FORD TAKES STAND FOR SECOND WEEK

Boys Try to Hold Up Indianapolis Police CUT Associated Press) INDIANAPOLIS. July 21 After haivlng threatened to shoot a patrol-

man two thirteen-year-old boys caught In a shooting gallery were arrested

here early today. Two policemen

heard a noise In the gallery room, and

entered. The boys were behind a

screen, and pointing two rifles at the

patrolman near them demanded he throw up hie hands. ' The ' policeman

shot Into the floor, at which the boys

dropped the rifles they held and surrendered. They are In the detention

home.

Burglars Sunday night or early to

day broke Into a store at 407 West Washington street by, entering an adjoining store room and then cutting a large hole through the wall of the

building. A safe was blown open, but

a small compartment containing sev

eral thousand dollars was not broken Into, although a hole In the door had been filled with explosives.

MANSFIELD MINER8 STRIKE

LONDON, July 21 As a protest against the Increase of six shillings In

the price of coal, which came Into ef

fect today following the refusal af the

miners' federation to accept a compromise on the wage and other Ques

tions, thousands of miners in the Mansfield district of Nottinghamshire

refused to go down into the pita this

morning.

A hot-water heating plant has been invented for houses without cellars

or other one-etory structures.

Body of Murdered French

Sergeant Home from Berlin PARIS. July 21. The body of Serge

ant Paul Mannheim, of the French army, who was murdered In Berlin on July 13, arrlvsd In Paris at 5 o'clock this morning.

The French government recently sent a note to Berlin demanding 1,000.000 franca indemnity for the

murder of Sergeant Mannheim and an

additional sum to Mannheim's family.

Germany. In reply. resDODJPPQQ Germany, in reply, refused to pay the

indemnity, but pointed out that in the apology forwarded before receipt of the French note Germany had agreed

to recompense the family of the mur

dered soldier. The German govern

ment added that if France was not

satisfied with the offer Germany was

willing to leave the matter to a mixed

court of arbitration.

Mysterious Disappearance

of Six Hundred Quarts TERRB HAUTE, Ind., July 21. After two painters, arrested for having liquor In their possession.' told the police that they had stolen twenty-two quarts from the cellar of Demas Dem-

lng, president of the First National bank here today, the police obtained a search warrant for the palatial Demlng residence. They returned in half an hour and reported they could find no liquor. The painters told the police they had taken the twenty-two quarts from a stock of six hundred quarts in the Doming cellar.

ANGLIN FORCED TO LAND NEW YORK. July 21 Charles H. Anglln, who left Belmont park, Long Island, with mail for Chicago early today, wrecked his airplane when forced to alight at Hellertown, Pa., according to information received here. Anglln was uninjured.
