NEWS FROM EARLHAM COLLEGE
In the games of the girls basketball tournament Monday afternoon, the seniors were victorious over the sophomore team In a loosely played and one-sided affair which finally resulted in a score of 18-4. Susie Meek, one of the forwards of the senior team, was the star of the game, throwing eight field baskets. The dope was completely upset in the clash between the freshmen and junior teams. The freshmen lost their eye for the basket and as a result the juniors walked away with the game, much to the despair of the freshmen, to the tune of 20-8. At a meeting of the men in Bundy association room it was announced that Saturday night would be open night for Bundy Hall when the girls of the college would be given a chance to visit the men's rooms in Bundy, end they will also be entertained with a program given by the men of the dormitory. The regular faculty meeting was held last evening in the library. Dr. Homer L. Morris lead in the discussion on "The Effects of the War on Economics, Political Science, and Sociology." The recent meetings have been particularly devoted to the discussion of the effects of the war on education. A joint meeting of the faculty committee and the student committee on the state high school track meet to be held on Reid Field, May 24, was held yesterday. Members of the faculty committee are: Chairman, Prof. E. P. Trueblood; Coach Mowe, Miss ComstOCk. Dr. Morris and Paul Rrnwn The members of the student committee, who were appointed by the president of the Student Affairs associa tion are Chairman Leslie H. Meeks, Cyril Pitts, Ralph Nicholson, Susie Meek and Ellen Sherril. Arrange ments will be made in the near fntur' 1 for the care and entertainment of tht J two hundred visitlnc athlpfpq. ann every effort -will be put forward to maite ine meet a success. President Edwards gave an interesting address at chapel yesterday on "The Defects of Our Educational System as Revealed by the Recent War.'" IF HAIR IS TURNING GRAY, USE SAGE TEA Don't look oldl Try Grandmother's recipe to darken and beautify faded, streaked hair. That beautiful, even shade of dark, glossy hair can only be had by brewing a mixture of Sage Tea and Sulphur. Your hair is your charm. It makes or mars the face. When it fades, turns gray or streaked, Just an application or two of Sage and Sulphur enhances its appearance a hundredfold. Don't bother to prepare the mixture; you can get this famous old recipe improved by the addition of other ingredients at a small cost, all ready for use. It is called Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound. This can always be depended upon to bring back the natural color and lustre of your hair. Everybody uses "Wyeth's" Sage and Sulphur Compound now because it darkens so naturally and evenly that nobody can tell it has been applied. You simply dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through the hair, taking one small strand at a time; by morning the gray hair has disappeared, and after another appli cation it becomes beautifully dark and appears glossy and lustrous. The war showed that Cur educational system Vina ratloA r-nrr. t.A TlhVftiC&l gtanUUIUI iMICU M.V point as it may be clearly proved by the fact that 29 per cent or au men summoned to the call of the draft were absolutely unfit for military service. Considering the system from the industrial standpoint, he said it has again failed because today the breach between capital and labor is wider than it has ever been before, in spite of the fact that they united theia efforts in the production of war materials. Miss Elsie Marshall, instructor In domestic science, addressed the Science club last night in Parry Science Hall on "New Discoveries that Have Been Made In Foods In the Last Few Years." FINAL EFFORT TOWARD BIBLE GLASSES' J30AL PLANNED SUNDAY The executive committee at the T. M. C. A., Monday night determined to push the drive for 1,000 men in Richmond bible classes. "One thou ' sand men rain or shine next Sunday." is the slogan with which the drive will be stimulated. The showing made last Sunday stimulated interest in the campaign and the executive committee feels that the goal can be reached in one more Sunday. If the desired number Is cached, the goal will probably be exnded to Include a larger number of len. When the drive first started workers understood that though the goal was set for 1,000 men, every effort would be made to go ar abova that number. The campaign this week will b one of the most Intensive campaigns ever conducted by any group of churches or classes. Next Sunday each leader of the men's bible classes from the churches will report the attendance at each class to the Y. M. C. A. headquarters and from there a total attendance report of the men's bible classes will be telephoned to every church in the city participating in the campaign so that all church goers Sunday will know how great an Increase has been made. The campaign leaders mailed letters to all leaders of the men's bible classes Tuesday calling their attention to the nearness of the goal and the fact that the bible classes of Richmond will have 1,000 men In Sunday-school bible classes next Sunday. CANDIDACY OPPOSED MANAGUA, Nic, Monday, Mar. 24. General Emiliano Chamorro, president of Nicaraugua, probably will be a can-1-' didate to succeed himself at the coming election. His candidacy is encountering considerable opposition throughout the country, It is understood.
