Richmond high school basketball
fans are Again doping Richmond to;
win the district basketball tourney held at the Coliseum Friday and Saturday. Unless one of the unknown basketball teams hailing from little towns north of Richmond spring a "dark horse" this year, Coach Eckel's proteges should have easy sailing, is the belief of the fans. Richmond will wade through four games in the tourney. Friday morning at 10 o'clock the Richmond High nchno1 hnHkthnl1ra will line uo
against the Farmland crew,- the sec-1
ond game on the spctlonal tourney bill and the first game for Richmond. This game is thought to be an easy victory for the fast Richmond five. Should Defeat Hagerstown If Hagerstown defeats its opponent, Green township team, Friday morning
at 9 o'clock, then the Richmond High
is summed down to these two schools while the other game is somewhat doubtful. If Liberty defeats Ridgeville earlier in the tourney, then Liberty will participate in the semi-finals. Fountain City and Brookville are both going in for the right to pUy in the semi-finals. - What Brookville will do in this tourney Js in the doubtful list. - ' The last game on the bill Saturday night at 8 o'clock, should be between Richmond high school team and the Liberty basketball five. The chief stumbling blocks In the way of the Red and White basketball team are Connersville and- Liberty. Richmond,
to represent this district in the state, must defeat both of these teams Saturday. Coach Eckel Is confident that his men will come through with flying colors and go to Purdue to play in the state basketball tourney. The reasons why Eckel is picking his team as an easy winner of the tourney are that the high school team is used to playing on the large Coliseum floor, while other teams have only had a little practice there, and have been playing on smaller floors all season. The Richmond high school basket-bailers have the stamina and endurance to carry them . through, against their heavier and Blower opponents. Have Good Material. Coach Eckel has had good material from which to build a strong filve this year. Van Allen and Stegman, the leading forwards of the team, were on the regular team last year and both are playing a good game this year. They are backed by another regular of last year's team, Clem Price, the heaviest man on the teah, who played at back guard both seasons. This year Eversman a likely man, has come up to standard and is working the floor guard position well. At the center position, Dollins, the tipoff man is playing stellar basketball and though too short to gain the tipoff against some of his taller opponents, he can handle the situation once the ball gets Into action. j The Richmond high school officials are planning to make this one of ths best tourneys ever held here. Every high school pupil has been asked to
do his or her part and all are work-! ing to that end. The boys an girls: are holding "pep" meetings every day preparing to give the opposing teams a noisy reception. ' ' New yells and songs are being practiced every day by both boys and girls, and all kinds of noisy instruments will be heard at the tourney but the , noise will be organized and used at suitable times. If the weather permits the high . school student body will form in a ' parade as planned and march to the,
Coliseum where seats will be held for the tourney. . According to N. C. .Heironimus ot Garfield school all Garfield students having tickets to the tourney will b excused from school at 8 .'30 o'clock Friday morning by presenting theur tickets at general assembly hour. WThether the entire school will be closed for the day depends on the number of Garfield students attending the tournament, he said.
