AERO-EIGHT WON MANY WAR RACES

Automobile racing events of the last eighteen months of an impromptu nature, and the competition was largely between stock cars, says F. I. Stafford. Reports disclose that the Cole Aero-Eight, manufactured by the Cole Motor Car company of Indianapolis, was a most consistent winner. During the racing season In Cuba and South American countries the Cole Aero-Eight shattered one record after another. One of its most notable feats was the lowering of the dirt track record at Oriental Park, Havana. The Cole Aero-Eight clipped three seconda per lap off the record established by Bob Burman in his Blitzen-Benz a few years back. The feat was the more remarkable when because the Cole Aero-Eight was a stock car while that

KEEP COOL, IS ADVICE TO AMATEUR AUTOISTS

Novices in the art of motor car driving may find some useful hints from the following suggestions from the publication of one of the large motor car companies: Take your time during the first month keep cool and have a reason for everything you do, and above all, think, and you will get along all right. Know what each pedal of an automobile Is for, know what each button will do and do not loso your head. Then you will not get Into any trouble. Early morning Is the best time to learn tbi first stages of driving. Go slowly and keep to the right. Get in the habit of watching for vehicles both on the street you are driving and on the cross streets. After a short period, when you feel satisfied you have mastered the elementary things, drive later In the day when the trade is heavier. But be careful. This will accustom you to the crowds. During the learning period drive slowly. Do not speed. Most of the trouble comes from driving too tast. Find out all about your car and treat It with consideration.. Watch lubrication. You do not go without food for several days, nor should you allow your car to go without sufficient oil and water. Both are necessary for proper performance. Remember your car Is a piece of machinery. It is not infallible. Do not expect the impossible of it. Treat it with consideraton. And it will return uniform service to you.

Tire Cut Advice Is Given

By Ford Distributor !

"Every stone-chip, piece of glass, bit of iron or tin, switch point and the like inflicts cuts on the toughest tread when fairly hit by the tire. If even one of these is neglected, it may cost you thousands of tire miles," according to H. G. Coleman, of the WebbColeman company, Ford distributors. "A tread cut is very much like a wound on the sole of a runner's foot. If he runs with it, the pressure of his weight will extend the cut. Dirt and grit will be forced In and the wound will fester and spread infection until it Is thoroughly cleaned and properly dressed. Then proper steps must be taken to let nature fill it up. "In a tread cut the results of inat

tention are similar. The elastic tread

rubber is constantly spread by the chocks of the road, so that even a small cut in a new tire enlarges rapidly. . ' "At the same time, dirt, sand, 'and even small stones are forced into the wound until they go entirely through the tread and into the carcass. Water, of course, also enters, and rots and weakens the rubber. Eventually will come a bad blowout. "Inspect your tires daily. Have all

tread cuts taken care of promptly. I If repair labor is scarce in your local-! Ity, do the work yourself if the cuts ! are still fresh and not too large. Never try to repair an old cut without get-!

separation or fabric rotting has set in, repairing the cut without paying attention to these conditions is the very worst thing you can do."
