'THREE-I STILL AFTER RICHMOND CLUB JN1INE-UP Local Baseball Men Asked to Send Representative to Chi

cago Meeting Sunday. The Three-I league has not yet given up the project of Including Richmond In Its loop, according to a telegram received from President Ryan of the Peoria club, Thursday evening, by E. E. Eggemeyer. Ryan telegraphed that if a Richmond representative would be on hands at the Chicago 'meeting next Sunday he would convince him that the Three-I circuit was the logical league to enter. Ryan sent messages to Elmer Eggemeyer of Richmond, Louis Heilbroner of Fort Wayne and Elmer Redelle of Springfield, asking all three cities to have representatives at the Sunday

meeting. Eggemeyer stated Friday that he would be unable to attend the meeting Sunday but that either Joe Hill or Clarence "Shorty" Jessup might attend the meeting to learn Ryan's proposition. Ryan plans to show the three representatives where the Three-I league is the best baseball organization ever operating in the middle west. Ryan's j plan la to have every club a fan-owned affair, financed at the start, and in- ' sures new attendance records. Want Two Eastern Cities At present, Ryan has six clubs lined up for the Three-I loop but has not given up hopes of making it an eightclub affair. For this reason both he and Mayor Bosse are planning to inaugurate a campaign to get two of the eastern cities to join the league. Bloomington, Peoria and Evansville have formed fan's associations and are going to make the circuit a certainty, he says. Only high class ball will be played and so he feels with

out a doubt that the Three-I circuit will succeed and proposes a longer circuit in order to bring in more cities. . The Richmond men interested Jn i baseball here have already turned j

aown me inree-i proposition on me grounds that It included too much mileage to consider entering, but Richmond men may hear Ryan's proposal Sunday as they recognize the need of league baseball in a town of this size.

DODGERS LOOK TO PITCHERS TO PUT THEM IN PENNANT RACE

Six star pitchers of Brooklyn team snapped during training session at Jacksonville, Fla. Left to right: Larry Cheney, Al Mamaux, Jeff Pfeffir, Rube Marquard. Leon Cadore and Burleigh Grimes.

The main strength of the Brooklyn team in the cominpr National league campaign, probably will lie in its pitching staff. The team, including champion slugger Zack Wheat, Jake Daubert

and Schraandt, all .300 hitters, battted at only a .250 gait last year, ranking fourth in the league. Daubert is gone, but Wilbur Robinson and the Dodger fans are banking on the hurlers which in

clude such veterans as Chaney, Marquard, Pfeffer and Al Mamaux and such youngsters as Leon Cadore and Burleigh Grimes two of the best bets in the league.

CARR OPTIMISTIC OVER LIMA CLUB

Miami Fails to Stage Game With Qaaker Baseball Nine OXFORD. '0.. April 4. Physical Director Al Brodbeck, of Miami university, announced today that he had been

unable to secure Earlham College off Richmond, Ind., to open the baseball j season with Miami on Saturday, April j 12. For some reason Earlham cannot ; come on that day. So the opening, game will be a very tame affair a eort of try-out contest between the old ; and new players. ;

D. C. Lees, a Mercer county, Pa., man. is saving for seed a peck of potatoes ho grew last year from a single Sfuber. I

Charles Carr of Indianapolis, who has become Interested in the old Central league proposition, stopped at Richmond hursday night enroute to Indianapolis from Lima, Ohio. Carr talked to Elmer Eggemeyer concerning the possibilities in the reorganization of the old Central loop and was optimistic in his belief that Lima would come in and make a six

club circuit possible. He said the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce had become interested in the project. The secretary, he said, is trying to get about twenty-five business men to back a club from that city which will make the league possible. No overtures will be made to Muncie as Lima is favorable to the organization.

As Loui3 Heilbroner has done nothing at Fort Wayne, men interested in the revamping of the old Central will go to Fort Wayne and see what can be done there next week. In case Fort Wayne factions do not get together on the league question, Muncie will be asked to come in as the sixth cy. Before either Evansville and Terre Haute can be asked to join the league, the organization of " the individual clubs must be brought to a greater extent of progress and organization. Elmer Redelle of Springfield, is also

of the opinion that Lima, Ohio, will

make the sixth city of the loop. Carr, on his way back from Lima, stopped at Dayton and talked with several baseball men there who were favorable to the revival of the old Central. Hamilton, baseball men here believed, is out of the. race. altogether, as fans of that town think it can put on as fast a game with its local talent. After the Fort Wayne situation has been gone over, a meeting of the prospective baseball men will have to be called and the organization completed. This month will be given over to making league ball a sure thing in Richmond.

The Second Thought Rug

Helen Newlywed took the $100 check she grot from an uncle for a wedding; present hot-foot to a cute little rug store on a side street. For a long time there had been a Kermanshah rug in the window of that cute little store "a bargain at $98.50" the tag said. The merchant thoughtfully explained to young Mrs. N. that this wonderfully low price was made possible because he had a cheap rent and never advertised. Happy in her bargain, the lady bought the rug without giving the matter a second thought. An evening or two later, her newly-wed husband said "Helen,

here's a rug advertised in the paper sounds like yours anyway, it's six-by-nine, the same size as yours price $85" so x next day the

young lady looked at the advertised rug and found it identical with her $98.50 "bargain." All of which happens to be true. Now-a-days Mrs. Newlywed though that's not the lady's name thinks twice and gives the advertisements in THE PALLADIUM at least a once-over before she buys a rug or anything else. Advertising is busine3s-news and is therefore an integral part of the NEWS-paper. The advertisements in THE PALLADIUM are always interesting reading-matter to the women or man who wants to make every dollar

its duty, always informative,
