LUTHERAN CHURCH PLANS TO OBSERVE 75TH ANNIVERSARY A history of St. John's Lutheran church will be prepared for the observance of the congregation's seventyfifth anniversary, on September 21. Rev. A. J. Teeger. of Dayton, pastor for more than 20 years, will write the history. At a meeting of the congregation Sunday afternoon the trustees were authorized to open the two cornerstones of the church building on South Seventh street and remove the articles placed there at the time of the laying of the stones. Information obtained from these, will be used. A copy of the Richmond Daily Independent, a Bible, a testament, Sunday school papers, a copy of the Luthtran Standard, the old church constitution, a history of the beginning of the church, old coins, ten cents in money, and the minutes of the eleventh edition of the southern district were found when the articles were removed. Some of these were placed there In 1846 when the church was built. Others were placed there in 1874 when the church was remodelled. The anniversary will be celebrated for two or three days. District No. 11 United wine morkers of America, in convention here Monday, defeated a resolution recommending that congress enact legislature permitting protests against the high cost of living and branded Eugene V. Debs as an agitator opposed to the

organizations. The convention previously had adopted a resolution asking the release of all political prisoners but when a resolution was presented today especially mentioning Debs, chairman John Hessler, of the resolutions committee. retorted that the commit
tee had refused to concur in the resolution on the grounds that no person should be singled out for release. Vice President Raney was in the, chair when the resolution was presented asking the convention to go on record In favor of congressional legislation permitting 2 percent, beer. On a viva voce vote Raney declared the resolution lost.

Green Uniforms To Be Issued In U. S. Army CAMP GRANT, 111., July 15. While no official announcement that khaki is to be discarded by the United States army has been made, a new uniform of sea green color will be Issued soon. It is reported here. There will be no shoulder insignia, the rank of each officer being indicated by braid on the sleeve. Cloth patches on the collar will show the branch of service. Broad leather belts will go with the new clothes. The historic blue of the American army, which officers wore upon dress occasions, has been abolished. Turnover collars will supplant the close fitting "chokers." West Alexandria, 0. Corporal Harry M. Brown, who has been serving on the Russian front, notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Brown that he has arrived in the States, and will be home soon. He was in Company F, 339th infantry.
Brown was abroad for a year, and was stationed for a short time In England before going to Russia. Mrs. Ned Cook of Pearl street has received word that her husband has landed In the States after ten months with the 113th M. O. R. shop overseas.

Postmaster Reports "C
R. R. In Good Shape The best mail boxes and roads of any out of the city were found by Postmaster C. B. Beck on Route "B." which the postmaster inspected Monday. However, some box approaches were inconvenient and a number of boxes were not regulation In type. In some cases boxes are nailed to telegraph or fence posts, and these boxes must come down and be placed on special poles well planted and steady, the postmaster warns. Broken pulls and handles on boxes on all the routes cause the carriers great inconvenience and loss of time.
ALLENBY GETS D. S. MEDAL
Virgil Appleton, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Appleton of South Ninth street, arrived in Richmond Saturday following twelve months' service with Company E. 22 Engineers in France. Appleton landed at Hoboken on July 4. He received his honorable discharge from Camp Sherman, O.
Word received from Private Norman Crump of the 113th Mobile Ordnance Repair shop, announces his arrival in this country. He was overseas for ten months.
Horace Neal has arrived in Richmond following several months of foreign service. Neal was stationed in France. Mr. and Mrs-. Herman Austerman have received word that their son, Joseph B. Austerman, has arrived at Camp Merritt, N. J. He was overseas for eleven months with the 22nd En-

Connersyille Service Men To Build Community House

Community building In which members of the Post may have their club rooms is discussed at the regular weekly meetings of the soldiers. The building may not be erected this year, as many of the service men have not yet returned.

Two Aviators Killed In Plunge At Dayton DAYTON. Ohio. July 15. Captain William F. Jones, a licensed pilot, was killed, and his mechanician. George D. Buzane, an automobile racer of national fame, was injured so seriously that he died at the McCord Field Hospital less than an hour after a new type of airplane they were testing fell 300 feet. Engine trouble had developed a few seconds after the aviators left the ground. Captain Jones was riding in the front seat of the plane, and the mechanician in the rear cockpit. The engine was "cutting out" to 6uch a degree that the plane was in a "stalling" position, but before this could be corrected it had dropped into a tail-spin, officers at the field explained. In another Instant the plane crashed to earth.
