Goldwyn Picture, which comes to the Washington Theater Wednesday and Thursday, even more laughter-compelling than the previous comedy success, "Peck's Bad Girl," Without a peer as a screen funmaker, Miss Normand found in "A Perfect 36" greater .opportunities for her sparkling artistry than in any other play she has previously had. The play offers the Goldwyn staj four different ways in which to giva ' of her comic self. - For a time she Is Mabel, a maid of all work at a boarding house. Full of pranks, she doesn't last long at that Job. Then a kind friend engages her as a traveling apieaeriri And Mabel's attempts
at selling are even more ludricous than her work among pots and pans at
the boarding house. MaDei iorgeis business for a time and becomes a div- ' ing girl. And It is here that the premier comedienne gets in her funniest bits while looking her prettiest In, a one-piece bathing suit. There is a moment or two of seri- - ousness for Mabel at the beach when a constable has the effrontery to accuse her of being a notorious Jewel robber from the big city. Right there things begin to happen to that poor, misguided minion of the law, , most side-splitting of which is chasing the nymph a mile along the beach while crowds stand by howling with glee. Here's a surprising and fascinating story. It is "Mandarin's Gold," the latest World Picture, starring Kitty Gordon, and It shows this famous star in one of the most striking roles she has ever assumed.. The Washington theater has secured thia picture and will show it on Sunday. "Mandarin's Gold" is so full of thrilla and surprises that it would spoil It for you to tell you , the whole story here, but suffice to say that It tells the story of Betty Cardon, a voung society woman, who plays i.rld and Rambles until she flnd3 herself In great need of money. The opportunity of getting the money she needs is presented to her In a surprising manner, and the things that occur as the result of this situation go to make one of the most enthralling productions of the season. "Eye for Eye," a screen drama of intense and colorful life of the Far East, in which the supreme actress. Nazirnova, is seen in the fiery role of Hassouna, a young and beautiful Arab girl, will be the feature at the Washington theater on Monday and Tuesday for an indefinite engagement. On of the many unusual features which this picture contains Is the real circus which was assembled by Director Capellani. All the phases of circus life will be seen by the audience not only of the ring where the performers are at work, but that also of their private life and in the travelling wagons in which they move from town to town. All the acts which will appear on the screen are known to circus goers " of America and were engaged to perform in their regular manner for the benefit ot the camera. "The Better Half," Alice Brady's latest Select Picture, will be shown at
the Washlngtan tneater on r rigay aim Saturday. It is a story of twin sisters, adapted for the screen by Louis Sherwin from Miriam Michelson's novel, "Michael Thwaite's Wife." Alice Brady is seen as both Louise and Trixie, twin sisters who are as different below the surface as it Is possible for sisters to be. Michael Thwaite, a cousin by adoption, goes away to become a physician, and upon his graduation marries Trixie, although in early life Trixie had hated him while he sister Louise loved him. After the wedding Louise enters a hospital to become a nurse, while Trixie continues her butterfly ways. Finally liendrick Thurston, a social libertine and idler, lures. Trixie to his rooms for a late super. Michael learns of ner caprice and attempts to scold his
wife, but Trixie packs her bags and
hurries to the hospital to ten lxroise
that she Is going away witn Tnursion. After t-rklne th matter over. Lou
ise begs her not to go and Trixie
promises to return to Micnaei in me mnrninff. Following- events find Mich
ael a patient in the same hospital where Louise is working, while Trixie has gone to Europe with Thurston. An operation Is necessary In order to bring back. Michael's sight, and through the .dark days that follow Louise takes the place of Trixie, although Michael thinks it is Trixie who is nursing him. At last Trixie tires of Thurcton and comes back, but when she learns that Louise loves Michael she kills herself. MURRAY. Fuel, administrations have no terror for the pneumonia-defying quartette of "Flo-Flo" which; carries wardrobe trunks of knitting bag capacity and is to be seen on the stage of the Murray, theater when John Cort's musical comedy success shows here tonight FloFlo's" recent home was the stage of the Cort Theater, New York, where it has enjoyed a run covering all last season. Lines which sparkle lingerie from the Paris shops, songs that you can't keep from humming, scenery which is gorgeous and satisfying to the eye, a "perfect 36" chorus and eccentric dancing which even Broadway could not resist are said to be only a few of "Flo-Flo" attractions. Mr. Cort has included In his cast Ivy Scott, who will be best' remembered as the prima donna of Henry
. Savage's "Merry Widow" and "Girl of the Golden West," Jere Delaney.j
Ja Fried, Mildred Beverly, Augustus Buell, Grace Renard, Burns and Lynn, and others of Importance and the "Perfgect Thirty-six" chorus. A rare treat is promised in the special "FloFlo" orchestra of soloists. .
Louis Barclay, Edward ' Cecil and Luclle Furness are among the talented performers who have been engaged to support Priscllla Dean in her latest Universal Special attraction, "The Wildcat of Paris," which comes to the Murray theatre on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. v Do you like a sex story with human appeal? If you do, come and see this one with Gladys Brockwell as the woman with a past who strives to live it down, and finds it coming back to haunt her when she hopes to find happiness in the love of another man. The tiny hands of her baby girl are the means of disclosing to her husband the shadow of her life, but being a broadminded man, and in love with his wife, he proceeds to forget and forgive, and all ends happily for all perrons concerned. It Is an old tale, but told with new twists, and plenty of human touches. It will renew your belief in the charity of mankind. At Murray theatre Wednesday and Thursday."" During the filming of "The Two Brides." the new Paramount photoplay starring Llna Cavalieri, the. famous operatic star, who is widely known as "the most beautiful woman in Eu- , (Continued on Page Four)
