. m nan.
WASHINGTON, March 6. Senators
who are opposing the League of Na
f Hons were disposed today to .scoff at
i the president's assertion that the sentiment of the American people is "overwhelmingly" behind him in his
, determination to put through the or-
- gamzauon 01 tne league. 1 , By way of reply the senators dl- ' rected attention to the Increasing I number of letters they are receiving , from voters in all sections of .the coun- ; try expressing condemnation of the league plan. ', Senator Lodge, Republican leader, I declared that the letters received by ; him are In the proportion of 9 against ; the league to 1 for it Senator Oronna of North Dakota, made' a statement to the same effect. . His mail, he said, Is "overwhelmingly" against the league, ; 6ay Farmers Oppose It. - Senator Poindexter, of Washington, ' declared that if the president carries ' out his announced intention of "telling ' the people on the other eide of the water that an overwhelming majority . of the American people Is In favor of , the League of Nations," he will mis- ; lead Europe. : . Senator Gore of Oklahoma, said the ' farmers of his state are against the league, while many of the residents ; of the towns appear to be for it. Senator Sherman of Illinois, charac : terlzed the president's New York speech as an "impassioned invocation." "How the president figures he can ' have the league ratified," the senator added. "In view of the fact that 50 senators are pledged against it is more than I can understand, although It must be remembered that the president never was a professor of mathematics." 'About the only thing the New York 'speech accomplished," Senator Sherman continued, "was to crowd William Howard Taft off the first page. The first thing we know these two dromios will be getting Jealous of
each other."

ASSERTS RHEUMATIC IMPURITIES CAN'T - STAY IN BODY o When My Prescription Goes in. Rheumatism Goes Out Along with All Poisonous Uric Acid, Says Discoverer James H. Allen Tcause he was crippled with tcrrlblo rheumatism and unRble to work. and because doctors failed to help him, ;llr, 'James II. Allen of llochester de"elded to' help himself. Terslstent study, ceaseless patience and frequent experiments convinced lilm that before anyone could be free from rheumatism the poisons and Impurities often called uric acid deposits, must be dissolved In the Joints, ligaments and muscles and expelled from the system. Tt took some yeara to fret this Idea Into the form of a prescription, but perseverance finally conquered and In a very short period every pain and . twinge and trace of rheumatism was forced to flee and Mr. Allen turned himself from a rheumatic wreck into a strong, healthy, robust man. So pleased was ho with his success that he named this wonderful medicine i Allenrhu. Many others cursed with the agony of rheumatism tried It with : results that were almost magical. Kequests for Allenrhu became so numerous that a decision was reached ' to let sufferers know of the discovery through the newspapers and now druggists throughout the country dispense the Allenrhu prescription, or can get t for you on short notice. ULLMAN RESIGNS AS SECRETARY OF COMMERCIAL CLUR
Carl W. TJllman, secretary of the Richmond Commercial club, has handed in his resignation to ' President Howard A. Dill. Mr. TJllman has accepted a position with the Dollar Savings and Trust company and First National Bank in Youngstown, Ohio. He will serve the two organizations which are combined, as an associate trust officer. It is not known just when he will leave Richmond. Action upon his resignation will be taken Friday at the meeting of the board of directors of the club. Whether or not Mr. TJllman goes immediately to his new position or remains until a new secretary can be found will lay entirely with the board of directors. It is understood that there are several Richmond candidates for the position. If one of these should be chosen, Mr. TJllman would probably go soon. If the club should " desire to wait and obtain a trained man, it would probably be several weeks. Mr. TJllman said Thursday that he had known for several days he was going to leave Richmond, which he does with some regret. He praised Howard Dill, president of the club, and said that he had never worked
under a president who gave so freely of his time and energy. Before coming to Richmond, Mr. TJllman had been secretary of the Chamber of Commerce at Riverside, Cal. Previous to that he had been with the Chamber of Comerce at Salem, Ohio.

If you have catarrh, catarrhal deafness or head noises caused by catarrh, or if phlegm drops in your throat and
jhas caused catarrh of the stomach or ! bowels you will be glad to know that
; these distressing symptoms may be
entirely overcome in many instances by the following treatment which you can easily prepare in your own home at little cost. Secure from your druggist 1 ounce of Parmint (Double Strength). Take this home and add to it M pint of hot water and a little granulated sugar; stir.until dissolved. Take one tablespoonful four times a day. An improvement is sometimes noted after the first day's treatment. Breathing should become easy, while the distressing head noises, headaches, dullness, cloudy thinking, etc., should gradually disappear under the tonic action of the treatment.- Loss of smell, taste, defective hearing, and mucous dropping in the back of the throat are other symptoms which suggest the presence of catarrh ,and wHich may often be overcome by this efficacious treatment. It is said that nearly ninety per cent of all car troubles are caused by catarrh and there must, therefore, be many people whose hearing may be restored by this simple, harmless, home treatment. Adv.

Who Benefits by High Prices?
You feel that retail meat prices are too high. ; Your retailer says he has to pay higher prices to the packers. Swift & Company prove that out of every dollar the retailer pays to the packers for meat, 2 cents is for packers' profit, 13 cents is for operating expenses, and 85 cents goes to 'the stock raiser; and that the prices of live stock and meat move up and down together. The live-stock raiser points to rising costs of raising live stock. Labor reminds us that higher wages must go hand in hand with the new cost of living. , No one, apparently, is responsible. No one, apparently, is benefited by higher prices and higher income. We are all living on a high-priced scale. One trouble is, that the number of dollars has multiplied faster than the quantity of goods, so that each dollar buys less than formerly.
