PAGE ELEVEN Nation-Wide Revival of Automobile Interest is Predicted For the Coming Season
THE RICHMOND PALLADIUM AND SUN-TELEGRAM SATURDAY, FEB. 15, 1919.
CONG SEASON TO DE GREATEST
All indication point to the coming season as being tbe greatest automobile touring year since tbe advent of the motor vehicle made It poslsble to travel tor pleasure and healthful recreation to the picturesque sections of our country, Nothing, perhaps, lias done so much to stimulate a real love for the country and to broaden the education of thousands of persons into America's historic and scenic localities as the automobile. The reasonable price at which serviceable cars can be bought, has been another stimulus to healthful contry outings, and the fact that nearly 6,000,000 atomoblles are now in use in the United States is a convincing object lesson. Another marked benefit to the country and which has directly contributed to greater touring possibilities is the impetus that the automobile has given to good roads. The automobile and good roads. Tbe automobile and good roads are so closely associated that one canhardly exist without the other, and nn of the srreat lessons of the
war now arousing keen interest in all yp&rts of the country Is the demand for
well improved inrougn mgnways. The wider use of the motor vehicle for commercial transportation has brought this need of good roads out in sharper relief than ever before, and a new era of road building seems to be dawning for the country. During the war period many of the good road areas suffered severely, but these conditions are now being readjusted. "Trucks On Farm" Is Title of Booklet "Profitable Farm Hauling with Motor Trucks," is the businesslike . title of an addition to motor truck literature Issued by the, Goodyear Tire and Rubber company. From the foreword: "The ability to carry heavy loads across rolling fields, regardless of roads and seasons; to quickly transport farm products to market over teandy or muddy or snowy roads; to move live stock to shipping r points with a saving of shrinkage in weight; to" carry garden produce, fruits and other crushable materials to destination quickly; to save time and labor in bringing closer to the farms all of this is what makes a motor truck a practical and profitable farm tool."

Farm Bureaus Planning to Form National ' Organization
By P. Q. HOLDEN. A NATIONAL organization of farm bureaus Is probable as the result of n convention to be held In Ithaca, N. T.t February 12 and 13. Already the county farm bureaus of Iowa and other central states have formed district and state organizations and delegates from a score or more of states will attend the Ithaca convention. The result promises to be an organization that will be free of politics, of real service to both the farmers and the public an organization that will enable farmers to thoroughly co-operate in solving their farm problems and to transact their business affairs in a business-like manner. The object and purpose of the organization will be to safeguard and advance the farming interests of the ration. It will give special attention to marketing problems, educational work and the economic and social welfare of the farm home. Jiuch matters as the price of beef,
- porfc, wheat and other farm products
will be handled In a manner that will be of benefit to both producer and consumer. The organization stands for good roads, better schools and better homes, and will co-operate with all other constructive agencies interested In the Improvement of farming conditions. Every county farm bureau has the tisual officers and committees and 1ms also a county agricultural agent whose salary Is paid Jointly from county funds and from funds provided for by the Smith-Lever bill. The balance of the money necessary to finance the farm bureau movement Is provided for by annual membership dues of 95 and funds received from the county. Ten pef cent of the membership fees will be used to finance the state and national organizations. Iowa alone has 40,000 farmers enrolled In county farm bureaus and the membership Is rapidly Increasing Under wise and patriotic leadership, the national organization work-. Ins In co-operation with the various state and district organizations, should be able to. bring about many needed reforms which will mean much to the agricultural interests of the country -, ,

Chenoweth Points Out Advantage of Buick Utility, as expressed in' the various Buick Valve-in-Head models for nine-teen-nineteen, is a composite thing, made up of those elements which may be considered vital factors in the serviceability of .a motor : car" said Ira Chenoweth, Saturday. "This utility has been arrived at through the experience of nearly twenty years, during which time the Buick course has been charterised by unwavering fidelity to accepted engineering ideals, and constructive advancement and elimination. "The absence of radical departures In manufacture and design has made possible the up-building of the Buick car as a thoroughly consistent whole. "Convenience has been developed side by side with efficiency.. Comfort has increased in the same ratio as strength and long wearing qalitles. New and better body types have been decised. . v "Always Buick cars have been developed, not re-designed. And for 1919 they reach the highest pinnacle in this development. Each model has a certain scope, a particular range of usefulness. Enough models have been provided in the complete Buick line to enable any purchaser to select a Buick car that is exactly equipped to serve blm to the utmost limit of his demands for utility.

