700 PRESENT AT LUTHERAN GROUP SESSIONS HERE

Young People of Dayton-Richmond Synod Hold Meeting

at Irmity Church.

Over 700 young people belonging to the Joint Synod of Onto attended the

annual group meeting of the DaytonRichmond group of Che 'Associated Lutheran Young People's Society of

Miami valley Sunday afternoon and

evening at the Trinity English Lutheran church. It la estimated that 600

were In attendance at the afternoon

meeting and 750 at the night meeting.

Supper was served m the basement of

the church.

The afternoon meeting opened with an organ number, "Song of Praise" (Sheldon) by Miss Edna Denier. The

scripture reading and prayer was giv-

Miss Edna Deuker played "Meditation" by Sturges. The question box was in charge of the Rev. O. E. Swlnehart of Farmersville, O. . Miss Marie Deuker, soprano, and Mrs. Horace Logan, whistler, gave a

duet, "Song of Confidence," by Briggs. The Rev. M. I Baum of Daytan had charge of the closing services. The organ postlude was "Festival March" (Read). Miss Deuker opened "the " evening meeting with "Offertory in D Minor" (Batiste). The scripture reading and prayer was in charge of Rev. A. L. Nlcklas of Richmond. The choir sang "Appear Thou Light Divine." by Morrison. ' " The address of the evening session was given -by Rev. R. E. Golladay, B.D., of Columbus, O. His subject was "Our Luther Leagues and the Future," in which his plea was for personal purity and personal efficiency. He was camp pastor for eight months at Camp Oglethorpe, Ga., and was able to see the results of social diseases among the young men of the country. Rev. Golladay discussed national legislation In eugenics in which he Is greatly interested. Meet at West Alexandria. Mrs. Roland Rosa, violin. Miss Marguerite Deuker. It was decided to use the collections, excluding the costs of the meeting, to buy books for the older girls' sitting room at the Wernle Orphans' Home. The annual mass meeting of the three groups of Miami Valley will be held at Dayton In the fall. The next annual meeting of the Richmond-Dayton group will be held at West Alexandria, O.

placed the same in a cage in his window. He also placed a young rat in the cage. The Bnake cornered the rat and threw its tall around Its body squeezing it to death, then swallowed it, all in about twenty minutes. The snake then relapsed into a state of coma.

Sheriff Davisson and Deputy Sheriff

Puckett received word that a number of men were drunk at a point three miles west of Winchester and that

their machine was in the ditch. They at once -went to the place -where they found William West and Oral Ludwick, both In a drunken condition.

The men were brought to the city and arraigned before Squire Stephens. Each pleaded guilty to intoxication and paid a fine of $1 and costs. The suit filed to take from Mrs. Henry Hall three of her children, and place them In the Orphan's home was tried Tuesday, In circuit court. Mrs. Hall Is fighting the case while the husband is endeavoring to have the children taken away from here. Witnesses testified that the character of Mrs. Hall was not good. Last week an affidavit was filed, by her husband, alleging statutory offenses and she filed an affidavit against him charging his with assault and battery. The township assessors of this county have compiled their assessments of the land in this county and have made their report to the county assessor,

James A. White. The assessment shows that 284,625 acres of land was

assessed at a value of $37,098,950, an average of $130 per acre. This assessment includes only real estate outside the cities and towns. It is thought that the city, town and personal property will make enough to bring the entire county to fifty million dollars, which if taxed to the limit would bring $750,000 taxes. White River township's assessment for real estate outside of Winchester is $6,111,270,
