PLANS UP AT CHICAGO CONFAB TODAY Each Central Club Must Draw 50,000 Admissions to Break Even. PEORIA, 111., March 19. A conference In Chicago Is carded for today between President Ryan of the Peoria club, and A. R. Tearney, temporary president of the new Middle Western league. President Ryan departed last night for the Windy City, and while hla trip Is along other business lines, said he would confer with Mr. Tearney regarding the baseball situation. Fort Wayne, with Louie Hellbroner and Bert Noblett endeavoring to frame n circuit of which Hellbroner can bo elected president, still on the fence, awaiting final word that Noblett has found It Impossible to organize his proposed circuit. If this situation at Fort Wayne Is allowed to keep minor league baseball out of the middle west this seaun. Hellbroner may find himself n ighty unpopular gentleman in these parts In years to come. It looks like a selfish motive pure and simple on the part of Hellbroner, although there may be facts beneath the surface which have not given tho real light on the situation. SOUTH BEND. Ind.. March 19. John Baumbach, secretary of the last baseball club to represent South Bend In the Central, has compiled the following figures on the cost of operating a club: , "Here are some flgurea of interest. The ordinary clubs in the Central league have traveled close to 6.000 miles season after season. ThU means that it has cost 1120 a season . to carry each man around the circuit. This Is figured A the rate of two cent a mile. Now, if you multiply this by ihe 14 or 15 men carried, you will find that the club fare will cost between $1,680 and $1,800. Added to this is the sleeper fare. Each club liaa from 20 to 30 sleeper Jumps in traveling the 6,000 miles and this means an added expense of from $30 to $50 for each Jump which, at the end of the season means about $750 more added to the expense of transportation, making a total transportation expense of about $2,500. "Most, minor league clubs have been traveling under a $2,250 to $2,500 salary limit for each month, and by mul tiplying four months and three weeks of playing which the schedules cover, you get another expense item of $10.000. I will not take the training expense Into consideration at this time, although every ball club must do some training, regardless of what class of , i'ill is being played. Other items also rome up, such as meetings, telegrams, players' fare to the training camp, etc. "Summing this up. a Central league nan uau, ill luc aei, an cacupc of $12,500 to lift In order to break even or In other words, It must draw 50,000 people to its park to split even. Here ire some additional figures. Fifty thousand general admissions would equal $12,500, but of this amount, the visiting club would get half, makinga total of $6,250 which would be the home club"s share. So. it Is evident thnt 25.000 of the general admission would have to be grandstand fans to have the club break even on travel snd salary expenses, not to mention the Incidentals." MUSKEGON. Mich.. March 19. Central league ball was enthusiastically promised support by the members snf the board of managers of the Muskegon Factory league who have declared that they would rather play factory ball In this city on the off days, with the organized team in the fieid as much as possible. TERRE HAUTE, Ind., March 19. Mord?ral " Three-Fingered " Brown will pitch for Terre Haute this year. It was announced that if Terre Haute lias league baseball this season. Brown, one of the greatest baseball players ever developed, will not mani.ge the club but will be seen in action on the mound. This fact alone should assure the success of baseball in Terre Haute this season. PROPOSE LEAGUE AMENDMENTS ' PARIS, March 19. Get the Habit of m Drinking Hot Water Before Breakfast Says we can't look or feel right with the system full of poisons. Millions of folks bathe internally now instead of loading their system with drugs. "What's an inside bath?" you say. Well, it is guaranteed to perform miracles if you could believe these hot water enthusiasts. There are vast numbers of men and women who, immediately upon arising in the morning, drink a glass of real hot water with a teaspoonful of limestone phosphate in it This is a very excellent health measure. It is intended to flush the stomach, liver, kidneys and the thirty feet of Intestines of the previous day's waste, sour bile and indigestible material left, over in the body which if not eliminated every day, become food for the millions of bacteria which infest the bowels, the quick result is poisons and toxins which are then absorbed into the blood causing headache, bilious attacks, foul breath, bad taste, colds, stomach trouble, kidney misery, sleeplessness, impure blood and all sorts of Bailments. People who feel good one day and badly the next," but who. simply cannot get feeling right are urged to obtain a quarter pound of limestone phosphate at the drug store. This will cost very little but is sufficient to make anyone a real crank on the subject of internal sanitation. Adv. i

BROWN This ought to be a great year for the rabbit. Now don't take this as a tip to hunters. The rabbit we refer to is "Rabbit" Maranville, diminutive shortstop of the Boston Braves. Walter was discharged from the navy a short time ago and is all set for the baseball season. In his conversation with the Brave owners he has stated that his naval training has kept him in perfect trim and that he is ready now to play ball. The Rabbit quit baseball last season to answer Uncle Sam's call before playing in very many games. Consequently he hasn't much of a record for the 1918 season. But two years ago he was one of the big stars of the National league. He was second only to Arthur Fletcher of the Giants as a fielder. He fielded 861 chances

Former Richmond High Boys Help Cop Pennant Harold Brown and Talbert Jessup, former Richmond high school and Earlham college basketball stars, besides helping win for LaCrosse normal school the Wisconsin conference basketball championship, were both given places as forwards on the allconference basketball team. Both Brown and Jessup played on the high school team in 1915-16, and the following year at Earlham college. The playing of both men during the tourney warranted their being picked as all-conference men. The team on which Brown and Jessup played, defeated the runner-up, Whitewater, at the conference by a score of 22 to 5. Both Brown and Jessup scored, making several field goals each, during the forty minutes of play. Brown was also free throw man for Lacrosse, and added four foul throws to his total of field goals made. Brown sent the oval in three times while Jessup dropped it through the hoops twice. The quality of the Lacrosse playing is expressed in the opinions of Kent and Levis, of Wisconsin university, who picked the all-conference team: First team, Brown f; Jessup f, Kru3e c; Rippe, g; Denny, g. All but the center was picked from the Lacrosse team. GREAT MEDICINE Made From Corn Silk Excites Favorable Comment . 22 OUT FIRST DAY OF QUAKER TRACK TRYOUT
Twenty-two Earlham track men answered the first call for the track and field men Tuesday night at the gymnasium. Coach Mowe instructed the men on the fundamentals of the different track events. Prospects or a good track team from Earlham college this year are encouraging, and Coach Mowe expects to cop some of the honors before the reason is over. Six monogram track men and others reported Tuesday night and much material is thought to be available in the school. Another meeting of track artists has been set for Thursday. As the weather does not permit taking up track work on Reid field, Coach Mowe will specialize" on the weight men in the gmy and condition the men on dashes and long runs by continuing the cross-country tests. Men who are trying out for weight events this year are Johnson, Larsch, Beasley, Carey and Harris. Johnson and Larsch are probably the best men reporting for the hammer throw and Ehot put, while Carey will handle the discus throwing for the team. Both Johnson and Larsch have hurled the shot beyond the forty-foot mark. Raiford Best Vaulter For pole vault, Raiford heads the list, with Glass, Mills and Huff trying out for that event. These men will also enter, the high and broad jump. . J. K. Hoerner is the logical man In the hurdles. Huff of Fountain City, Lawler, Mills, Larsch, Smith, Davis.
