds was 4. A month ago the Giants were averaging 4.6 runs per game while their opponents were averaging 3.7. The table follows: Ave. runs per game. Shutouts For. Against For Ag'st. By N. E. BROWN A new asDirant for the heavv-weieht
It is none other than Elmo Lincoln, mighty man of the moving picture world. According to a story from California, Lincoln has challenged Jack Dempsey to a battle for the title the bout to take place next winter just like that. The men back of Lincoln In his
plan are James J. Jeffries and James J. Corbett. They have offered to train the movie star for the bout and Jeffries has placed his ranch near Eurbank, Cal., at Lincoln's disposal as a training quarters. Lincoln is familiar to movie fans because of his work In serials and in the "Tarzan" pictures, namely, "Tarzan of the Apes" and "The Romance of Tarzan." But fipht fans haven't had any occasion to become acquainted with him. So here's a little dope about the gentleman. Physicians Praise Him He is six feet tall. He weighs 185 pounds. Physicians have pronounced him a remarkable physical specimen.
The predominating feature about him is the development of his shoulders and che6t. Their abnormal 6ize give him the appearance of a veritable giant. He is an all-round athlete as well as a thorough sportsman. He owns a large kennel of show dogs at Grantwood, N. J.
His wonderful strength Is appar
ent in his pictures.
Tarzan pictures, for instance, gives him a chance to show that. As Tarzan he is a sort of ape-man. He swings around in the trees, leaping from branch to branch. In climbing trees he frequently
leaps up, grasps a limb with one hand

No building is any better than its roof for the roof plays the most important part in protecting the contents of the building. The roof gets all
the wear of .the weather; the hot rays of the summer sun, the pelting
rains of autumn, the driving sleet of winter, the melting snows of spring.
So, make those new buildings good by covering them with Ru-beroid. ,
will not soften nor ooze oil under the fiercest rays of the tropic sun. It is leak-proof in fact, you may soak it in water for months without its being in any way affected. It will not crack or become brittle in belowzero weather nor will the wet snows of early spring penetrate its tough coating of asphalt composition. Ru-ber-oid, when properly laid, lies flat and will not "pull", it will not
sweat nor corrode through from the underside (as metal will), it will wear as long as, and is far less
a
expensive than a shingle roof. But do not confuse Ru-ber-oid with other ready-roofings. There are many that look like it, feel like it, and seem like it in every way, but they are not like it. There is only one Ru-ber-oid, and that has been made for the last quarter century by The Standard Paint Company, the pioneer manufacturers of prepared roofings. We would be glad to tell you more about Ru-ber-oid Roofing. We al
ways hare it in stock. Phone us today for samples and prices.
There is but one Ru-ber-oid. The Standard Paint Company makes it.