Race Revival Plans For Coming Season With scores of noted American and foreign drivers released from war work, a great revival of automobile racing is predicted for this summer. European builders are already planning to re-enter the American market upon which they have lost their hold during the past four years because of the necessity of devoting their entire attention to war work at home. French and English builders are known to have completed already some speed creations especially for a camDaisn on American tracks. Few
American manufactures, so far, have ' shown any interest in a possible re-1 vival of racing, feeling perhaps that j their entire attention for some time;
will be fully occupied in supplying the public demand for more cars. It is possible that some of the cars which have been contenders in the past will be overhauled and entered by private individuals while tbe speedways may campaign cars themselves. But it is certain that American manufacturers will not be represented to any great extent. The Hudson company, whose Super Sixes created such a sensation in 1916 and 1917, setting new records at Chicago, Cincinnati, Omaha, Tacoma, and Minneapolis, is known to believe that it has accomplished all it set out to do when it proved the endurance of its cars.

Tests of Tires Made In Battles in Africa
It was not only on the battle fields of Europe that United States tires proved their - value. During those tense months when the eyes of all the world were centered on the gigantic struggle in Europe, few persons gave much attention to the campaign waged by the issolated British force to break the Kaiser's Influence in Africa. Northern Mozambique, the area in which" operations proceeded , for more than seven months,, has an area of about 15,000 square miles. It was in this work of rushing supplies to the British fighters that United States tires made a record which has endeared them to the . transport officers, upon whose shoulders fell the responsibility of furnishing supplies to the British fighters. ,

oiar i&nfflck standing idle ? IS IT held up through breakdowns accidents or at the loading platform? Lost time increases your haulage costs. The greatest obstacle in the way of showing large savings on motor truck haulage is delay. To keep the truck moving as steadily as the hands of the clock is the great object towards which every motor
truck owner snouia worK.
Delays come from two scources from the truck itself, and from imperfect operating systems and routing methods. In purchasing a Clydesdale Truck you eliminate both of these causes of lost operating time. You get a truck built with the great strength and durability in every part to enable it to operate months at a time without seeing the inside of a repair shop or service station. You can depend on it that your Clydesdale will cause no delays in operating time. Of equal importance is the
service which we give you with the truck. We believe that motor truck service should go beyond the mere replacement and repair of parts. Our kind of service means helping you to eliminate delays in the operation of your truckimproving your methods of handling it, helping you with your routing problems cutting out every moment of unnecessary idle standing time. The Clydesdale Truckwill keep moving if you give it a fair chance. We will show you how to give it the chance.

ROYAL IS NON-8KIO.
One feature of the Royal Cord which appeals to the every-day driver is that it. has a. tread which is just as good for driving as for non-skid purposes. This makes is possible to have a uniform tire on all four wheels and makes it unnecessary to carry two different kinds of spares in weather when nonsMd tires are desirable. The enormous increase in sales of Royal Cords to all classes of car owners Indicates to represents true tire economy because of superior mileage. '
FIRESTONE ELARSES BOOT MID SHOE FLAIIT
The footwear sales business of the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, of Akron, Ohio, is rapidly Increasing. Despite Its comparative youth, I this branch of production, which was started a year and a half ago, has alredy ttained major proportions. Tbe selling force has recently been augmented by the acquisition of fourteen new jmen. In their interests a convention was held during the weeks of December 30 and January 6, the principal feature of which was a training school in which every man was thoroughly grounded in the principles and policies of his work. The first selling force as constituted in the fall of 1917 has been almost quadrupled. - x QUEBEC'S CARS.
