NO DANGER OF ICE FAMINE, SAY DEALERS

There is no danger of an ice famine in Richmond, said representatives of the three factories here Monday, although ice shortage has been reported from other towns of the state. The famine in other towns is caused by dependence upon natural ice. which was very ecorce during the past winter. In Richmond only artificial ice is sold. It is estimated that an average of 80 to 85 tons of ice is manufactured daily in the three factories of the town. This with the amount of storage kept on handin the three plants makes an average of 1,000 tons on hand. B. B. Johnson of the Independent Ice and Fuel company said Monday that this plant would probably have had a surplus had it not .been for an ammonia leak which has weakened the machinery. Shipping congestion has delayed a necessary rod which Has been on the way here from St. Louis since June 9, Johnson said. Ho said that they had by drawing somewhat on the storage supply, been able to keep all their patrons supplied with ice. The warmer the weather the less the productive power of ice machinery, it is said, and during the last two weeks the demands for ice have been large, but the plants have produced enough to meet the demand.
