the courthouse. All girl In Wayne township between the ages of 10 and 18, are-invited to come to the office to Join the clubs. . The Instructors in the township will bo Miss Emma Bond, instructor of sewing in the high school, and Miss Bertha Larsh. Instructor of domestic science in the Garfield Junior high school. The clubs for the young girls will Hot only be Instructive but will furnish recreation. The courses to be given win be completed In the summer months. ... Girls Have Four Rules. The canning courses will consist of demonstrations of the cold pack process. There are four rules which ttV girls are required to adhere to, namely, attend the meetings, which probably will be every two weeks, do canning la the home, exhibit at the annual display, and keep a complete record ot date, labor, amount canned, cost, value of product and profit. In addition, each girl shall write a story of not less than 400 words covering points listed Jn the canning record book. Each contestant shall agree to exhibit at the annual show five quarts of fruit, and five quarts of vegetables, consisting of eight varieties. At the exhibit the awards are made on the following basis: Quality of exhibit, 45 per cent; quantity of canned products, 25 per cent; variety, 10 per cent; and record and story, 20 per cent. Tho sewing course is divided Into three classes and the girls will be put Into the class for which they are ready. If they have done sewing in school or have done soma at home they may be put into tbte second or third class. If they have had none at all they are placed in the first class. One class will be finished this summer. Record Books Kept. In the first year class patches, darning, one apron and the study of materials make up the course. The second year class consists of the making of a cap, a princess slirn overhand
patching and darning on woolen ma-!
lerials. In the third class dresses and tmdergarments are made. A record book is kept in this course also. In the bread-making course quick end yeast breads are made. This work can be completed this summer. Mis3 Hadley stated today that it Is not the idea to make this a difficult course. The meetings are supPosed to be "good time" meetings.
Tho girls in the township are urged'
to take an interest in the work which is a part of the Purdue University extension work. The young girls throughout the county are interested and canning, sewing and bread-making clubs are being organized.

PETROGRAD CAPTURE DENIED IN REPORT
(By Associated Press) COPENHAGEN, June 5 Persistent reports that Petrograd has been captured are "very premature" according to a statement from the official Esthonlan headquarters press bureau here. A report from Esthonlan headquarters on Tuesday says that vigorous Bolshevik counter attacks west and northwest of Gatzchina continue, but have been repulsed by the Esthonians. The battle Is still going on without decisive results. Nothing Is known at Esthonlan headquarters regarding the reported advance of Finnish troops against Petrograd from the north. West of Luga the northern corps of the Esthonian army Is engaged solely in repelling attacks. Southeast of Riga, Esthonian forces continue to advance toward Kreitzburg. according to the report.

Hoover, head of the allied relief association. The bread budget balances, but the surplus of the American crop of wheat and rye this year will be needed. Other figures gained from the survey made by the organization and various governments indicate that the sugar crop in Eastern Europe this year will be 65 per cent, of pre-war normal, the wheat and rye crop 77 per cent, and the vegetable harvest about

Depositions from officials of the Standard Oil company and the international Harvester company were among" those introduced today In the libel stilt of Henry Ford against the Chicago Tribune. Editorials which the plaintiff contends show pro-Germanism on the part of the Tribune also were read by Attorney William Lucking. The depositions were from Frederick David Asche who was a director of the Standard Oil company ol New Jersey at the time of publication of the alleged libelous editorial "headed "Ford is an Anarchist," and who since 1917 has been vice-president of the company; Milton M. Eames, assistant secretary of the company; Arthur F. Corwln, who was vice-president of the Penn.-Mex. Fuel company in 1915; President Harold F. McCormisk of the International Harvester company, who was vice-president of that corporation in 1916; and George A. Raniiey, secretary and treasurer of the company, and Mrs. Elinor Medill Patterson, part owner of the Tribune.

Austrians Surrender Town To JugoSlavs (By AsBoolated Press) COPENHAGEN, Wednesday, June 4 A despatch received here from Klagenfurt, capital of Carlnthia, Austria, quotes an official report which says that Volkermarkt, a town fifteen miles to the northeast has again been abandoned by the Austrian forces defending the town against Jugoslav troops which are invading Carlnthia. Tho retirement, It is said, was ordered so that the town might not be exposed to danger of destruction from the fire of the Jugo-Slavs.

June 5. -The American legion, recently organized by men of all branches of the war service, has officially recognised the yeomen as part of the nation's combatant forces by granting a charter for the organization in this city of Betsy Ross Post No. 1, the first feminine unit to be included in the legion. The post will be entirely composed of feminine naval reservists in the District of Columbia.

Minor, about 65 miles north of Smyrna, according to an official statement issued at Greek headquarters. A Turkish detachment of tro)3 made an attack on the Greeks at Aivall, but were repulsed, losing four men killed. The Greeks did not suffer any casualties. The Turks on retiring set fire to their barracks, the statement says.

Hume, who has served the National Missionary Council of India for 42 years and who arrived here today on his first furlough in eight years.
