The city is in the arms of a storm, and she cannot leave. So she makes the best of the situation, and finds her interest and her sympathy aroused by the wbolesomene&s and the charm of her host. They dine together. He gives her his bath slippers in exchange for her drenched evening pumps: and soon finds that he is falling in love with his visitor. It is not long before he discovers that his affection is returned; but so bantering is his guest's manner that he believes she, too, is playing with him. And when her father finds her at the house, she learns that it is he who has cheated her Westerner of his honest deserts. But facts are distorted, and she is made to believe that she is the victim, not the heroine of an adventure.
