Shortage Of Teachers h I ,

Felt In Local Schools "L

The personnel of the Richmond school faculty for next year Is not yet completed, said superintendent Bent ley, Tuesday morning. This Is due ta a general shortage of teachers, he said. The salary paid to Instructors Is on the average so much smaller than could be mads In some other occupation that few people are taking up the work. It Is pointed ouL Although the salaries paid In Richmond are as good as the average. Superlntendent Bentley is having a hard time securing teachers to complete the staffs of the schools. Learner, Back From France, Stops Here E. M. Learner, formerly secretary of the Richmond Y. M. C. A., who has been in Y. M. C. A. war work In France for several months, stopped off in Richmond Tuesday morning between trains, while on his way to Kokomo. Learner arrived In New York City from abroad a week ago last Saturday, and was met there by bl wife and children, who are accompanying him wesL Floor Made From New Wheat; Quality Is Fair, Local mills started grinding flour, from new wtteat Monday, and millers' believe that the flour will be up to standard. Although the wheat haa been of a lower grade than usual, tests show that the flour made Ironv it is in good shape. Ittle variation Is showing up ta tbsf receipts so tar and from reports there, will be none. Very few loads of nunH ber one wheat have been brought InJ the receipts rangelng to number four"! ' and fire. Most of the wheat haa been; testing number two and three on ac count of hollow grains. This waaf found to hare been due to a pest called the red louse, that haa been found In much of the straw. , Demand For Rooms Is j Growing At Y. JW C ij --------- Every effort Is being put forward! at the Y. M. C. A. to accommodates the Increasing demand for rooms. Extra beds are put In many of the rooms where the occupant Is willing and la some of the larger rooms three beda are being placed. At present applicants for rooms are turned away dallySugar Shortage Improbable This Year, Say Dealers Although the canning and jellymaking season has put an extra-heavy demand on the sugar supply of Richmond, local dealers do not anticipate any trouble In supplying the demands of the consumer. The drain of the supply has not been heavier than usual for the season, and from present indications dealers do not anticipate a shortage. Last year sugar was rationed to purchasers, but It Is improbable these measures will be resorted to again. Exportation of sugar has been stopped to give the refiners a chance to cover domestic markets, but there is no fear of a shortage this winter. Wyoming Man Is Named On International Body (By Associated Press) WASHINGTON. July 15. Former senators Clarence D. Clark, of Evanston, Wyo., was appaolnted a member of the inter-national joint commission to-day by President Wilson. He succeeds the late James A. Tawney, of Minnesota.
