FEDERATION WILL STAND FIRM FOR FAIR WHEAT PRICE

INDIANAPOLIS. July 14. According to General Secretary Taylor of the Indiana Federation of-Fanners, associations, the organizations will stand firm in the fight for what It considers a fair price from the millers and grain dealers for this year's wheat crop. He declared the "reasonable handling charge" for wheat as provided by the United States Grain Corporation was the big issue between the producers and the grain dealers and that the figures for operation costs as outlined by Secretary C, B. Riley of the Indiana Grain Dealers' association would not bear close inspection. "In a number of places where the costs of handling the wheat have run up to 16 cents on the bushel, according to the figures of Mr. Riley, fractions of cents have been added here and there, without corresponding allowances." said Mr. Taylor. "We are only looking for a square deal in the matter and have sent the overhead expense items as tabulated by the grain dealers to the federal government authorities. When we notified government officials that we were receiving only $2.11 for No. 1 wheat in Indianapolis, they wired us that something was wrong. Without comment, we forwarded to Philadelphia the so-called overhead expense given us upon our request by the .grain dealers' association and we are confident that a recheck of the figures will show that the farmers should be getting from 4 to 5 cents more on the bushel. "We have heard from one grain dealer at Delphi who says he can make 7 per cent on his investment In buying wheat if given a margin of 8 cents as his handling cost. Eight cents and 16 cents and a fraction make considerable difference. Unless an adjustment is made we expect to put the matter up to the government officials for final settlement as provided by law. The board of directors l of our federation will meet here on Tuesday and we will go deeper Into the matter at that time." Mrs. Myrtle Jackson Is Dead Near C enter ville CENTERVILLE, Ind., July 14. Mrs. Myrtle Jackson, 38 years old, wife of Garfield Jackson, a prominent farmer, died suddenly last evening at her home, three miles north of here. Mrs. Jackson has been ill since the birth of a child three weeks ago, but her condition was not thought to be serious. Besides her husband and infant, she is survived by five children. A sister, Miss Mary PInnick and brother, George Pinnick live near here and several other sisters and brothers survive. Funeral services prabably will be held Wednesday although no definite announcement has been made. Medical Corps Offers Opportunity, Says Wright An especial opportunity is offered young men who wish to enlist In the medical corps, according to Sergeant Wright of the Richmond recruiting station. A lack of men is felt at the general hospital near Fort Ben, and the sergeant can guarantee service there; he says. Service in the medical corps In peace times offers opportunity for practical work and instruction in all subjects useful In medicine, and military hospitals are equipped with excellent laboratories for the study of chemistry, bacteriology and pathology. Sergeant Wright asks any man who wants information on government insurance, to call at the recruiting station.
