Legislature is called to act on amendment Ratification of Suffrage Before Next Election is As-V-sured by Governors. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., June 25. ; Governor Goodrich announced last : bight that he "will call a special cession or the Legislature for either the last week of August or the first week of September, primarily to ratify the equal suffrage amendment. He stated also that 25 of the 25 governors whom he asked recently to join with him in calling special sessions to ratify the suffrage amendment have replied that they will call extra sessions. The result of the poll indicates that the amendment will be ratified before the opening of the next campaign. The following telegram was received from Mrs. Carrie Chapman Catt, president of the National American Woman's Suffrage association: "Ratification before presidential election is assured, provided those agreeing to special sessions will call them. Fifteen states have ratified or will ratify soon. Legislators are being polled oa petition to governors in 13 states. Limit Session to Week. "Three Legislatures meet in Janu ary, 1920, in segular session. Remain- j ing five states necessary to make a i total of 86 are New Hampshire, Ver-j mont, Connecticut, New Mexico and West Virginia. Special conditions in j each will be changed when their rat-1 ification becomes necessary to final victory, Governor Goodrich did not make public the namei of the governors promising to call special sessions. He hopes to limit the session in Indiana to one week. He issued the call after conferring with Chairman Wasmuth, of the Republican State Committee: It Is understood the governor will recommend that appropriations be inreased for several state institutions and that the conflicting sections of the county unit highway law be corrected. It is probable that opponents of the tax reform law will attempt to amend it in a number of important particulars. Representatives KImmell, Lafayette and Mendenhall, Hendricks county; Wayne, are candidates for Speaker of, the House. theater VASHINGTON Mabel Normand says that no onr; ever gets over the thrill of receiving mail. She admits that her hundreds of letters from the "fans" give her as much pleasure as the first one she ever received. As for a very thick envelope or a package, she tears it open with the eagerness of a child. Not even in her Goldwyn Piturea does mail come to her without bringing a suggestion of the pleasure found in real life. Mabel Xormand is amusingly ingenuous. Much of this ingenuousness and its comic expression is found in her new Goldwyn Picture, "When Doctors Disagree," which comes to the Washington Theatre the Jast time today, and an avalanche of mail crystalizes it. Mabel Normand is Millie Martin, a village ne'er-do-well, who comes in possession of a small sum of money j and invests it all in beauty creams 1 and lotions. She orders these by mail ; largely to enjoy receiving them at the : postoffice in the presence of the assembled villagers. She stands in line ahead of everybody else and is herself amazed when ; parcel after parcel is thrust through : the. window. She sails through th j crowd with her head in the air and j her arms laden with her precious bur- ! den. This is the bare action of the j Fcene. Its laughter-provoking qualif ties can only be appreciated when the j farce is seen. Nor are psychological I aspects lacking. 032 NNOUNCING e re-opening of my office aft6T a year's absence in the service abroad.

Who, that loves a detective story, is unfamiliar with that famous character created by Carolyn Wells, the American Sherlock Holmes, and hero of many of her novels Stone. He will be seen in the flesh In "Vicky Van," Paramount's screen version of one of Miss Wells' latest novels, in which beautiful Ethel Clayton is the star, and which will be shown at the Murrette theatre today. Ethel Clayton will be seen in the name part, a sort of dual role. She is in reality Ruth Schuyler, wife of a wealthy man old enough to be her father. With a legacy of her own, to escape the hateful monotony of her married life, she assumes a different name "Victoria Van Allen" and disguising herself, holds weekly bohemian parties in an adjoining house she has purchased. Her husband discovers the game and abuses her. He is later found dead there enters the mystery and the detective who solves the problem frees the young widow from suspicion. MURRETTE "The Unpardonable Sin," which is to be shown at the Murrette theatre July 2, 3, 4 and 5, will be of interest to local moving picture devotees for a number of reasons. The picture Is a screen adaptation of Major Rupert Hughes' book by the same name, which has had such a tremendous sale during the past two years, and has stirred up merry controversies in various parts of the country because of its fearless handling of a timely subject. The star of the photoplay version-is Blanche Sweet, who is making her "re-debut on the screen after A Coated Tongue ; What it Means A bad breath, coated tongue, bad. taste in the month, languor and debility, j s i g n 8 that the liver is out of order.
