'JUNIOR TEAMS START -OUTDOOR SPORTS MONDAY Playgrounds to be Ready for Use Next WeekBasketball Season Closed. The playgrounds at Tventy-Becond and A streets will be opened next Monday, If the weather permits, Lyman
I.yboult, director of athletics at the Junior high school, announced Friday. Outdoor sports will take the place of the basketball games that have been continually held since March at the Garfield Annex. Baseball, track work, tennis and other sports will be on the outdoor program from now on for the Junior high school boy and girl. Lyboult said Friday that some work would have to be done on the tennis courts before.they would be ready for use but the rest of the grounds could bo used now. The rest of this month a good part of the time will be spent in work on the track and field, lining up the track athletes for the interschool track and field meet which will be held sometime in May, probably near the middle of the month. The championship game between the two basketball leagues would not be played off unless the teams got
togetuor some rainy evening, me airector said. League Champa Decided. The league championship of the Small and Larges were decided Thursday night at the Garfield annex gym. The Lillies still holding a perfect record defeated the Marines 17 to 2, and won the championship of the Large boys' league. The Butler Ave somewhat upset the dope bucket when It finally .ousted the Yale aggregation, 6 to 2, In an overtime game. In the Large's game the Lillies had an easy time defeating the Marines. Sauter and Mattax were the stars of the game for the Winners, while Green and Fuller garnered the honors at the defensive positions. The first half ended with the Marine scoreless
and the Lillies eight to their credit. The next period the Marine bulldogs put up some fighting spirit as their name should call for but the Lillies presented too strong opposition for the losers to overcome. Babylon of the Marines shot the first and only field of the game made by the Marines. From that time on the Lillies played circles around the defeated crew. In the Small league, the scrap was anything but one-sided. Both teams were nervous and forgot all the basketball they knew. Fouls came thick and fast but the men pitching free throws were too nervous to register many tosses. Finally in the overtime end of the game the Butler team steadied and made the goals that won for It the championship title.
