Miller, Vivian Douglas, Jeannette Cradock and Kate Husted. - Half of the teachers of Union county have signified their intention to give up school teaching next year. Many are to be married. - The superintendent of schools, Charles Abernathy, stated that the schools in Union county have been continued in Union county under great difficulties because of the severe influenza epidemic in Union county. Beech Line, a resident! of this place, while driving a car over the railroad near here Saturday, was struck by an east bound pasesnger train and thrown into a ditch, suffering severe bruises and gashes on his face. The machine was not damaged. Mr. Vorhees of the Liberty bakery, will move into the home he recently purchased on Union street.

A rising vote was taken , of the congregations in the churches Sunday and the vote in favor of the ban was almost unanimous, it was reported. BOONVILLE John A. Knight, 50, Warrick county recorder, committed suicide by jumping into a well. He had been suffering from a nervous breakdown. He was a prominent southern Indiana Republican politician. HAMMOND The entire police department of East Chicago was called out to quell a street riot in which forty youths took part. Twenty were hurt and several arrests were made. NOBLESVILLE Smoking to excess and chewing tobacco are not grounds for divorce, ruled Judge Cloe, of the circuit court. Minnie Styvers failed to show anything against John Cloe's character, but she did show he smoked and chewed. The divorce was refused. INDIANAPOLIS Mrs. C. J. Walker, probably the most widely known colored woman in the United States, and a millionairess, is dead . at her New York home. Her main business activities were in this city.
