II00S1ERS TO GO 4,000 MILES IN HOTEL ON TRUCK
Marion Families Means of Transportation Include All Modern Conveniences.
Touring in your own hotel is a new idea which Charles O. Barley, president of the Indiana 'Truck Corporation, of Marion, is responsible for. Barley and his wife, and Herry Goldtolt and his wife, this spring will take a 4,000-mile trip to California and back In a "hotel" built upon a twoton Indiana truck chassis, mounted upon pneumatic tires. Built into the chassis is a sleepingroom for five people, Including the driver. There Is a kitchen and complete cooking apparatus, a small living room, a hall twenty Inches wide between the sleeping compartments and a lighting system for lighting up at night, which furnishes 20 or 25 electric lights. The truck is also equipped with lavatory and toilet, tools, shovels, picks, a powerful search light for the -fever's seat, clothing chests, etc. Has a Refrigerator. Trie truck also has a refrigerator for preserving and keeping food, and it will hold a large quantity of ice. Water is also to be cooled by special device in the refrigerator. The sleeping compartments for each person are twenty-six Inches wire, with springs nnd hair mattress. The top of the ' truck is equipped with a canopy, like a regular army truck, and one side of
this canopy Is of sufficient length so
it can. be stretched to the ground,
three stakes put into it, and made in
to a regular tent There Is also a space provided in
the "hotel" for a motorcycle, for use
of the driver on special errands, taking him off the main line of travel.
The truck, in addition to being equip
ped with pneumatic tires, has shock absorbers and snubbers, and Barley states that without pneumatic tire equipment, such a trip would not be
possible. The standard wheel base of the truck has been lengthened to pro
vide for the equipmentTrips like the above are sure to come into vogue with people fond of
outdoor life. And it Is expected that
people making fishing tripe to far away points, camping trips and the like will, providing they have the means, acquire equipment like that built by Barley. Barley said, "We will undoubtedly, save the price of the truck several times over in the trip to California and back, through the saving of hotel bills and a dozen and one other items which will be eliminated by this means though we did not have the saving in mind when we started to plan the trip, but more the comfort and thorough enjoyment of outdoor life and freedom of movement which our "hotel on wheels' gives us. The staunchness and durability of our regular standard chassis makes It possible to take the tremendous load which we are imposing on it and successfully complete the trip. -We will touch the spots that are not ordinarily touched by the tourist becouse of inaccessibility, and we will go across the Great Desert of the west with the truck." To the best knowledge of all concerned, this is the first time that such an achievement has been attempted. Barley and his guests will start, according to present plans, early this spring and all are highly enthusiastic
over the idea. The "hotel" is practically completed at the preient time, j
KUPPIN ADVISES 0M PROPER TIRE SIZES
"When truck pneumatic tires first made their appearance on the market truck owners believed it was necessary to have big tires of the same size on all four wheels," says Joe Kuppin, of the Richmond Tire Service. "Tests, however," continued Kuppin, "have -demonstrated that the chief part of the truck's load falls on tha rear wheels and for that reason smaller tires may be used on the front wheels. "Tire experts suggest the following as the best sizes for front wheels of average build: 32x3 for trucks of
one ton and under; 34x4 fpr .trucks of one and one-half and two tons, and 36x6 for trucks from two and a half to Ave tons.. On - rear wheels the equipment should be: Three-quarter ton, 83x4; one ton, Zixihi; one and one-half tons to five tons, 38x7. Pneumatics Easier to Change "It does no harm of course to have tires on the front wheels as large as those on the rear, but buying the larger tires means an unnecessary investment. "K)ne feature of the use of truck pneumatic tires which commends them to truck drivers is the ease with
which tires may be changed. A skillful priver can take -off a damaged tire and put on a good one as quickly as in changing passenger car tires.
If the truck owner operates a fleet
of trucks the company suggests that it is not necessary to carry a spare tire on each truck. . The best practice, it Is urged, is to operate the trucks without spares, the spares being left inflated on extra rims in the
garage, so that in case of emergency tires can be sent to the particular truck which has tire trouble."

The premier insisted on continuing his peace conference activities after the shooting and his physicians were forced to order him to remain quiet for a few days until all danger from the bullet wounds in his neck and chest was past.
Owners Ask Service, Says Lexington Agent Automobile owners as well as automobile manufacturers are putting into practice, lessons learned during the war, according to Harry W. Chencweth, local Lexington distributor. "While builders of cars were taking advantage of developments in englnering brought forth .under the stress of the times, motorists were learning to value performance above all else in a car," declares Chenoweth. "This is evident from the fact that they demand consistent proof of the car's utility before buying. They investlgata performance first and look at lines afterward. The day of buying a car for appearance sake alone is past. In casting about for a new car they are looking for service above all else. "It has been a great source of satisfaction to me to be able to show
prospective buyers the new Lexington MinuteMan Six models, that embody performance, economy and grace of line. "The manner in which these models the Touring . Car and Tourabout have been received indicates that the Lexington engineers clearly anticipated the public's desires. , Both Include the latest Lexington engineering improvements: The Moore Multiple Exhause System, the oilless bushings, the one-finger emergency brake, the non-metallic universal joints and other advanced features."
CAUSE OF ENGINE MISS
A not infrequent cause' of spasmodic engine missing is either moisture or grease in the ignition distributor face. The current passes across the surface of the water or oil instead of pursuing its proper course. It is a good plan to give the distributor a cleansing at frequent intervals.
AUTO THIEF GIVES SECRETS TO OWHERS I am the auto thief. ! For a plugged nickel HI tell erery secret of my basin es and then I wttt go out "and get away with more car , than I know what to do withit is easier to steal cars in Indian than it is to pick apples. Orchard owners protect their fruit and auto owners don't. They think that they hare me on the run, but partners are too willing to help me out. Who are my partners? , They are the ownera of automobiles. They are all the owners who are : careless, and their name is legion.. They more earless they get the richer I get and I like 'em. - - If it was as . hard to buy machine keys that fit every auto lock as it is to buy a decent shot of hop or
a pinch of "snow" tney nugai me on the hip. But shucks, I can gov out and buy lock keys just like buying, postage stamps. - !' I can buy a fifteen cent key that win fit a $3,000 car. But 'most always Is don't have to spend the fifteen cents-; My "partners" leave their keys. t04 the locks downtown and then I get a $3,000 car for nothing, just by stepping in and driving off. Any nut who drives a car with the rear bumper hiding the rear license plate is going to have his car booked and hooked good. The cops don't sej the number and the getway Is easyJ Any number that has dents in it orj with some good cracks in the enamefl is a great help to me. That is a!
trade secret. ( When I have to stop and scratch) my head over a car then I don't steal it. But when a car sits up and begsj to be stolen, I am human and do the work. . v.

One to Five Ton Capacities
THE "Factor of Safety," as it is called by engineers strength in reserve is determined by putting a structure to tests more exacting than likely to be encountered in its contemplated usage. The Clydesdale is a truck built for American haulage requirements, which, by its record in world-wide service more comprehensive in the aggregate than any national usage alone could be has established a "Factor of Safety" unique in American motor truck building. . . ,
n
The superstandard construction of the Clydesdale, with its oversize and overstrength parts, and its excess power has made it famous for its draft work in thirty countries, from Iceland to Africa, in all climates, on all varieties of roads, with all sorts of drivers.
