COLUMBUS. O., May 15 State and county road work will be practically impossible for one reason or another in 70 counties of Ohio unless the Busbey-Fouts highway bill, with its provisions permitting tax levies for road purposes in excess of the Smith one per cent limitations, becomes law, declares the Ohio Good Roads Federation in a letter sent to Governor Cox and each member of the general assembly. In each of this number of counties, it is asserted, there are one or more taxing units that have reached the 15 mill limit, thereby preventing the county as a whole from making a levy to get state funds or to construct new county roads. ... ' The bill has passed both houses and now Is up for signing by Governor Cox, who haa indicated he may veto it. The direct state levy, ,during its five-year existence, it is pointed out. produced approximately $12,000,000 to which the counties added a similar sum. State aid in the past has averaged $24,000 to each county annually. By increasing the state levy from three-tenths to five-tenths of a mill, as proposed in the Busbey-Fouts bill, the state fund would be increased from $2,600,000 annually to 4,250,000, thereby making possible an average of $45,000 annually to each county. ;

By GRACE E. HADLEY Emergency Home Demonstration Agent. The correct height of working surfaces will save the housekeeper much in the way of muscular fatigue, for a low working surface means an uncomfortable position, backache and compressed lungs. All permanent working tools should be raised to the proper working level. The proper height of working surlaces as prepared by the division of Home Economics is as follows: Height of Height of Women Working Surface 4 feet 10 inches.... 27 inches 5 feet..... 28 inches 5 feet 5 inches.. 30 inches 5 feet 7 Inches. ......... .31 inches 5 feet 10 inches 33 inches Fireless cookers are now being made at small cost and used in hun
dreds of homes. The greatest advantage of the fireless cooker is that of economy in time, since the housekeeper may leave the food cooking without worry over the results, while she is engaged in other household duties or visiting with her friends. It is also a great iuel saver. A wheel tray will save much energy in carrying dishes to and from tho kitchen and dining room. If the housekeeper will buy cooking dishes of crockery and heat-proof glass the food can be served in the dish in which it is cooked, thus reducing the number of dishes to be washed. The magic mat woven of metal and yarn will clean the kettles -without scratch
ing them and will save many minutes
a day. Other labor-saving devices favorably mentioned by women who use them are gasoline or electric iron, built-in ironing board, bread-mixer, wire drain basket for dishes, high stool, vacuum cleaner (even when operated by hand) a well-stocked cleaning closet and the necessary cooking utensils. Only the woman who has labored with big, heavy carpets and has then changed to rugs can appreciate the
